Beams and Zorko

Guns.....can we steal one or two.

Lions marking and pressure was spot on. I swear we didnt get a rub of the ball bouncing today.

Pedo and Hogan were better though.

Good lord.

I know right? I've made some poor calls in my time too, but sometimes I think people have some entrenched fear of being happy. It's the only reason I can think of that a Melbourne fan would bag Hogan.

Let's be honest. West Coast aren't beating Adleiade at home, let alone by 50 odd points.

We're playing finals ladies and gents. Nath Jones in September. Drink it in.

Even as someone who is seen as a perennial glass half full type, I'm still skittish about using the 'f' word.  It makes me nervous.

I know you are right, but I'll pretend I didn't read it for now.

Pedo has kicked more than his fair share of crunch goals this year.

Could have easily kicked 5 today.  In career best form.

took the foot of the pedal too early. But I can't stand all these teams who roll over against others team earlier in the year and decided to play against us pick and choose when to turn up.

Nope, Lions have vastly improved in the second half of the season.

Yep. I think the main concern now is who are we going to play in the finals. Will it be Sydney, or will it be Richmond or Port Adelaide? I know which ones I prefer.

I'm glad we won.  But that was nothing like an even game by 22 players.  At least 6 of our players had no impact at all.

It bodes well for improvement but not sustainable if we want to get some real finals action.

Hibberd was virtually our only really effective defender.  Jetta was ok today but Wagner and the Mcdonalds were poor.  Hopefully it is just a bad day and they all bounce back next week.  Along with Hannan, Garlett and Gawn.

They don't need to if we lose by say 30 they only need to win by about15 point. Best we just beat the filth and not worry about it.

Great win, and great to win, especially under the circumstances.

But against better sides, the poor disposals of some of our players will find us out. Amongst them, Jayden Hunt isn't so much a turnover merchant, it's just that half the time you wonder even what he was intending. And not sure what's going on with Stretch. Has a reputation as a smart footballer, puts together a string of really good perfs. in the VFL, but then looks uncertain and hesitant every time he gets a game. Perhaps it's a confidence issue.

Selection will be interesting next week, especially given that in theory we should have virtually our entire list to choose from. Viney, Watts, Salem in?

So....

As my wife and I fought our way through IKEA this afternoon with 2x cranky two year olds I was checking the scores every minute or two. The battle we faced dealing with lollygaggers, rubberneckers and just plain [censored] stupid people in the claustrophobic throng was nothing like the enjoyable Scandinavian utopia I was hoping for.

Judging by the score line, our anguished shopping outing seemed synonymous with whatever was happening at the G today.

Next scorecheck, we were kicking away (so I thought) to a four goal plus lead. By the time I got home they had it back to 7 points. I couldn't do it and turned off my phone. When I turned it back on, a dramatic message from a mate describing the shitfullness of the game made me think we'd lost. To much relief, a final scorecheck said otherwise.

bloody hell, I'm totally drained!

The burning question is watch the replay or not?

Please cast your votes here....

oh and GO DEEEEES!!!

Must admit I hate most of the commentators but Jono Brown is really good and balanced.

Eventhough is was Brisbane I thought his commentary was unbiased and worth listening too.

It was a very just nice change.

Oliver well held but Jones stepped up.

From the AFL website:

Nathan Jones finished with a game-high 12 score involvements for the Demons, and also had team-highs for disposals (32) and tackles (seven) in another important game from the senior Demon.

Worried about our bottom handful of players. Wagner, Stretch, Vince, ANB, etc. Just don't do enough.

Great to have Jesse back. Works well with Pedo.

Hunt had a Barry Crocker. Jeffy quiet again.

By the way Dayne Beams is an absolute star, Mathieson five free kicks for!

Wasn't clinical but the boys played with a lot of energy which was pleasing - particularly Trac and Hannan who had been looking a bit flat. Good run before the serious stuff.

Demonland Trackwatchers braved the sweltering heat to bring you their Preseason Training observations from Gosch's Paddock on Monday morning. SCOOP JUNIOR'S PRESEASON TRAINING OBSERVATIONS I went down today in what were pretty ordinary conditions - hot and windy. When I got there, they were doing repeat simulations of a stoppage on the wing and then moving the ball inside 50. There seemed to be an emphasis on handballing out of the stoppage, usually there were 3 or 4 handballs to

BEST OF THE REST by Meggs

Meggs' Review of Melbourne's AFLW Season 9 ... Congratulations first off to the North Melbourne Kangaroos on winning the 2024 AFLW Premiership. Roos Coach Darren Crocker has assembled a team chock-full of competitive and highly skilful players who outclassed the Brisbane Lions in the Grand Final to remain undefeated throughout Season 9. A huge achievement in what was a dominant season by North. For Melbourne fans, the season was unfortunately one of frustration and disappointment
