Discussion on recent allegations about the use of illicit drugs in football is forbidden
  • IMPORTANT: PLEASE READ BEFORE POSTING

Posting unsubstantiated rumours on this website is strictly forbidden.

Demonland has made the difficult decision to not permit this platform to be used to discuss & debate the off-field issues relating to the Melbourne Football Club including matters currently being litigated between the Club & former Board members, board elections, the issue of illicit drugs in footy, the culture at the club & the personal issues & allegations against some of our players & officials ...

We do not take these issues & this decision lightly & of course we believe that these serious matters affecting the club we love & are so passionate about are worthy of discussion & debate & I wish we could provide a place where these matters can be discussed in a civil & respectful manner.

However these discussions unfortunately invariably devolve into areas that may be defamatory, libelous, spread unsubstantiated rumours & can effect the mental health of those involved. Even discussion & debate of known facts or media reports can lead to finger pointing, blame & personal attacks.

The repercussion is that these discussions can open this website, it’s owners & it’s users to legal action & may result in this website being forced to shutdown.

Our moderating team are all volunteers & cannot moderate the forum 24/7 & as a consequence problematic content that contravenes our rules & standards may go unnoticed for some time before it can be removed.

We reserve the right to delete posts that offend against our above policy & indeed, to ban posters who are repeat offenders or who breach our code of conduct.

WE HAVE BUILT A FANTASTIC ONLINE COMMUNITY AT DEMONLAND OVER THE PAST 23 YEARS & WE WOULD LIKE TO CONTINUE TO BE ABLE TO DISCUSS THE CLUB WE LOVE & ARE SO PASSIONATE ABOUT.

Thank you for your continued support & understanding. Go Dees.

So I'm starting this before the end of the game, as I'm so angry and disappointed and let down that I need to write something down to get it off my chest.

That game was lost from the moment Salem was pinged for holding the ball in the first five seconds.  We played lazy, selfish, arrogant football and we were taught a football lesson by a team that has been distinctly average all season.  They came in with a plan - to get a man behind the ball to either pick off the long kick, or to help with mopping up when it hits ground level.  They did it all night.  Have a think about how many times we crumbed a goal, or truly put some forward pressure on?  It was rare, at best.

We also lost this at selection.  Losing Hibberd hurt, and you could understand the reasoning behind Hannan and AVB going out, but the ins made no sense.  Joel Smith?  Yeah, he was okay in patches, but we know he doesn't work down there.  And what about Oscar.  Sheesh.  I hate to be that supporter, but this bloke can't play another senior game for us.  He was God awful.  But that's on Goodwin - why is he playing him?  What has Lockhart done to be dropped and left in the wilderness?  And as above - what of our forward pressure?  I thought Spargo did okay here and there, but others like Fritta, Melksham (outside of some good kicks in the first term), ANB etc provided little to no pressure and they did as they pleased.

But the concern, again, is through the midfield.  We are a contested ball winning, clearance team... and we were getting beat by one of the worst clearance sides in the comp.  What is going on here?  We are built for that sort of footy, yet we can't get our hands on it enough.

We can't even use the 'tired' excuse - the Swans were coming off the same break, they made less changes and looked far fresher than us.  They hounded us, got numbers around the ball and we looked helpless to do anything about it.

But I'm hurting after that.  Not just from the result, but from getting my hopes up yet again.  This is just the sort of game we lose, but I thought to myself that surely we have matured since then.  I couldn't have been more wrong.

And he has been a warrior for us, but Nathan Jones summed up our effort tonight in the second term.  With a chance of turning the momentum a little with a shot on goal, he lazily turns and kicks on his left, straight into the bloke on the mark.  Just unforgivable.  He is a wonderful Melbourne man, but he should never play for us again.  Stuff the 300.  We can't have experienced players in the side setting that sort of example.  It's just not on.

Lastly - because I need to say something positive - Ed Langdon is a ripper.  Yeah, he missed a few shots on goal, but his two way running and effort is something that all our players should watch.

If I could, I've give everyone here a hug.  I can't, so I'll send an e-hug instead.

@Wiseblood I was so looking forward to getting a win and then kicking back and watching the Blues and Giants slug it out. But nope, MFC is not that kind of club.

Hugs back, this club just keeps on serving it up.

From that first handball by Petracca I had a very bad feeling in my gut. And then Viney (Ithink) got caught with the ball trying to evade a tackle. I turned to my 25 year old Dees-mad daughter and we both said "Oh no, it's this again".

And so went the evening.

I shoud be used to this feeling, but I'm not. ruins the rest of my week/weekend.

And if I here anyone talk about how they didn’t handle the wind in that quarter, I’ll throw up. Sydney prepared for it perfectly. And we are left hearing excuses again.

John Longmire is a very smart coach.

He is the sort of coach that has Goodwin's number more often than not.

I wonder if the players had a similar expectation to some of the posters on the Gameday thread this morning. Dees easily, Swans are rubbish, no Rampe, no Mills etc etc.

Well, Sydney are a team that have dominated us over the last decade with a very good coach who’s also very good on game day.

