It's been put to me that tonight's game is all about whether Melbourne’s players can positively put into effect the learnings that have been pumped into them since they bowed out of season 2018.

Pickett to kick 3 off a break. Dees by 26 at quarter time, what happens in the next 3 quarters is anyone’s guess though.

I don't give a [censored] anymore. no amount of good games will make up for last week's disgrace.

Will our periphery, C and probably B players have a big mpact and not just perform the roles adequately.

Would love to see some strong developmental progress in these players.

Hoping the mids continue to score goals.

Expecting our forwards to perform with conversions and straight kicking.

Melky and Hunt to to get a handful of goal assists each.

Bedford and Pickett to give headaches, at the feet of Weids and Preuss to the opposition.

Backline struggled for one of the rare times last week. Can't see it happening two weeks in a row.

Gawn and Viney to get their synchronisity right.

Vanders to kill someone (sorry just joking), to straight line a few with his tackling. Amazed Mihochek played this week.

Hoping for consistency with at least three goals a quarter.

I wish I could say no turnovers or brain fades but I am not so confident.

Switch on Dees.

No matter how disappointed we feel, being made to  arrive  by plane 3 hours  before the game,  in cairns,  is tough.it clearly affected them .  Following that w  a 4 day turnaround, also  in the heat of cairns is again really tough. This is going to be a  close game imo with Goody bringing out his “ only use in case of emergency” players.
personally aside from a win, I’d love to see a real  “re emergence” performance from Hunt, love the 2 rucks experiment to work, Bedford to show his wares and fritta to kick straight.

Anyone else get the impression from Goodwin yesterday that the club doesn't think it will play finals?  Three things I noticed:

1. He started talking of the condensed fixture, travel, Alice, late arrival at Gazaly and conditions.  It was like excuses are in the pipeline.

2. When asked about focusing at this intense time he talked about the opportunity for the club to grow, to develop, to continue to evolve, to be consistent and that is our aim.  Lots of teams vying for finals and we want to use it as an opportunity to get better.  No sense of expectation to play in finals.  Hardly filled me with confidence.

3. When asked about the list he talked 'this year is about building ourselves up' and play in some games that will define us 'whether we play finals or not'

4. Selections.

Have very little confidence in a win tonight.

Kev you sure that's not a subliminal rehash of a performance from an intra practice match you witnessed recently?

Goodwin has the worst job in football, trying to extract consistent performance form this mob.

If you were an aspiring or experienced AFL coach and Pert whispered “Come coach the Demons..?”, you’d run a mile.

Tonight... roll a dice.

Go Dees ?

Some kind of flow, some connection, some tackling ,some intuition, some dash.

Give us something.

When we were up and about in 2018 there was a a Goodwin mantra about being in "the moment" which seems to have disappeared.

Where there''s life there's hope they ....... well MFC is certainly capable of putting that theory away ...... and very quickly!

The selectors made a statement but ...... I'm not sure what it means.

Brown out - stiff I reckon.

Kossie in - We just need to see a bit more bang  for all his flash

Two ruckman- could work. It means we can glug up their forward line if required or, have another scoring option!

GO DEES .. Keep the Hope alive !!!

Well this is quite a situation, I’m torn. I’m supposed to be gouging my eyes out with a blunt stick tonight but the Demons are playing......... what to do?

That's easy coach.

You'll get to do both!

I agree.  I thought we were slow and had no intensity.  Kane Cornes highlighted the off the ball jogging and refusal to chase or put yourself into the zone.  Did Goodwin even motivate or prepare them.

Today had better be a different mindset.

It's pretty much an elimination final tonight.

Win and we're still alive.

Lose and we're pretty much done for.

I like the changes - it doesn't give me the impression of desperation as such.  It's our third game in less than two weeks, we have injuries to deal with a players out of form.  It's a different season so, to me, seven changes makes some sense when you consider what is going on.

I'm backing us in for win (when don't I), but I'm doing so without any real confidence.  Bedford and Pickett to kick five between them.

We will win tonight. If for nothing more than it keeps 5 teams playing for 3 spots in the 8 instead of 4. Gil wants the 8 decided on the last day.

I know it is only 8.28 am Clint but that must be the most desperate reason for a win we are likely to see!

    TRAINING: Wednesday 5th February 2025

Demonland Trackwatchers were out in force as the Demons returned to Gosch's Paddock for preseason training on Wednesday morning. GHOSTWRITER'S PRESEASON TRAINING OBSERVATIONS Kozzie a no show. Tommy Sparrow was here last week in civvies and wearing sunnies. He didn’t train. Today he’s training but he’s wearing goggles so he’s likely got an eye injury. There’s a drill where Selwyn literally lies on top of Tracc, a trainer dribbles the ball towards them and Tracc has to g

THAT WAS THE YEAR THAT WAS: 2024

Whichever way you look at it, the Melbourne Football Club’s 2024 season can only be characterized as the year of its fall from grace. Whispering Jack looks back at the season from hell that was. After its 2021 benchmark premiership triumph, the men’s team still managed top four finishes in the next two seasons but straight sets finals losses consigned them to sixth place in both years. The big fall came in 2024 with a collapse into the bottom six and a 14th placing. At Casey, the 2022 VFL p

    TRAINING: Wednesday 15th January 2025

There were a number of Demonland Trackwatchers at Gosch's Paddock this morning to bring you their observations from Preseason Training. KEV MARTIN'S PRESEASON TRAINING OBSERVATIONS They were going hard at each other. The sims were in two 15 minute blocks. The second block finished a few minutes early, they gathered and had another 7 minutes at it. I think they were asked to compete, as they would play against an opposition. There was plenty of niggle, between some of them. At the end o

Better late than never … and quite frankly, there’s very little to report other than that training took place at Casey Fields this morning, that Tracc was there nursing his rib injury and that some photographs are on the club’s social media including this one of Clarrie in Raging Bull stance that gives rise for confidence. The other news is that the club has a new train on player in 185cm Dandenong Stingrays midfielder Noah Hibbins-Hargreaves (love the hyphenated name which is just so fitti

Welcome back to Demonland for those like me who have been on vacation. I’m posting this with some trepidation because of a certain amount of uncertainty surrounding the return of preseason training in 2025 after a flurry of weddings including those of our coach, one of our superstar players and a former premiership champion player and bloke, not to mention the recent mysterious incident that occurred on the Mornington Peninsula.  I believe that the team reassembles this morning at Casey Fie
