2021 Injury List

Poor Sam. Talk about doing it the hard way. But he'll be cherry ripe for finals which we all know is when he plays his best footy. Sigh.

This and BB setback surely sets Tom to the forward line for the near future. Jackson will definitely be getting games in the circumstances and I can see Gawn being used forward more often to at least demand a defender on him. Meanwhile, M Brown surely will be called upon to be the Pederson successor he was obviously recruited to be.

Could be a very interesting stimulus for the coaches, forcing them to innovate with options like Petty and of course Rosman's big athletic contribution may be called on just to keep getting to contest after contest and hope the squadron of smart speedy little guys can work magic from the fall of the ball.

It does also add a wink and nudge in favour of the 'mysteriously' overlooked Kaine Baldwin. Even if he just spends a season on minimum pay being scrutinized while giving Casey an additional tall option. Because we don't want the 2s playing without any talls at all!

It sucks that it happened but we could learn a lot about a few players while we wait for BB and then Weid to return.

Said this before pre Brown and Weideman injury that I felt we still lacked depth in our forward department and was amazed we had not invited a Jackson Callow or Kaine Baldwin as a train on instead of Kobe Farmer and Deakyn Smith. Two big strong key forwards who are physically ready to go.

Callow invited to train with Hawthorn as of last week.

Baldwin wouldn’t have been a great option as he’s recovering from a second ACL.

Petty is a defender and has been training down back all pre season.

Yes dazz d 36  that is right with Petty however it doesn't mean that he forgot how to play as a key forward. He would hold up ok l believe.

He's been in the system for a while now and it's becoming increasingly  clear that he's not going to be the player we were hoping for.

Don’t agree.....he showed his true promise last year and will be back - bigger and better

wha ? We have 2 x Browns, Jackson, Tmac and Weideman. and Petty's played key forward. We must have close to the most key forwards in the league.

I had a lot of faith in Weids and thought the arrival of BB would be the catalyst for him allowing him to take the second defender each week.

He's missed a lot of games over the few seasons through injury and poor form. I'm starting to lose faith.

Petty is actually a forward. but goodwin sees him as a defender. If Goodwin had a brain he'd move Petty forward now but he won't because he's literally the worst coach of the modern era

I agree that Harry P is naturally a forward and should be training there.

Goodwin now has experienced assistants in Chocco & Yze that will have a say.

Given that the backline is well covered the obvious thing to do is send HP to train with the forwards

Enter Mitch Brown.

Hnmm Not ideal and can I add a triple and quadrupple PAAAAAAAAAAARK to the narative!??

Righto agree with dazzle re could , should have invited both of the Robust forwards mentioned ... But we didnt.

Mitch Brown ( who scored 2 Brownlow Votes in an eye catching display last year), LJ and Tommy Mac to eck out enough goals until at least Benny Brown comes back, Unless Goody thinks outside the square and plays Petty Back and May forward in what would be a "Bold" Move!???

No great loss

Well said OD. Weed played a couple of great quarters in 2018 finals. Nothing much before or since. If this was a big loss then heaven help us.

Ben Brown is the key for this season. Tmac played correctly by Goodwin and others can carry the load. Jackson will be miles ahead of Weed by years end.

Good post and I fear you may be on to something that Goody plays the likely AA Full Back down forward.

The defence is rock solid now and ripe for Goody to stuff up.

Mitch Brown is 31 years and we are in trouble and going nowhere if he's playing round 1. Ben Brown is half cooked with knee issues which we were well aware pre trade period. Petty has missed 12 months of football due to injury and will be a fair way off match fitness. Tom McDonald is cooked. He'll never get back to his best and people need to start accepting that.

Weideman has now gone down. McDonald takes the number 1 defender now and Jackson the 2nd best.

Defenders will be laughing.

I haven't lost faith in Weid yet. However, I will say that in 2019 Petty was a more effective forward than him even though Weid was carrying injuries. Petty has had a couple of preseasons since then. He might end up being better than Weid for the time being. It looked like he and Tommo were going to be fighting over the one place in the backline so maybe that problem has been solved for the time being.

Weideman and Ben Brown sidelined  is not like we would like it to look for us . It's not  nearing the end of the season  we are 6 weeks away from the season proper.

For all it is worth to the critics of TMac he now becomes our most important forward. So we all hope that he brings his 2018 form to the park.  Thank heavens we kept Tmac and Mitch Brown as our security,

Tom covers the Weid for now and hope Ben is back by at least round 2. IMO.    Don't forget  Fritch,   Kossi   Spargo   and our draftees. There is light at the end of the tunnel yet.

Not sure I'm all that bothered really. The Weid is just a player and whilst at times has shown some promise has not lived up to most demonlanders (me included) expectations. As long as BB gets back in early course then we will be OK with Jackson, TMac, the other Brown, Fritter and smalls to carry the load until BB returns and then IF Weid returns mid year and show us/me something to get excited about. One door closes and another opens as most coaches will say.

So you think 1 of 2 untried 18/19 year olds who were not drafted would be slotted in round 1 and make the difference? How many slots do we have available and what would stop us listing one now? This is not preferred but better these happen now than half way through the season if they occur. Or we could just not be conservative and grind them both in the ground for round 1 and have them useless 3 rounds in? .Lucky we retained TMac and he is in good shape. Lucky we retained M Brown. I wonder if they look at pivoting Petty forward?

Ugh 2021 is already dead to me

Jaded it is not as though we are missing a 50 goal forward. He was very average for most of last year and in the last month where we needed a key forward he was terrible. One game he had a total of 3 involvements. He had yet to prove he belongs at senior level IMO.

OVER YET? by KC from Casey

The Friday evening rush hour clash of two of the VFL’s 2024 minnows, Carlton and the Casey Demons was excruciatingly painful to watch, even if it was for the most part a close encounter. I suppose that since the game had to produce a result (a tie would have done the game some justice), the four points that went to Casey with the win, were fully justified because they went to the best team. In that respect, my opinion is based on the fact that the Blues were a lopsided combination that had

Our game is one where the result is often decided by centimetres; the touch of a fingernail, a split-second decision made by a player or official, the angle of vision or the random movement of an oblong ball in flight or in its bounce and trajectory. There is one habit that Melbourne seems to have developed of late in its games against Carlton which is that the Demons keep finding themselves on the wrong end of the stick in terms of the fine line in close games at times when centimetres mak

    MELBOURNE BUSINESS by The Oracle

In days of old, this week’s Thursday night AFL match up between the Demons and the Blues would be framed on the basis of the need to redress the fact that Carlton “stole” last year’s semi final away from Melbourne and with it, their hopes for the premiership.  A hot gospelling coach might point out to his charges that they were the better team on the night in all facets and that poor kicking for goal and a couple of lapses at the death cost them what was rightfully theirs. Moreover, now was

UNDER THE PUMP by KC from Casey

The Casey Demons have been left languishing near the bottom of the VFL table after suffering a 32-point defeat at the hands of stand alone club Williamstown at Casey Fields on Sunday. The Demons suffered a major setback before the game even started when AFL listed players Ben Brown, Marty Hore and Josh Schache were withdrawn from the selected side. Only Schache was confirmed as an injury replacement, the other two held over as possible injury replacements for Melbourne’s Thursday night fixt
