Why we kick long and don’t cover their loose player is beyond me.

Rushing the kicking too. Need composure, they are not even applying pressure to us.

We work so hard to get the ball then give it away so easy

Soft and slow the usual Melbourne.

Believing their own press

Nope, not one bit. I would be joining in

This is like watching a bunch of ten year olds. They all run to where the ball is, get in each other's way, kick into each other and then when one of them randomly finds themselves free with the ball they kick it as hard as they can towards the goals.

Meanwhile we gave up two first round picks for a guy who built his reputation by never having an opponent and promptly put him in a situation where he always has an opponent. We left out two quality users in favour of a spare inside ball-winner and the inexplicable Wagner, and the umpires are all wearing blue and white undies.

In lieu of being at the ground, I watched the player tracker on the AFL Live app and it looks to me like Lever is always the spare defender at stoppage setups, but by the time the ball arrives in their 50 he's always been forced to take someone. This suggests that we're not getting back as quickly as Geelong are getting forward - this to me is a whole of system failure rather than an individual.

I accept this is a lot to extrapolate based on watching dots move about a phone screen.

Is there still anyone on here that thinks Wagner and Maynard were the right selections? The selection panel has learnt nothing from their repeated mistakes last year.

The whole telecast has been all Geelong, I thought it was out home game.  Nothing about Melbourne.  Surely they can find something to promote us.

Yep, but to be fair there is NOTHING that could be considered a Melbourne highlight

Defensive transition. They are waltzing it up the field every time they get it. Also, when Cam Guthrie can go from the centre bounce breaking tackles and kicking goals you know you are battling. Need to fix that if we are any chance to get back into.

What tackles? We didnt even make body contact.

Yeah and imagine if Henderson was playing for the Cats.

There are no excuses. We should be in this game and we are not.

No matter how many disappointment this club faces, they don’t seem to learn. Goodwin has a lot of answer for. Poor selection and awful match day coaching. Either we are serious about winning or we are trying to develop NQRs like Wagner and Maynard and Hannan?!

That was my point. We can’t say they are weakened by injury and neither are we. I would say it is about a draw. What we have served up is not good enough

No doubt, an awful second quarter.

Still, can turn it around pretty quickly. I believe we can do it.

But even then, these quarter fade outs just need to stop, for goodness sake.

A half fit Tyson is 10 times the player Maynard is. And I am twice the player Wagner is, in that I don’t play, and that’s less damaging to the team.

Unpressured turnovers.

Defensive setup at stoppages.

actually...this is very much like round 1 2007.

Whatever Roosy instilled defensively in us during his 3 year reign, has been completely dismissed by Goodwin.

Our defensive set-up is currently, and our midfield is lazy running back the other way to cover their free men. Lazy football going backwards, error riddled going forwards.

Demonland Trackwatchers braved the sweltering heat to bring you their Preseason Training observations from Gosch's Paddock on Monday morning. SCOOP JUNIOR'S PRESEASON TRAINING OBSERVATIONS I went down today in what were pretty ordinary conditions - hot and windy. When I got there, they were doing repeat simulations of a stoppage on the wing and then moving the ball inside 50. There seemed to be an emphasis on handballing out of the stoppage, usually there were 3 or 4 handballs to

WAYNE WUSSELL'S PRESEASON TRAINING OBSERVATIONS Rehab: Lever, Spargo, McAdam, Lindsay, Brown Sinnema is excellent by foot and has a decent vertical leap. Windsor is training with the Defenders. BEST OF THE REST by Meggs

Meggs' Review of Melbourne's AFLW Season 9 ... Congratulations first off to the North Melbourne Kangaroos on winning the 2024 AFLW Premiership. Roos Coach Darren Crocker has assembled a team chock-full of competitive and highly skilful players who outclassed the Brisbane Lions in the Grand Final to remain undefeated throughout Season 9. A huge achievement in what was a dominant season by North. For Melbourne fans, the season was unfortunately one of frustration and disappointment
