Demonland has made the difficult decision to not permit this platform to be used to discuss & debate the off-field issues relating to the Melbourne Football Club including matters currently being litigated between the Club & former Board members, board elections, the culture at the club & the personal issues & allegations against some of our players & officials ...

We do not take these issues & this decision lightly & of course we believe that these serious matters affecting the club we love & are so passionate about are worthy of discussion & debate & I wish we could provide a place where these matters can be discussed in a civil & respectful manner.

However these discussions unfortunately invariably devolve into areas that may be defamatory, libelous, spread unsubstantiated rumours & can effect the mental health of those involved. Even discussion & debate of known facts or media reports can lead to finger pointing, blame & personal attacks.

The repercussion is that these discussions can open this website, it’s owners & it’s users to legal action & may result in this website being forced to shutdown.

Our moderating team are all volunteers & cannot moderate the forum 24/7 & as a consequence problematic content that contravenes our rules & standards may go unnoticed for some time before it can be removed.

WE HAVE BUILT A FANTASTIC ONLINE COMMUNITY AT DEMONLAND OVER THE PAST 23 YEARS & WE WOULD LIKE TO CONTINUE TO BE ABLE TO DISCUSS THE CLUB WE LOVE & ARE SO PASSIONATE ABOUT.

Collingwood is interested in prying out of favour defender Neville Jetta from Melbourne during the trade period.

Jetta is contracted for 2021 but managed just six senior matches this year.

Foxfooty.com.au understands he loves his Demons teammates but Nathan Buckley has spoken to him directly and the prospect of a multi-year deal at the Pies and more career certainty appeals to him.

Jetta will be 31 next February and is eager to play regular senior football again. He is not the highest priority for the Magpies, but he remains a player of significant interest nonetheless.

Jetta has told close friends he is weighing up his next move and would find it hard but not impossible to leave the Demons in order to eek two or three more years out of his career.

Given he wasn‘t in Simon Goodwin’s best 22 for most of 2020, the Demons would accept a fair trade.

Magpies lock in on crafty defender

Just read a Tom Morris (i know..) report saying Buckley has spoken directly to nev Jetta and they could offer him a multi year deal to continue career at the Pies. Interesting. I love Nev and he has been amazing for us but he is slower than a wet week and his best is well and truly behind him.

Thoughts?

Wouldn't be upset if he left. Hopefully Lockhart can take the next step and play all games and Rivers is a quaility small defender.

In so many games he played this year he went off injured, came back on, went off injured again and was highly disruptive to our rotations.

Played like a veteran near the end.

Nev is shot.. he kept going to ground, looking for a free, he couldnt get away from anyone, he couldnt chase anyone. Toughas they come, gret 1 on 1 and a supreme team man, i love him, we all love him.. but if you are wanting to recruit Nev and you offer him 2/3 years  then good luck, it feels like they are recruiting a cultural player, because you wouldnt recruit him on for and , Nev would be silly not to take it. He is not part of the future for us and him going would not change the way we feel about him.

This is where I’d be hopeless as a list manager. I know from what he showed this year that he is at or near the end, but he is such a quality person, and such a great influence and role model to our players, that I couldn’t let him go.

id be offering him a role at the club to keep him. When you have a gem like Nev, you should never part with it.

To be selfish for the club, the trade we would get for Jetta wouldn't make up for his leadership and experience.  He would be worth more to the MFC playing 2s and mentoring our young players than what we would get for him.

He looked done this year at AFL level, we don't know if he had underlying injury issues.

Would keep him, however if he came to the club for a trade you would also respect that as he has been a great club person and you want to do the right thing by him

Nev is another who spent most of 2019 injured and the lack of a VFL comp in 2020 prevented him from finding form and consistency.

2020 is a poor measure of his performance.  I wouldn't be too quick to trade him out especially if it was for some rubbish pick.

Sometimes a players team value and cultural value cannot measured.  I don't mean indigenous cultural value albeit that is important.  I mean cultural value in terms of role model and standards both football and community contribution.

Life member and good bloke, if he's not in Goodwin's plan for best 22 then the club should help him move on for the extra years and trust the process with Lockhart etc

Imagine if Jetta does go we'd retain Jones for leadership.

One of my all-time favourite Dees.
Whilst speed was never his strength, what little he had, seems to have gone.

If Collingwood are offering more years, I certainly wouldn't begrudge him leaving.  A great servant to the club who has played many years on little money; he needs to look after himself and his family for the final years of his career.

☝️This, my favourite player because of the tenacious way he has carved out his career.

Neville's been on our list 12 years. He has played more than 16 games in a year 3 times, and more than 9 games in a year 6 times, for an average of 12 games a year. Realistically we would be lucky to get half a dozen games out of him next year.

He absolutely squeezed everything out of his ability in 2016 - 2018 when he was close to the best small defender in the competition, but that was a long time ago now. He is slow, lacking in confidence, and his teammates don't trust him with the ball.

Neville is a great person and a great leader, but the only way he should be at the club next year is in an off field role. If Collingwood want to give him a multiple year deal, good luck to him and them.

This club needs to collectively put on its big boy pants and start making some tough decisions around players who won't contribute next year (see also Kolodjashnij and Nietschke).

I don’t want him playing for us next year yet alone 2022.

But I want him at club in some capacity.

Sadly if he gets a 2 year deal from Collingwood I have no idea how we balance those two factors. We have to give him our blessing.

Jetta's situation is an example of why clubs need certainty on list sizes, salary cap and soft cap limits not just for 2021 but for subsequent years. How can the club know whether it might be possible to keep him for a playing or non-playing role when we don't yet have certainty? Would an off-field role have to be at the expense of somebody else's job, and if so, who?

For Collingwood is it all about the off field or do they think they can do something with his body to turn back the clock?

This year he looked too lean to me. Like they tried to get him really fit which isn’t his go. He’s a back pocket nugget full of explosive power, he’ll never be a good endurance player who runs both ways.

Has Burgo tried to get him too fit at the expense of the way he plays the game?

DEE-RUBBING by George on the Outer

For the second week in a row, the Demons had to endure some particularly oppressive match conditions — this time, playing in 30 degree temperatures at the MCG, following the humid sticky Sydney atmosphere of last week.   The warmer conditions didn’t seem to worry the Dee’s since the ball was so much easier to handle, and handle it with surety they did in handing out a 45 point drubbing to the much fancied Western Bulldogs.   After a slow start that saw the Dogs out to

CROSSING THE PICKETT LINE by The Oracle

Melbourne’s performance in losing its Round Zero contest in Sydney has certainly caused the club, the coach and the players to come firmly under the watchful eye of the football world and exposed all of its aspects to a microscopic lens.   Much of the commentary surrounding them has been less than complimentary and, while some might argue that this is unfair after only one round, leaving aside some of the scuttlebutt that surrounds a lot of the discussion around the game, a fair amoun
