What’s your favourite GOAL from the Grand Final?

Oliver's at the end of the third. Jackson runs in looking like he got that bike for Christmas that he asked Santa for but thought he wouldn't get. The Sparrow runs in looking like his lost puppy has come back home. Sheer joy!

Sparrow is an unbelievable cheerleader on the ground.  He jumps in the air and just loves seeing a team mate do something great.

Watch his celebration after max's running goal in the Prelim I think.

The best goal was the one the players set for themselves before the start of the season top 4 finish, to make the grand final and win the 13th premiership for the MFC.

The goals are individual efforts in games only get the results that you want to achieve during the season but team goals are the best.

Gus' goal was exceptional as were both of Trac's goals but the Clarry goal with 15 seconds to go in the 3rd felt like a nail in the coffin for the Doggies.

Coming back from the humiliation of three goals in 30 seconds felt impossible to me and I celebrated accordingly.

It's a good question and one I've thought about a lot. For me, these three are very hard to split but are the clear standouts from the 21 we kicked or whatever it was.

1. Petracca. Capping off arguably the most dominant individual GF quarter in history with THAT. Get outta here. (Little did I know he still had a hand to play in another)

2. Oliver. Legitimately pondered the possibility I had died and was at the pearly white gates after this goal. And yet it's still only #2.

3. Fritsch's 4th. Was a bloody goal without any context, but add in the crowd noise, BT's commentary, Fritsch's celebration and the realisation we were back made it pretty special.

MIght be time for yet another rewatch of the 3rd quarter.

I'll throw Benny Browns stong hands in the 3rd and early in the 4th into the mix.

Nothing better in the game than seeing the big forwards clunking them and kicking truly

Petracca. Just can't go past it for skill and execution under pressure.

But one that's grown on me in the re-watching is Sparrow's. That was one great kick, easily lost in everything that went on around it.

Also I really appreciate TMac's goal after the siren. Yes, pressure was off etc., but it still would have taken extreme concentration to put that through.

Really hard to choose. But Fritsch’s first in the 3rd Q was huge. It was the beginning, it got the team fired.

I said to my friends who were watching

“we are back in this”

Clarry’s goal on 3/4 time was the sealer for me

i will never get tired of watching that

But all 21 goals were superb….

I reckon we need a poll on this!!!

Mine has already been mentioned but it was Brayshaws goal to put us ahead. I think his running back and marking it leaving himself completely open to get a serious injury (even legally as Daniel had every right to go for the ball if he had been 1 second quicker to the contest) was the point where I knew we were going to win it. They were prepared to do anything and that mark required pure guts. Putting it straight through the middle like that, at that time of the game, to put is in front, pumped up the boys so much I felt. Hence the crazy last 38 seconds of the 3rd.

Trac’s 2nd. It seemed to dribble for an eternity for me, slow motion, and you could see instantly it was going in. I know these type of goals are second nature, but to do that so perfectly, in a grand final, game in the balance, with 57 years of pressure and being one of the main men… just ice cool.
And Kozzie’s cameo adds some extra flavour.

This.

How he made it look so easy is beyond me.

It also went directly through the middle.

Oliver's goal at the end of the 3rd quarter.

  • The athletic team grunt, spread and skill of Jackson, Viney and Oliver
  • I know many people despise the channel 7 commentary, but the "Bang: bang, bang, bang" call from James Brayshaw was breathtakingly perfect. I was up off the couch, roaring and fist pumping. Best moment of my footy watching life (apart from the raising of the cup by Goody and Max).
  • The right arm pointing of Clarry with a look of "we are gods" written across his face.
  • And the look of absolute astonishment and frozen shock on the faces of Treloar and Bont as they tried to understand what the **** was going on.

Close 2nd - Brayshaw.

Oliver. The whole passage of play, Jackson’s follow up, the handball, Clarry just swallows it at full speed, then the kick which sails over the goal umpires head. And the reaction of the Bulldogs, as if to say “we can’t beat this mob”. It just highlighted how much better we are than any team going around. We finally went to that GEAR we all knew we had.

