Demonland has made the difficult decision to not permit this platform to be used to discuss & debate the off-field issues relating to the Melbourne Football Club including matters currently being litigated between the Club & former Board members, board elections, the issue of illicit drugs in footy, the culture at the club & the personal issues & allegations against some of our players & officials ...

We do not take these issues & this decision lightly & of course we believe that these serious matters affecting the club we love & are so passionate about are worthy of discussion & debate & I wish we could provide a place where these matters can be discussed in a civil & respectful manner.

Even discussion & debate of known facts or media reports can lead to finger pointing, blame & personal attacks.

The Jack Trengove is BACK Thread

I put this in another thread but can go here to.

This is where Trengove can show he still has it if he gets a call up.

He has been totally committed to rehab and playing in the vfl working on his game and NOT been off drinking with some other players and after what he has been through who could blame him if he did.

He has the leadership skills which has been said on numerous occasions in the vfl reports and can play a midfield role with Oliver.

Get him in and we will finally know if he is back to AFL level or not after his long term injury.

We need to know before the end of the season.

Imo he can still play at afl level and I hope he gets and takes the opportunity to show it.

Unfortunately I suspect the football department already know about his capabilities and have made their decision

I hope u r wrong mydee and there have been occasions where a player is selected and exceeds the coaches expectations.

This may be that time.

No point letting him rot in the vfl when he is playing well and consistently when there are soi many injuries.

You might be right, but on the flip they side they may value his experience and leadership in this instance.  We've lost plenty of that through Viney and Jones and they may feel what he can bring to the side is too valuable to ignore.

I hope I am too and there are many great stories of comebacks in sport Rassmussen of Essendon and Roughnead of Hawthorn are two great examples. But they are few and far between

The heart of our contested ball-winning brigade has been torn out with Jones, Viney and probably Tyson gone.  Oliver and Petracca can't do the heavy lifting on their own.  To me this looks like the ideal time for Trengove to step in and take over as the inside ball-winner.  His lack of pace won't be a huge factor for that.  Hopefully he still has the quick thinking and skills he displayed when drafted.

We could do a lot worse than bringing him in to fill the role.

Totally agree and I couldn't believe White is ahead of Trenners.

I never take much notice of Casey reports and less so when Trengove is involved.

Some posters can't reference Trengove without talking about his pace.  It's just inbuilt.  "I'lll mention how Trengove is going, but I  must highlight his lack of pace".  I no longer take any notice.

We all know he's not fleet of foot and he'll probably get delisted at year's end, but if he's good enough he's quick enough.  If he's not good enough he's gone.

Trengove is too slow....

too soon?

I must admit I'm not as up on everything in and around the club but White coming in was a surprise because I hadn't really heard of him bang down the door of selection.

Trenners sounds like he's just been going about his business with every  bit the professionalism you'd expect. But if he's ever going to get one last crack at it, surely it's now. Play him across half back in Vinces/Lewis's role with stints in the middle, we've given him the extra year, let's see what he's got.

As someone pointed out on this thread, the selection committee seemed to have tunnel vision when it came to Weids vs Pedders, look how that's turned out.

Give him a go.

Personally, I would love to see Jack Trengove get a run this week?

Unfortunately, he needs to truly earn a call up. We cannot gift him a spot unless we have totally run out of options.

My one concern is his speed. I remember people mentioning that he is very slow and hasn't put together enough quality games in a row in the VFL.

I sincerely think it would be fantastic for Jack Trengove to be able to force his way back into the Demons' side. Especially, with the current dire injury toll

I have fond memories of Jack because he was a shining light during the dark days of the Bailey and Neeld eras from 2009 until 2013. The foot injury that Jack sustained was a cruel blow. Plus many of us seem to forget that he was a number 2# AFL draft pick and still has a huge amount of talent.

It would be wonderful to see him out there again playing for the Melbourne Football Club on a regular basis.

