My least favourite thread of the year.

I long for a year in which everyone just keeps their numbers and the only numbers to be "given out" are to new players.

But, sadly, that won't be this year, with Tholstrup apparently taking 12.

Does anyone have a rationale for how they choose a number that would suit a new player? Is it based on their personality or something?

It’s not really our choice about what no each player is listed.

Either they negotiate or accept the final Guernsey no offered to them.

Simple as we just watch on and marvel at the choice each year.

I was thinking Langford might get 12. Had 2 at Dandy, 22 for Vic Co. Think he likes a 2 on his jumper. Not that I have any clue.

Surprised with this choice.

But perhaps they want to retire number #10 for a year or someone is moving from their current number to this number?

It definitely seems like Koltyn Tholstrup is moving from #39 to number #12.

I'd give 10 to Aidan and stand him next to 'the Thug' on Kings Birthday.

Nev's old number for fellow indigenous backman - I like it.

Speaking of which, I missed this bit of news:

On 8 October 2024, Nev was announced as the senior men's coach of the Fitzroy Stars Football Club for the 2025 Northern Football Netball League (NFNL) season.

Also gets him away from that filthy Collingwood bunch, so I'm just as happy about that

Sorry to rain on your parade but he’s staying on in his role at Collingwood as well as coaching Fitzroy 😂

Fitzroy All Stars is a community club specifically for Aboriginal players and competes in the NFNL.  Like any community club I doubt being coach would be a highly paid role.

Cool thanks for clarifying.  Recall actually going to one of their grand finals Vs Heidelberg back in the mid/late 90s with my old man and one of his indigenous work colleagues.  Was a pretty wild and rough affair both on and off the feild.  Somehow I had in my head that this might be a team from Fitzroy Crossing in Northern Australia where maybe their may have been a little more professionalism, although that is probably still pretty grass roots type level and budget.

Goes completely with Neville's character to be seeking out a role giving back to the comunity than merely financial gains.  Still a great opportunity for him to coach a team in his own right and maybe build towards that at the top level at some point.

BEST OF THE REST by Meggs

Meggs' Review of Melbourne's AFLW Season 9 ... Congratulations first off to the North Melbourne Kangaroos on winning the 2024 AFLW Premiership. Roos Coach Darren Crocker has assembled a team chock-full of competitive and highly skilful players who outclassed the Brisbane Lions in the Grand Final to remain undefeated throughout Season 9. A huge achievement in what was a dominant season by North. For Melbourne fans, the season was unfortunately one of frustration and disappointment

UP IN LIGHTS by Whispering Jack

Those who watched the 2024 Marsh AFL National Championships closely this year would not be particularly surprised that Melbourne selected Victoria Country pair Harvey Langford and Xavier Lindsay on the first night of the AFL National Draft. The two left-footed midfielders are as different as chalk and cheese but they had similar impacts in their Coates Talent League teams and in the National Championships in 2024. Their interstate side was edged out at the very end of the tournament for tea