    GETAWAY by Meggs

Calling all fit players. Expect every available Melbourne player to board the Virgin cross-continent flight to Perth for this Round 4 clash on Saturday afternoon at Fremantle Oval. It promises to be keenly contested, though Fremantle is the bookies clear favourite.  If we lose, finals could be remoter than Rottnest Island especially following on from the Dees 50-point dismantlement by North Melbourne last Sunday.  There are 8 remaining matches, over the next 7 weeks.  To Meggs’

    DRUBBING by Meggs

With Casey Fields basking in sunshine, an enthusiastic throng of young Demons fans formed a guard of honour for the evergreen and much admired 75-gamer Paxy Paxman. As the home team ran out to play, Paxy’s banner promised that the Demons would bounce back from last week’s loss to Brisbane and reign supreme.   Disappointingly, the Kangaroos dominated the match to win by 50 points, but our Paxy certainly did her bit.  She was clearly our best player, sweeping well in defence.

    GARNER STRENGTH by Meggs

In keeping with our tough draw theme, Week 3 sees Melbourne take on flag favourites, North Melbourne, at Casey Fields this Sunday at 1:05pm.  The weather forecast looks dry, a coolish 14 degrees and will be characteristically gusty.  Remember when Casey Fields was considered our fortress?  The Demons have lost two of their past three matches at the Field of Dreams, so opposition teams commute down the Princes Highway with more optimism these days.  The Dees held the highe

    ALLY’S FIELDS by Meggs

It was a sunny morning at Casey Fields, as Demon supporters young and old formed a guard of honour for fan favourite and 50-gamer Alyssa Bannan.  Banno’s banner stated the speedster was the ‘fastest 50 games’ by an AFLW player ever.   For Dees supporters, today was not our day and unfortunately not for Banno either. A couple of opportunities emerged for our number 6 but alas there was no sizzle.   Brisbane atoned for last week’s record loss to North Melbourne, comprehensively out

    GOOD MORNING by Meggs

If you are driving or training it to Cranbourne on Saturday, don’t forget to set your alarm clock. The Melbourne Demons play the reigning premiers Brisbane Lions at Casey Fields this Saturday, with the bounce of the ball at 11:05am.  Yes, that’s AM.   The AFLW fixture shows deference to the AFL men’s finals games.  So, for the men it’s good afternoon and good evening and for the women it’s good morning.     The Lions were wounded last week by 44 points, their highest ever los

    HORE ON FIRE by Meggs

The 40,000 seat $319 million redeveloped Kardinia Park Stadium was nowhere near capacity last night but the strong, noisy contingent of Melbourne supporters led by the DeeArmy journeyed to Geelong to witness a high-quality battle between two of the best teams in AFLW.   The Cats entered the arena to the blasting sounds of Zombie Nation and made a hot start kicking the first 2 goals. They brought tremendous forward half pressure, and our newly renovated defensive unit looked shaky.

    REMATCH by Meggs

The Mighty Demons take on the confident Cats this Saturday night at the recently completed $319 million redeveloped GMHBA Stadium, with the bounce of the ball at 7:15pm. Our last game of 2023 was an agonisingly close 5-point semi-final loss to Geelong, and we look forward to Melbourne turning the tables this week. Practice match form was scratchy for both teams with the Demons losing practice matches to Carlton and Port Adelaide, while the Cats beat Collingwood but then lost to Essendo

    WELCOME 2024 by Meggs

It’s been hard to miss the seismic global momentum happening in Women’s sport of late. The Matildas have been playing to record sell-out crowds across Australia and ‘Mary Fowler is God’ is chalked onto footpaths everywhere. WNBA basketball rookie sensation Caitlin Clark has almost single-handedly elevated her Indiana Fever team to unprecedented viewership, attendances and playoffs in the USA.   Our female Aussie Paris 2024 Olympians won 13 out of Australia’s all-time record 18 gol

    EPILOGUE by Whispering Jack

I sit huddled in near darkness, the only light coming through flickering embers in a damp fireplace, the room in total silence after the thunderstorm died. I wonder if they bothered to restart the game.  No point really. It was over before it started. The team’s five star generals in defence and midfield ruled out of the fray, a few others missing in action against superior enemy firepower and too few left to fly the flag for the field marshal defiantly leading his outnumbered army int