He was certainly too young to be made Co-Captain of the Melbourne Demons (same with Jack Grimes).

As sad as it seems, if Jack Trengove cannot break his way into the Demons's side soon then I fear he will be traded or even just delisted. :(

I wish Jack Trengove all the best and I genuinely hope to see him out there playing for the Demons in the AFL.

Nothing would make me happier than to see Jack play well in the senior side and get a chance to play finals. If anyone who deserves some fortune on his side it is definitely Jack.

I hope Jack (or his family and friends) reads this letter so that he knows that we are all thinking about him and want him to have success with the Demons.

It would be wonderful to see Jack achieving his full potential at the Melbourne Football Club.

Good luck and never give up Jack Trengove! :D

IF he cant get a game with our entire engine room out injured then he won't ever play for us again.  Right now we have a huge opening for him to step in and play a role that doesn't require burst pace so much as endurance and hardness.  It's more or less his ideal position.

Jones, Viney, Salem and Tyson injured, Bugg out, Brayshaw carefully managed, Oliver looking a little tired. Lewis not in hot form and most of the rest of our midfield rotation being part-timers there. Plus multiple other options under a bit of a cloud for breaking team rules.

I'd say we need every possible competent midfield option we can bring in.

No harm opening the possibility of fairytale, either. "Forgotten ex captain steadies the ship in hardworking comeback game".

At some stage, you would think that he should play, to at least show if he can still compete at afl level. Given the loss of a lot of leadership and midfield talent due to injury, you would think this may be the week. I hope he gets back and does well.

I don't think he will, I think goody will give someone like James harmes or Alex Neal bullen more midfield opportunity.

I think if trenners had a better game the last couple of weeks he'd be a chance

I don't know why we gave him a 1 year contract if we are not going to play him when everyone else is injured. He is experienced, he has a good build. Yes he is slow, blah blah blah, but if he can play in the guts to help out Trac and Oliver, I don't see why you wouldn't give him a game or two until at least Tyson is back.

Yes!

From another thread

In that post Jones says JT is in consideration.  Would hope he would not be kidding about that.  To see Hogan and Trengove on the G would be special and would give a real fillip to fans.

It's got me stuffed also.. but that said we have an odd history of writing contracts.

The way Roos and now Goody coach is they bring a player in and give him a role. So for Jack to come in what role would they want him to play? Of late he has been playing half back at Casey and to quote Plapp, "Learning a new role". I don't think we need another half back (quarterback) at the moment. If Hogan returns I expect we will play one less mid anyway.

On this basis I would be pleasantly surprised if Jack is selected

    MELBOURNE BUSINESS by The Oracle

In days of old, this week’s Thursday night AFL match up between the Demons and the Blues would be framed on the basis of the need to redress the fact that Carlton “stole” last year’s semi final away from Melbourne and with it, their hopes for the premiership.  A hot gospelling coach might point out to his charges that they were the better team on the night in all facets and that poor kicking for goal and a couple of lapses at the death cost them what was rightfully theirs. Moreover, now was

The Casey Demons have been left languishing near the bottom of the VFL table after suffering a 32-point defeat at the hands of stand alone club Williamstown at Casey Fields on Sunday. The Demons suffered a major setback before the game even started when AFL listed players Ben Brown, Marty Hore and Josh Schache were withdrawn from the selected side. Only Schache was confirmed as an injury replacement, the other two held over as possible injury replacements for Melbourne’s Thursday night fixt

THE MEANING OF FOOTY by Whispering Jack

Throughout history various philosophers have grappled with the meaning of life. Aristotle, Aquinas, Kant, Nietzsche, Schopenhauer and a multitude of authors of diverse religious texts all tried. As society became more complex, the question became attached to specific endeavours in life even including sporting pursuits where such questions arose among our game’s commentariat as, “what is the meaning of football”? Melbourne coach Simon Goodwin must be tired of dealing with such a dilemma but,
