Demonland has made the difficult decision to not permit this platform to be used to discuss & debate the off-field issues relating to the Melbourne Football Club including matters currently being litigated between the Club & former Board members, board elections, the issue of illicit drugs in footy, the culture at the club & the personal issues & allegations against some of our players & officials ...

We do not take these issues & this decision lightly & of course we believe that these serious matters affecting the club we love & are so passionate about are worthy of discussion & debate & I wish we could provide a place where these matters can be discussed in a civil & respectful manner.

Even discussion & debate of known facts or media reports can lead to finger pointing, blame & personal attacks.

The repercussion is that these discussions can open this website, it’s owners & it’s users to legal action & may result in this website being forced to shutdown.

And in fairness to Brown it sounds he was targeted off the ball all night.

If that's the case then it's the umpires duty of care in looking after Ben and they failed miserably once again.

I was there and stayed until mid way through the third quarter. No 29 for Willy was niggling him all night. That and some pretty trash service from further up the ground for much of the game might explain why he reacted as he did. Looks like we're stuck with his understudy for another week.

Because you can't elbow a bloke to the head area.

Regardless of what people think he deserves the 2 weeks.

The AFL are trying to stamp out this behind the play stuff. If he's had a delay concussion out of this then it justifies a suspension.

Braydon Pruess copped the same suspension for his exact same act.

The head area is sacred.  Pretty simple.

A week is fair but two weeks (before early plea) when I saw Hawkins break May’s face and get 0 weeks? Please.
The head is sacred unless you’re a star footballer playing for a big club. Brown has a perfect record. Never been aggressive. Two weeks is a total overreaction when the player didn’t even flinch.

Think BBB getting reported is a small, very small blessing.  being at the game on Thurs it was very obvious how hard it was for our Fwds to get leading lanes and take marks.  Weid needs to do more but port flooded back and made it hard for our fwds all night,  which is why is took Gawn and Jackson floating fwd to get some marks inside 50 from key targets.  Hopefully Weid can feel a little more comfortable knowing his spot is safe for a week.

T-Mac should not be dropped all year, he is a key link up player and the reason Gawn and Jackson get goals.  he drags the key def up the ground and allows our rucks to switch and get miss matches in our fwd line.  stuff you don't see on TV.  he is a big Key to our set up.

No change this week

I'm not a fan of Hunt but he did nothing on the weekend to be dropped.

Petty for Thommo but only if he is back to 100% fitness, if not let him build in the magoos whilst we are 0 losses

Don't think Benny meant to flush him and unfortunately he'll have to cop the week, but the Willy defender deserved every bit of it.

It's completely dodgy off the ball blocking and it's coming in to Brown's space to create contact way off the ball.

The defender leaves his direct opponent to block Brown and comes in right at him with his arms up to block him. The kind of motion that's seen Ryder in trouble this week.

Doesn't justify flushing him on the chin but Brown was well within his rights to strike at him because he's flat out cheating and making completely unnecessary contact.

Cut out the off ball cheating and you cut out the contact entirely.

Interesting take.

What the hell was the Willy guy doing trying to run a BB 70m away from the ball? That in itself is an infringement.

Maybe BB was just trying to shrug the guy off and being a 7 ft tall gumby was clumsy?

Coming a week after Mitch Brown was put out of the game against Essendon and at least another week by a blow behind the play, this sounds like cruel justice to me.

Sounds like a vendetta to me..

You can tell by the immediate reaction he hasn’t meant to get him high. Very similar to Gaff on Brayshaw, thankfully without the damage.

Pretty clear what the Willy defender is doing too. Bump in to Brown, keep him outside 50, give his team mate a chop out and even better if you can draw a free kick too.

I’m with @DeeSpencer on this.

Brown has to cop the suspension because he elbowed the bloke in the head, but let’s not rush to shame him because it looks like he was clumsy but didn’t intend to get him in the head, and the bloke was illegally blocking him a mile off the ball.

I’d challenge the intentional grading if there wasn’t the option of a guilty plea reducing it by a week. Take the week, accept the error, remember not to throw elbows around, but be mindful of the context. He comes back for ANZAC Eve.

I agree also.

I am in no way trying to shame Ben and I hope it doesn't come across as such

If you see my above post I think from all reports Brown was targeted to off the ball tactics and in that case it's meant he retaliated.

Exact what Williamstown wanted.

Umpires have a duty of care on the night in making sure this off the ball stuff doesn't happen.

It's a complete disgrace that they failed in their duty of care for Ben.

Brown is looking away and throws a forearm/elbow out just as he turns to look at the player. Hits him in the base of the chin/neck area, a momentary lapse but a silly one. There was no need to do that.

Far out!

Sam Weideman must be thanking his lucky stars!

Time to perform Sam! We all want you to succeed but you need to give 100% effort and have intensity throughout the entire game. Give David Neitz or David Schwarz a call if you need advice. I am sure they would be happy to speak to you.

As for Ben Brown. It is very disappointing but I think he was definitely sucked in to the situation.

I am also starting to detect a pattern with Williamstown doing this to Casey in the VFL. From previous accounts mentioned, the Seagulls are certainly developing a reputation of being scraggers and trying under-handed tactics against AFL listed players.

Anyway, time for Sam Weideman to stand up and deliver. No more excuses.

    MELBOURNE BUSINESS by The Oracle

In days of old, this week’s Thursday night AFL match up between the Demons and the Blues would be framed on the basis of the need to redress the fact that Carlton “stole” last year’s semi final away from Melbourne and with it, their hopes for the premiership.  A hot gospelling coach might point out to his charges that they were the better team on the night in all facets and that poor kicking for goal and a couple of lapses at the death cost them what was rightfully theirs. Moreover, now was

UNDER THE PUMP by KC from Casey

The Casey Demons have been left languishing near the bottom of the VFL table after suffering a 32-point defeat at the hands of stand alone club Williamstown at Casey Fields on Sunday. The Demons suffered a major setback before the game even started when AFL listed players Ben Brown, Marty Hore and Josh Schache were withdrawn from the selected side. Only Schache was confirmed as an injury replacement, the other two held over as possible injury replacements for Melbourne’s Thursday night fixt

THE MEANING OF FOOTY by Whispering Jack

Throughout history various philosophers have grappled with the meaning of life. Aristotle, Aquinas, Kant, Nietzsche, Schopenhauer and a multitude of authors of diverse religious texts all tried. As society became more complex, the question became attached to specific endeavours in life even including sporting pursuits where such questions arose among our game’s commentariat as, “what is the meaning of football”? Melbourne coach Simon Goodwin must be tired of dealing with such a dilemma but,
