Dom Tyson - Yes or No ?

Worth little as trade bait. Still young. More value to us in the future as we add better quality to our midfield. As a 5th or 6th mid he's good, ATM as the 3rd he's frustrating.

Struggles to hit a target going forward and slow to dispose under pressure. Goodwin talks about things players need to work on to improve. These areas are what I'd tattoo on the back of Dom's hand.

Needs bigger tank so that he keeps pushing hard to compensate for lack of speed. There are plenty of slow mids in the AFL who run and run and push hard to get to every contest.

His disposal by foot on Sunday was deplorable and has not improved since crossing from GWS. He is a B grade inside/outside mid at best because his foot skills are consistently poor. I don't think that he will be part of a successful Melb premiership team so if a reasonable trade is on offer I would take it.

It's easy to say trade him, but how does getting a pick in the 30s help us? He's not keeping any gun youngsters out of the team. Replacing him with a Maynard or JKH does not improve the team one iota.

We need to improve our midfield depth so that a player like Tyson is either forced to improve his game, or is no longer guaranteed a game each week.

He has a lot of time in close and he's strong over the ball but his kicking hasn't improved. I actually think he's genuinely okay kicking wise but he makes awful decisions at times.

I wouldn't be against dangling him as trade bait. If we could get a good outside midfielder in return it might be a win-win

Gee, the knives are out aren't they.

Maybe some people should let the dust settle before blae game really begins.

A big no for me and has been a big no for 2 years.

  • Field Kicking is suspect.
  • Went back to his old habit of holding on to the ball too long and looping it over his head with both arms to find time.
  • On average 5-6 times out of 10 gets tackled from behind or to the side as a result...needs to work on peripheral vision. (in fact they all do)
  • Cannot hit a target at close range by hand or foot, especially when a player is running past. Usually goes straight to their feet.
  • Tackling pressure is minimal.
  • A lot of pressure for midfield spots.

But if there is no option where we can tack him on as part of a trade...re-invent him as a small forward.

  • His goal kicking is decent.
  • Need a left footer in forward line.

I can't add much more than the others.  He gets a ton of the ball but a the same time his decision making, disposal and want to try and do too much hold him back.

The other thing is that he doesn't have an extra string to his bow.  He is a pure mid without the real ability to play a half forward or half back.

I'd like to see the market tested on what he is worth, but at the same time I still think there might be some scope for improvement.  The problem is that he has gone backwards for 3 years.  It's not really a good sign.

Trade.

Turned the ball over twice in the 1st 3 minutes on Saturday. Has progressively got worse after his tremendous first year.

Looks like he overates his ability and always tries to bite off more than he can chew.

The Salem, Tyson trade is a bust for me.

Major bust.

Salem doesn't have a position in AFL football.

Amazed I'm the first to bring up what I believe is a glaring weakness, situational/spacial awareness.

Gets caught with the ball far too often, because he has no idea he has oppo players close by.

Having said that, while not an A grader, I think he is a very useful player, and yes, a tad underrated on this board.

Most of our players look great when we are winning. Conversely, they mostly look bog-ordinary when we lose.

Funny that.

Does anyone else think Salem/Tyson kick the ball the same way, the only difference is that Salem hits targets and Tyson doesn't. Their similarity in these dinky little 15-30m chip kicks is remarkable. When have we seen Salem or Tyson do a 40-50m powerful lace out drop punt to a player in space or one that leads the marker to a position they want them to take the mark that is offensively geared? How about a 30-40m bullet pass that has the leather kicked out of it?

Maybe they both need to do some leg strengthening exercises like Gus is doing for his neck.

A no from me.

Roos should put his hand up and say he got it wrong on that trade.

Tyson and Salem for Josh Kelly (if we really wanted Hunt we would've drafted him with an earlier pick than we did). Like it or not, we got this massively wrong.

Roos' ego is too big for him to ever concede he got it wrong.

Tyson was like a Rolls Royce in his first season with us.

The only thing that's really changed is the game plan. He hasn't adapted well to it just like many others.

STMJ mentioned in his war and peace OP that we don't have the skill to execute the game plan.

He's right, and Dom isn't coping.

    GAMEDAY: Rd 13 vs Collingwood

It's Game Day and the Demons are once again faced with a classic 8 point game against a traditional rival on King's Birthday at the MCG. A famous victory will see them reclaim a place in the Top 8 whereas a loss will be another blow for their finals credentials.

    BOILED LOLLIES by The Oracle

In the space of a month Melbourne has gone from chocolates to boiled lollies in terms of its standing as a candidate for the AFL premiership.  The club faces its moment of truth against a badly bruised up Collingwood at the MCG. A win will give it some respite but even then, it won’t be regarded particularly well being against an opponent carrying the burden of an injured playing list. A loss would be a disaster. The Demons have gone from a six/two win/loss ratio and a strong percentag

CLEAN HANDS by KC from Casey

The Casey Demons headed into town and up Sydney Road to take on the lowly Coburg Lions who have been perennial VFL easy beats and sitting on one win for the season. Last year, Casey beat them in a practice match when resting their AFL listed players. That’s how bad they were. Nobody respected them on Saturday and clearly not the Demons who came to the game with 22 players (ten MFC), but whether they came out to play is another matter because for the most part, their intensity was lacking an

    ALAS SPRINGS by Whispering Jack

I got the word on Saturday from someone who knows someone inside the Fremantle camp that the Dockers were pumped and supremely confident about getting the W the next day against Melbourne at TIO Traeger Park in the red heart of the country. I was informed that the Dockers were extremely confident for a number of reasons. They had beaten the Demons on their home territory at the MCG at their last two meetings so they didn’t see beating them at Alice Springs as a problem. They belie