This wasn’t a surprise at all.

Completely outcoached. Players with no hunger at all. Club can get stuffed. Pert and Bartlett will and should be ropeable, those kinds of performances cost the club big $$$

Also, one thing that needs to be highlighted:

We had yet another quarter, the second, where the opposition banged in five goals while we didn't kick one of our own.  It happens way too often for a side supposedly pushing for finals.

Take that one out and we won the first and third quarters, and both kicked 3.3 in the last.

I'm merely bringing this up to show that we are still having this sort of brain fades that don't last five minutes, but last for thirty, and we don't seem to have any answer for it when it starts to go pear shaped.

It's true.

It's like a car crash, and Goody is the guy who drives by realllllyyyy slow. Stunned face and all.

But to be fair, the players need to stand up as well, and they just seem content to watch it all happening, like they're in the couch with us.

There doesn't seem to be any leadership during these moments either.

Pissweak performance.

Oscar McDonald is by far the worst footballer ever to grace the red and blue. Its a comedy that we've gifted this potato to 80 games. Pack your games son, that's the last we'll see of you.

Jack Viney - Can't stand him and never been a fan. Is nothing but an idiotic selfish footballer. Nearly knocked out Trent Rivers because he he wanted the the ball himself when Rivers was about to gather the ball. Not only that, he is a disruption to our midfield set up. I would be happy to trade for a 2nd rounder.  Not a leader's [censored] and its laughable that he's our VC. Give it to Steven May and trade out this muppet.

Simon Goodwin - insipid coaching performance. I pumped him up on the back of thinking we'd easily beat Sydney and Freo. I got sucked in easily once again.

This is worse then the Port loss.

Not that Goody is responsible for all of them, but 9 out of the last 10 games going the Swans way is damning.

The worry for me is I've heard him in about four interviews try to explain his role, and his responses were confounding.  Hard to deliver in an ill-defined role.

We had to bring in another failed coach to replace another failed coach.

I was willing to believe the Port game where we got smashed was the outlier, and that we even rectified our errors from the Dogs game against the Saints last week.

But this one is beyond me.  Insipid doesn't even do it justice.

Really hurting after that.

Same effort as Port game.
both games 4 day break - both games weak as [censored].

this game travel from Alice to bubble, bubble to cairns. Port game travel as well on short break

not sure where the blame lies - not recovered enough, not mentally strong enough, not motivated enough vs not good enough/coaching/selection

my guess is recovery/mental as opposed to ability and coaching

Omac seemed poor tonight; not to make excuses, but what are peoples' thoughts on the effect the inclusion of Smith might have had on his role and the synergy of our defence?

Omac was way beyond poor.

Nothing to do with smith.

I never got the love for Richardson. Many talked of his 'smarts', but I haven't seen anything, other than the same stunned mullet face as Goody.

Viney going for the ball blindly is both admirable and our biggest downfall in the midfield. He’s a selfish footballer. He works super hard but sometimes it’s detrimental to our efforts because he’s always getting in the way of others.

If tonight isn't an indication that nothing will change then this club is well and truly pharked.

Sydney had the same amount of days rest as us and had to travel from Adelaide.

Oxymoron type performance from everybody involved at the MFC.

You watch the Dockers go to town on us on tuesday and Hogan tear us a new one.

    DISCO INFERNO by Whispering Jack

Two weeks ago, when the curtain came down on Melbourne’s game against the Brisbane Lions, the team trudged off the MCG looking tired and despondent at the end of a tough run of games played in quick succession. In the days that followed, the fans wanted answers about their team’s lamentable performance that night and foremost among their concerns was whether the loss was a one off result of fatigue or was it due to other factor(s) of far greater consequence.  As it turns out, the answer to

TIGERS PUNT CASEY by KC from Casey

The afternoon atmosphere at the Swinburne Centre was somewhat surreal as the game between Richmond VFL and the Casey Demons unfolded on what was really a normal work day for most Melburnians. The Yarra Park precinct marched to the rhythm of city life, the trains rolled by, pedestrians walked by with their dogs and the traffic on Punt Road and Brunton Avenue swirled past while inside the arena, a football battle ensued. And what a battle it was? The Tigers came in with a record of two wins f

It's Game Day and the Demons once again open the round of football with their annual clash against Richmond on ANZAC Eve. The Tigers, coached by former Dees champion and Premiership assistant coach Adem Yze have a plethora of stars missing due to injury but beware the wounded Tiger. The Dees will have to be switched on tonight. A win will keep them in the hunt for the Top 4 whilst a loss could see them fall out of the 8 for the first time since 2020.

There’s a touch of irony in the fact that Adem Yze played his first game for Melbourne in Round 13, 1995 against the club he now coaches. For that game, he wore the number 44 guernsey and got six touches in a game the team won by 11 points.  The man whose first name was often misspelled, soon changed to the number 13 and it turned out lucky for him. He became a highly revered Demon with a record of 271 games during which his presence was acknowledged by the fans with the chant of “Oozee” wh
