Posting unsubstantiated rumours on this website is strictly forbidden.

Demonland has made the difficult decision to not permit this platform to be used to discuss & debate the off-field issues relating to the Melbourne Football Club including matters currently being litigated between the Club & former Board members, board elections, the issue of illicit drugs in footy, the culture at the club & the personal issues & allegations against some of our players & officials ...

We do not take these issues & this decision lightly & of course we believe that these serious matters affecting the club we love & are so passionate about are worthy of discussion & debate & I wish we could provide a place where these matters can be discussed in a civil & respectful manner.

However these discussions unfortunately invariably devolve into areas that may be defamatory, libelous, spread unsubstantiated rumours & can effect the mental health of those involved. Even discussion & debate of known facts or media reports can lead to finger pointing, blame & personal attacks.

The repercussion is that these discussions can open this website, it’s owners & it’s users to legal action & may result in this website being forced to shutdown.

Our moderating team are all volunteers & cannot moderate the forum 24/7 & as a consequence problematic content that contravenes our rules & standards may go unnoticed for some time before it can be removed.

We reserve the right to delete posts that offend against our above policy & indeed, to ban posters who are repeat offenders or who breach our code of conduct.

WE HAVE BUILT A FANTASTIC ONLINE COMMUNITY AT DEMONLAND OVER THE PAST 23 YEARS & WE WOULD LIKE TO CONTINUE TO BE ABLE TO DISCUSS THE CLUB WE LOVE & ARE SO PASSIONATE ABOUT.

Thank you for your continued support & understanding. Go Dees.

Kade Kolodjashnij Retires

No clarity on whether he’ll have to be demoted to a rookie spot and then replaced or whether they’ve got all his payout in to 2020. Although it reads like they might’ve. All largely academic.

As for the player - we got the medical report badly wrong. And we so badly that we were prepared to go to 3 years rather than a 1-2 year punt. In fairness other clubs probably thought 1-2 was worth a go so there was likely competition. But the lesson is don’t stuff around with guys with bad concussion histories, it’s not worth it for anyone.

Going by the article on the Dees website, it sounds as though he is over most of the issues and is in a really good head space.

So I'm glad he has made the decision to retire.  There is no need to get over these symptoms and then go back out there and potentially make it worse than before.

All the best in your future endeavours, KK.

It’s very sad to see a gifted player not able to fulfill his talent.  He had class and skill to be a very good outside mid or HBF. Probably the exact type we need (classy left footer).

But his health is the priority and I believe he had some very serious issues with his ability to function and do the day to day tasks. Glad to hear that he’s at least back to being able to do what we take for granted.

I think the Dees have him under contract and he gets a payout. But we may have to keep him on the list.  They might transfer him across to the rookie list for the purpose of list management.

Best of luck to KK, I hope his long term health is good. With him retiring does this mean we'll be able to use 4 picks at the draft whereas before we could only use 3 due to list spots?

Correct.  Pick #50 is now 'live'.

@spirit of norm smithAs KK's retirement is before final list lodgement, he will come off our lists altogether.  Similar to Stevens at Geelong.

On KK, the club gave him a second chance and every chance to continue his career.  A shame it worked out as it did but he has made a good decision.  Good Luck to him for the next stage of his life.

EDit:  kolodjashnij-retires-from-football

He seems to be doing well:

Pleasingly, Kolodjashnij has overcome his concussion issues and is in a good space.

He is now running his own business with his brother Jake, focussing on natural insect repellent.

“I am back in a pretty good place now – I am exercising and feeling good physically and mentally,” Kolodjashnij said.

May be drawing a long bow here, but this tells me we may not be going to trade any of our picks to move up the draft as we now have the exact number of picks as list spots available.

We might be looking at the Rookie Draft?

The club did a great job sorting Brayshaw's concussion issues (at the time i would have advised him to give it away) they probably thought they could do the same with KK.  He never got close unfortunately.

Terrible luck for the kid. He had one great season with GC where he looked a real player.

BEst of luck KK. Sorry it didn't work out differently.

Good luck to him for the future, though we never should have traded for a player that GC knew was cooked and didnt offer a contract to. We funded his insect repellent business starting up though i guess.

Or perhaps they may now give a little more consideration to taking on a delisted free agent?  Perhaps Jetta, while previously considered unlikely, might now be looked at a little more closely?

Ouch!?...

...And I think he actually says he and Jake have invested in an (existing) family business. So not so risky, that support by the club! Maybe an investment in a future sponsor? (cue discussion on how we might 'use' an insect repellent association...?)

More and more there are stories from various different professional sports of players who retired 20-30 years ago who just pushed through the headaches and symptoms but are paying for it now. I’m glad things are developing to the point now that we can recognise when it’s not worth the long term health of someone to get them back on the field.

I’m glad he’s better physically and mentally, it’s sad it didn’t work out, and I wish him nothing but the best for the future.

Thanks for coming to our great club and putting on the jumper KK  You were a gifted player and we never got to see much of you with us  and that is my sadness.

Good luck with your next venture and hope that good things come your way.

Your health is more important in the long run and l believe you have made the right decision .  In my eyes l consider you a Melbourne person.

From someone who screwed their body in their mid-20’s and has to live with it, he’s absolutely making the best decision. Nothing is worse than struggling for the rest of your life over a few years of a certain type of (basically thankless) work when you’re older. Great decision that you won’t regret, thanks KK for pulling in the Dee’s jumper.

Don't under estimate Mahoney. He seems to be ahead of the game on these things.

LEADERS OF THE PACK by The Oracle

I was asked to write a preview of this week’s Round 8 match between Melbourne and Geelong. The two clubs have a history that goes right back to the time when the game was starting to become an organised sport but it’s the present that makes the task of previewing this contest so interesting. Both clubs recently reached the pinnacle of the competition winning premiership flags in 2021 and 2022 respectively, but before the start of this season, many good judges felt their time had passed - n

    TRAINING: Monday 29th April 2024

Demonland Trackwatcher Kev Martin was on hand at Gosch's Paddock for Monday's training session and made the following observations. About 38 to 40  players down at training.  BBB walking laps.  Charlie Spargo still in rehab, doing short run throughs.  Christian Salem has full kit on and doing individual work with a trainer. He is is starting to get into some sprints. I cannot see Andy Moniz-Wakefield out there. Jack Viney and Kade Chandler have broken away from the

    DISCO INFERNO by Whispering Jack

Two weeks ago, when the curtain came down on Melbourne’s game against the Brisbane Lions, the team trudged off the MCG looking tired and despondent at the end of a tough run of games played in quick succession. In the days that followed, the fans wanted answers about their team’s lamentable performance that night and foremost among their concerns was whether the loss was a one off result of fatigue or was it due to other factor(s) of far greater consequence.  As it turns out, the answer to
