Discussion on recent allegations about the use of illicit drugs in football is forbidden
  • IMPORTANT: PLEASE READ BEFORE POSTING

Posting unsubstantiated rumours on this website is strictly forbidden.

Demonland has made the difficult decision to not permit this platform to be used to discuss & debate the off-field issues relating to the Melbourne Football Club including matters currently being litigated between the Club & former Board members, board elections, the issue of illicit drugs in footy, the culture at the club & the personal issues & allegations against some of our players & officials ...

We do not take these issues & this decision lightly & of course we believe that these serious matters affecting the club we love & are so passionate about are worthy of discussion & debate & I wish we could provide a place where these matters can be discussed in a civil & respectful manner.

However these discussions unfortunately invariably devolve into areas that may be defamatory, libelous, spread unsubstantiated rumours & can effect the mental health of those involved. Even discussion & debate of known facts or media reports can lead to finger pointing, blame & personal attacks.

The repercussion is that these discussions can open this website, it’s owners & it’s users to legal action & may result in this website being forced to shutdown.

Our moderating team are all volunteers & cannot moderate the forum 24/7 & as a consequence problematic content that contravenes our rules & standards may go unnoticed for some time before it can be removed.

We reserve the right to delete posts that offend against our above policy & indeed, to ban posters who are repeat offenders or who breach our code of conduct.

WE HAVE BUILT A FANTASTIC ONLINE COMMUNITY AT DEMONLAND OVER THE PAST 23 YEARS & WE WOULD LIKE TO CONTINUE TO BE ABLE TO DISCUSS THE CLUB WE LOVE & ARE SO PASSIONATE ABOUT.

Thank you for your continued support & understanding. Go Dees.

  • Demonland changed the title to Why did we fade out in games?

1. Coaching dept mindset (arrogance to believe that we could defend a lead)

2. Coaching dept game plan

3. Players mindset (once it happened 2-3 times, doubts crept into players mind)

4. Coaching dept team selection (poor structure, not dropping out of form players, not resting banged up players)

5. Fitness (key players banged up, which has nothing to do with general fitness).

Too many players carrying injuries or niggles, plus the cumulative fatigue of spending 2022 at the pointy end + a long 2021 with a deep finals run + reduced off-season/break. Throw into that that a lot of our players are still comparatively young and don't have the deep fitness that 10 years of pre-seasons develops.

Not a surprise that so few teams win back to back premierships.

Nothing to do with the coaching, or even the fitness staff for that matter. Griffith had the runs on the board, was head-hunted by Burgess and the FD as Burgess's replacement, and spent a year being trained up by Burgess.

Would love to hear Goodwin or someone in the FD actually articulate the reason. All I’ve heard is some vague “bit of everything” answer.

Would he really make public what he thought which would give to other clubs an indication of what changes he plans to make in 2023?  Doubtless they have a good idea anyway, but why give them anything - they all have 17 other clubs to worry about.  Or maybe he doesn't know himself yet.

About 45 years ago I played in the VAFA. There was one thing the coach said over and over at every training session and every match. “It’s a running game.” He was right then and he is still right now. Collingwood showed last night what a running game looks like. And it’s far more attractive than our game. Plus, they beat us and many other teams with it. If we can’t run or decide not to run, we’re playing the wrong game.

A few things I’ve seen this year;

1) we are not as sure defensively which has meant midfielders are working harder in defence to cover.

2) We cannot mark the ball in our forwardline, so the small forwards are constantly moving- they don’t get a spell and as a result get more fatigued. We seem to lose structure and our small forwards are too often caught in the back half.

3) We just can’t turn the ball over in our forward half and our pressure drops off.

4) Our inside to spread midfield work is off. Sloppy handballs leads to too many players going for the same ball.

But you see if he told you, would you promise not to tell anyone else?

We had to chase to much, in the back half of the season our ability to lock the ball inside our forward 50 really fell away,,which means every one works hard forward and the ball was coming straight out with little pressure and you then need to work hard to get into your defensive set ups.

You lock the ball in back 6 push up and are set for repeat entries you get a bit of a spell.  It is easier when you control the ball in your forward half than having to work back to defend.

They probably don't really know what the answer is. If they did they would have addressed already

As premiers, we were the hunted all season.

Even against two bottom teams North & West Coast both physically smashed into the Demons.

Add up multiple small things:

- shorter pre season

- being smashed every week as reigning premier

- Burgess replaced by Griffith

- Injuries TMac, then Gawn, Salem, Rivers, Trac, Oliver, BBB and players who looked like they were carrying Kossie, Jackson, Viney

- other teams focussed on strategies to beat Demons, spoken about every week in press

- Goodwin misjudged impact of 2nd tall forward, JVR should have been given a crack

- Sparrow, Jackson, Rivers, Spargo, Bowey all stagnated this year

- minor drop in desperation having won the flag in 2021

    DISCO INFERNO by Whispering Jack

Two weeks ago, when the curtain came down on Melbourne’s game against the Brisbane Lions, the team trudged off the MCG looking tired and despondent at the end of a tough run of games played in quick succession. In the days that followed, the fans wanted answers about their team’s lamentable performance that night and foremost among their concerns was whether the loss was a one off result of fatigue or was it due to other factor(s) of far greater consequence.  As it turns out, the answer to

TIGERS PUNT CASEY by KC from Casey

The afternoon atmosphere at the Swinburne Centre was somewhat surreal as the game between Richmond VFL and the Casey Demons unfolded on what was really a normal work day for most Melburnians. The Yarra Park precinct marched to the rhythm of city life, the trains rolled by, pedestrians walked by with their dogs and the traffic on Punt Road and Brunton Avenue swirled past while inside the arena, a football battle ensued. And what a battle it was? The Tigers came in with a record of two wins f

    GAMEDAY: Rd 07 vs Richmond

It's Game Day and the Demons once again open the round of football with their annual clash against Richmond on ANZAC Eve. The Tigers, coached by former Dees champion and Premiership assistant coach Adem Yze have a plethora of stars missing due to injury but beware the wounded Tiger. The Dees will have to be switched on tonight. A win will keep them in the hunt for the Top 4 whilst a loss could see them fall out of the 8 for the first time since 2020.

    OOZEE by The Oracle

There’s a touch of irony in the fact that Adem Yze played his first game for Melbourne in Round 13, 1995 against the club he now coaches. For that game, he wore the number 44 guernsey and got six touches in a game the team won by 11 points.  The man whose first name was often misspelled, soon changed to the number 13 and it turned out lucky for him. He became a highly revered Demon with a record of 271 games during which his presence was acknowledged by the fans with the chant of “Oozee” wh
