AFL stars Steven May, Tom Lynch and Dion Prestia and have been caught up in a late-night fracas at Sorrento which led to two men needing hospital treatment.

The premiership players were among a group out for Boxing Day at the Mornington Peninsula holiday hotspot which was harassed and attacked at about 2am near the Continental Hotel.

The Herald Sun has been told one aggressor took a swing outside the venue, causing the group to retreat along Point Nepean Rd.

Football sources confirmed on Monday that the AFL trio had been among a group which had been caught up in friction generated by other parties.

But sources close to the three players insisted they were not responsible for the injuries to the two men.

Melbourne Football Club, who May plays for, declined to comment.

Latest reports have Prestia also suffering a soft tissue injury on his way to the bar to buy a round.

The “story” is that several AFL players were present at a hotel when a fight broke out at 2am between patrons (who weren’t the players themselves). Mental.

Gotta tick off the "nothing good happens after 2am" quota for all the talking heads too. Every single footballer should be tucked into bed and not putting themselves into a position where they could get into trouble /s

Yobbos, in groups, identifying sportsman; the latter easy targets if outnumbered. Awarenesses need to be tightened and respected to bypass compromise.

I reckon they had to squeeze the article in to ensure it qualified for the 2024 Pulitzer Prize.

Apart from going into Steven May’s background including his 2020 altercation with Jake Melksham at the Entrecote restaurant and his 2013 off-season clash with Campbell Brown outside a Los Angeles nightclub, the reporters finished with this classic zinger that should install them among the giants of investigative journalism -

“Prestia appeared to be enjoying some down time on the Mornington Peninsula over the weekend, lapping up the sun at Eldridge Estate, a popular Red Hill winery. He posted a photo of wine glasses and a cheese board overlooking the vineyards on his Instagram story on Sunday.”

It’s a well known fact that many of the Prestia family were originally Melbourne supporters so the reference to wine and a cheese board comes as no surprise whatsoever.

Could probably also tick off the "nothing good happens at the Sorrento Hotel" for MFC players! (except crappy media stories).

It had to be may. Look he didn't do anything wrong, but we don't need to be reading about this. Go home earlier Steven & be with your newborn daughter.

Jokes, right?

Maysie has every right to be out with friends when he’s “off-duty” whether he has a newborn or not.

This wouldn’t have been reported only well-known AFL footballers were present.

Can’t imagine how many times drunk !d!otz see footballers out in public and decide to give them grief. On this occasion a couple of people were taken to hospital, it had nothing to do with Maysie and Prestia. But because they were in the vicinity… huge news! 🙄

This is what journos call the double no scoop. Day one: misleading headline for click bait; inconsequential article. Day 2: clarification, but preferably with misleading headline for more clickbait. It sells newspapers. Sad but true.

Two weeks ago Mr Goodwin was at the Sorrento hotel on a Saturday arvo. My son’s friend Steve was there and sent him a selfie of Goody and Steve.
Unfortunately there were no journalists there to report on coach and fan enjoying a friendly, sober time!

Dont worry Tom can still report that Goody met Steve and upset May who was annoyed that selfies were being taken without his agreement. He wanted a trade. May contacted Richmond seeking a trade but when Prestia turned up and found Trac, Clarry and Viney were not there ,the whole transfer arrangement that was supposed to be conducted was called off.  Steve was unaware of this and has not agreed to release it to May so the transfer deal may still go ahead. Expect Melbourne to conduct a full club evaluation including castigating its supporter base for approaching Goody in an unsolicited transfer scheme. Dingo will be appointed interim supporter engagement officer in what is seen as another embarrassing incident recognising the fundemntal failures of Melbourne. Trac Clarry and Viney will no longer train and play for this train wreck of a club. May may seek early retirement . Tom Morris will report further revelations to this fantasy tale in the next edition of any outlet that will pay him to make this stuff up

Demonland Trackwatchers braved the sweltering heat to bring you their Preseason Training observations from Gosch's Paddock on Monday morning. SCOOP JUNIOR'S PRESEASON TRAINING OBSERVATIONS I went down today in what were pretty ordinary conditions - hot and windy. When I got there, they were doing repeat simulations of a stoppage on the wing and then moving the ball inside 50. There seemed to be an emphasis on handballing out of the stoppage, usually there were 3 or 4 handballs to

BEST OF THE REST by Meggs

Meggs' Review of Melbourne's AFLW Season 9 ... Congratulations first off to the North Melbourne Kangaroos on winning the 2024 AFLW Premiership. Roos Coach Darren Crocker has assembled a team chock-full of competitive and highly skilful players who outclassed the Brisbane Lions in the Grand Final to remain undefeated throughout Season 9. A huge achievement in what was a dominant season by North. For Melbourne fans, the season was unfortunately one of frustration and disappointment
