Jack and his [censored] foot. Next TMAC will start having problems with his toe. Gosch’s needs to be dug up and relaid, even if to make sure that it isn’t a contributing factor.

Sorry has this been linked to Gosch's? Is there evidence to back that up considering they only train one day a week there and the rest at Casey.

Seems to be an ongoing issue every single year.

The club has been caught short on this issue.

Our midfield depth is not great  and they should have recruited more as its not as if Jacks foot is a surprise.  

You cant wxpect him to have weeks off and come back in and play at his best.

Its very very shortsighted.

We have moved heaven and earth stocking our back and forward line but been caught napping in the middle.

Complacent with poor Trac and Oliver doing so much lifting.

Unfortunately, an MRI scan very very rarely comes back negative for an ACL rupture when the clinical tests show patent instability. They are almost flawlessly predictive when there’s a clear positive. Two tests - the “pivot shift” test, and the “Lachman’s” test. Look ‘em up on YouTube if you’re interested. S**t luck for the big boy, as it always is of course.

On a somewhat positive note, Brukie and Burgo have said on their podcast that 6 months is plenty long enough for an ACL. Neither is sure why in the AFL a year is taken for granted. Other sports, 6 months.

Have they though?   I think it's pretty common knowledge that Jack has issues with his feet that need to be managed.  This isn't really that much of a surprise.  Just because he's missing a few weeks with a hot spot doesn't mean he's been mismanaged, it's always a watching brief with Jack.  That's why it's only 2-3 weeks and not 2-3 months because the club are sensitive to the issue.

Agreed @grazman, he's clearly a very good player, do you move him on because of injury issues? Nope.

It's a maintenance project - always has been, and always will be. Jack himself, and the FD will be well aware of this, and whilst always optimistic - take a risk management approach.

I don’t understand why we rushed to give him 5 years when he has so many ongoing foot issues. 
There is no doubt he’s an important part of our team and we are worse off defensively in clearances when he isn’t playing. But he hasn’t had an injury free season for a long long time, and that doesn’t appear to be changing. 
It’s a real concern that he can’t get over the foot problems.

I should've also mentioned that Jack is being more cautious/sensible in managing his body as well.  There's only so many brick walls you can run through before your body says enough is enough!

As someone that's gone through 3 ACL tears, 4 surgeries and the subsequent recoveries playing footy, 6 months is definitely not "plenty long enough."  9 - 12 months would usually be the minimum to have sufficient nerve and vascular growth through the graft (ligamentisation) to achieve the strength of the original ACL and also provide the brain with enough information about the strain you're putting on your knee.  At 6 months unless you're rocking some incredible quads and have one of those rare recoveries, you're taking an enormous risk of redoing your knee, or as is often the case, doing the opposite knee through unconsciously favouring it through a hasty recovery.

Frankly, I’d move Mac back, a position he is familiar with. Retain Brown up forward and bring in Weidman. Brown and Weidman have combined well at VFL level over recent weeks and are both part of the plan when Brown recruited.

Sparrow or Harmes for Viney until he comes back.

Gutted for Tommo, he was playing great footy.

As for next steps, I think TMac goes back and we bring Weideman in up forward. I would also play Majak in defence in the VFL to be ready to go. Petty also, but he is injured atm I believe?

I’m shattered for Tommo,  but  absolutely loved the way our boys got around him both during and after  the game.  There is a massive team spirit in our group, that I haven’t seen for a very for a long time.  We’ll miss him for sure, but we’ll restructure and galvanise in his absence!  All the best Tommo!!

It's not my opinion. I wrote it because Brukie and Burgo said it, and given Burgo is involved, it may indicate that Tomlinson will be out for not as long as we have come to accept.

I'm just glad he had enough time to prove he can play the role, earn respect and be confident of his place in the team upon return.

There was a piece very early last week somewhere on social media that Jack had gone in for scans on his foot. It would seem that the club managed to keep the story under wraps for almost the whole week. Not sure if there’s value in doing this.

I believe the long deals several players received are due to making space for  mega offer to CP5

Long term deals can give more flexibility in terms of salary cap management - e.g front or back loading, or as I suspect are the cases with the Harnes and Viney deals, a little less money year on year for the security the longer term offers - as others have said, this frees space for the Trac, Oliver, etc., contracts.
