Demonland has made the difficult decision to not permit this platform to be used to discuss & debate the off-field issues relating to the Melbourne Football Club including matters currently being litigated between the Club & former Board members, board elections, the issue of illicit drugs in footy, the culture at the club & the personal issues & allegations against some of our players & officials ...

We do not take these issues & this decision lightly & of course we believe that these serious matters affecting the club we love & are so passionate about are worthy of discussion & debate & I wish we could provide a place where these matters can be discussed in a civil & respectful manner.

However these discussions unfortunately invariably devolve into areas that may be defamatory, libelous, spread unsubstantiated rumours & can effect the mental health of those involved. Even discussion & debate of known facts or media reports can lead to finger pointing, blame & personal attacks.

The repercussion is that these discussions can open this website, it’s owners & it’s users to legal action & may result in this website being forced to shutdown.

Our moderating team are all volunteers & cannot moderate the forum 24/7 & as a consequence problematic content that contravenes our rules & standards may go unnoticed for some time before it can be removed.

WE HAVE BUILT A FANTASTIC ONLINE COMMUNITY AT DEMONLAND OVER THE PAST 23 YEARS & WE WOULD LIKE TO CONTINUE TO BE ABLE TO DISCUSS THE CLUB WE LOVE & ARE SO PASSIONATE ABOUT.

All good points,  I do not disagree on any particular point, perhaps I look at Tmac with rose coloured glasses for one particular bullocking goal against  ? (west coast) in the goal square.  Weid could easily get to Tmac level, its all above his shoulders.

Tom has been on the edge of his end for some time now; a lot of his team stuff and contest actually seems to happen when he fails at what he is trying to do.

Weideman can certainly get to that level ; actually you'd think after being in the system for 6 years he'd be there now.

But he isn't and there is no sign he'll ever be Tom at his best.

When I see his name at CHF.I think......." Wayne Carey...not"!!

All this talk about Weideman's                " head"...that's Tom's issue as well         ( other than the fact he can no longer run the opposition into the ground which Weideman will never do) and I figure he's pretty much cooked.

But I am happy he got a flag  , even with the junk time goal after the siren...which probably hurt a bit.

Not a fan of the Dunstan inclusion. I am happy to be proven wrong but he is a poor man's Dan Hanneberry and lacks consistent grunt.

If by poor man’s Dan Hanneberry you mean that he actually gets on the park and doesn’t just take 800k a year to sit in the stands, then yes - he gets paid a lot less, for a lot more.

He is better than that and his Form at Casey has been solid if unspectacular. Sometimes players who can play do not shine in lower levels. I expect Dunstan to be very solid and link up well taking Vineys spot

I like the decision to keep in Weid

He has been ok in his 3 games and needs some regular games to build consistency and synergy with his teammates. He has started clunking marks which should be the main aim at the moment. Do that and the rest will follow.

TMac may feel hard done by but can bang down the door in the 2s to demand a spot back. He was brilliant early last season but hasn't been to that level since probably the Port game last year.

Interesting. Selection is tough at the moment.

Tomlinson vs Smith is tough but clearly Smith is a little ahead for the FD at the moment. His marking has been better than Thommo and his athleticism makes him more versatile.

TMac vs Brown vs Weid has finally changed. It’s very interesting to see the Weid /Brown combination, this is the one we’ve seen the least of with Tommy keeping his spot all of last year. I think it could work, Weid is a good athlete, clunks marks and generally plays better when not the number 1 target, Brown plays his best running long leading patterns and taking the number 1 defender. I hope they both have a day out. Tommy is stiff but he hasn’t turned it on yet this year.

Dunstan is coming in for the exact reason he was brought to the club, one of our contested beasts goes down, he comes in. If he plays his role we’ll be fine, he doesn’t need to be Viney (who has been in career best form) he just needs to play his role at stoppage and get the ball to Clarry, Trac, Ed and co. If he brings his best it could put more pressure on some of the younger mids when Viney comes back as his best is very good. Should be interesting.

Please [censored] those Tigers! Go Dees!

Dropping T-Mac does add clarity to the one position in the forward line other than the positions filled by Fritsch & Ben Brown

Weideman needs to perform to stay in the side but T-Mac also needs to also put pressure on Weideman's position ... so if Tom replaces Weideman down the track, the same scenario applies with roles reversed

So it's no longer a debate about which player plays the best (in the same side) and who goes and who stays

But Tom does have another avenue and that is as a reserve backman but with Smith seemingly ahead of him and Tomlinson in reserve, that path is a more difficult one

So it's over to you Sam but ... Tom needs to stand out for Casey as well

And Sam will almost certainly play across the half forward line and further afield ... a role others here have mentioned that he may be better suited to.  Lead up marks and then dishing off (quickly) could be his go (as opposed to playing as a deep forward)

Weideman is hardly "clunking "..he hasn't done that since the 3(?) In the finals 2018( ?)  ...so long ago I forget the detail.

Tom is an old man in this team and  probably plays a bit lost .

Is Van Rooyen far off a game? Probably too early and needs more time to develop. Tmac isn't getting any younger and the Weid hasn't nailed down a spot so there's an obvious pathway to the senior team for him if he's good enough.

we will miss Vineys' hardness and work rate at the coalface

Dunstan is more of an outside mid but kicks a few goals

Real chance for Sparrow to step up and do the grunt work all game like JV

I think if the finals started next week, TMac would be in the team - but they don’t and he is not.

Ideal world - we would not have both our key forwards as 30 year olds with long careers behind them.

So Sam gets more opportunities to earn a place in this team.

I’ve always seen Dunstan  as inside. Think he’s as good as we’ve got to try and replace Viney.

Dunstan got in for Viney. Good decision, he's better than Melksham in that role

We have such good fortune with injuries at the moment, I'd love to see Bedford get a game though the kid has talent

I have no knowledge of Dunstan or remember seeing him play at the saints.

What can we expect tomorrow night from him????

Any thoughts appreciated

UNDER THE PUMP by KC from Casey

The Casey Demons have been left languishing near the bottom of the VFL table after suffering a 32-point defeat at the hands of stand alone club Williamstown at Casey Fields on Sunday. The Demons suffered a major setback before the game even started when AFL listed players Ben Brown, Marty Hore and Josh Schache were withdrawn from the selected side. Only Schache was confirmed as an injury replacement, the other two held over as possible injury replacements for Melbourne’s Thursday night fixt

THE MEANING OF FOOTY by Whispering Jack

Throughout history various philosophers have grappled with the meaning of life. Aristotle, Aquinas, Kant, Nietzsche, Schopenhauer and a multitude of authors of diverse religious texts all tried. As society became more complex, the question became attached to specific endeavours in life even including sporting pursuits where such questions arose among our game’s commentariat as, “what is the meaning of football”? Melbourne coach Simon Goodwin must be tired of dealing with such a dilemma but,

LEADERS OF THE PACK by The Oracle

I was asked to write a preview of this week’s Round 8 match between Melbourne and Geelong. The two clubs have a history that goes right back to the time when the game was starting to become an organised sport but it’s the present that makes the task of previewing this contest so interesting. Both clubs recently reached the pinnacle of the competition winning premiership flags in 2021 and 2022 respectively, but before the start of this season, many good judges felt their time had passed - n
