Dawes, Trengove, Newton, Pedersen, Matt Jones, Terlich, and the rookies King, White and Michie.

JKH contracted for 2017.

No disrespect to those nine, but god it's nice to be approaching the offseason with no players in our best 22 out of contract.

Tom and Oscar McDonald are managed by Alex McDonald, the brother of James and Anthony McDonald.

Old McDonald had a farm, ee-i-ee-i-o, and on that farm he bred plenty of McDonalds ...

Great news. The club has huge raps on Oscar so it will be "watch this space" over the preseason to see how he develops physically, and in terms of footy nouse. Both these boys are capable of thevery best and the very worst but their best is very, very good.

Great news. Now someone get Oscar twenty pies and five snot blocks. Looking at that picture, he couldn't knock the skin off a rice pudding

OMac's got a good frame on him- will be a big boy in two years.

Great news!!

Ideal world 3-4 years for Tom but hopefully there are triggers for an extension.

Hopefully GNF's info on Hogan is on point and this will be the first offseason I don't have to agonise about our players leaving!

Well done MFC. Classy year all round.

Now for the sweetest two words in the English language to come to fruition... mathematical possibility....

I think you're right. I hope you're right. Would solve some problems when we come up against those big forwards.

Would definitely look to give Pederson at least another year. He's been a handy player for us over the journey and he is decent depth considering our lack of versatile talls.

Tom, in particular, would have been in high demand outside the MFC, but he chose to remain a Demon.  That, in itself, is a huge tick for our Club, and a sign of where he thinks we are heading.

Excellent.

Tim Watson thought the Bombers were a chance at getting T  mac LOL

We will take Hurley as a DFA now, thanks Timmy.

Tim Watson is a dithering fool who makes wild statements to mask his own deficiencies and ineptitude.

and well done Mc Bros, I reckon that's awesome news for the club!

Great stuff from both of them! OMac was pretty scratchy for a while there (understandable he is still developing) but he has definitely been improving in recent weeks.

TMac I never really thought he was going to leave, even though he put off the contract talks I think it was to gauge the clubs development before deciding. Hard to argue with how we're going now! If he can get rid of his brain farts he would be an excellent player for us, as it is he is still very important and he's in Red and Blue for another 2 years.

Not to ruin the moment but anyone else find TMac's choice of the 2 year deal surprising?

LIVE AND LET DIE by Meggs

The Demons’ impressive late season charge to finals will most likely come unstuck this Saturday evening when the Bombers blow up the also-ran Blues in the Ikon Park double-header.   To mangle McCartney, what does it matter to ya? To have any chance to play next week Narrm has got a job to do and needs to do it well.  We’ve got to give the Pie sheilas hell, say live and let die! It’s Indigenous Round for this game and the chance to celebrate and engage with Aboriginal and Torres

Failed to fulfill the promise of his breakout six goal effort against the Tigers in 2023 and was generally disappointing as a key forward. It remains to be seen whether Simon Goodwin will persevere with him in attack or return him to the backline where he was an important cog in the club’s 2021 premiership success. After a bright start to the season, playing mostly in defence, Howes seemed to lose his way in midseason but fought back with some good performances at Casey and finished the year back at AFL level. Originally an NBL basketballer with the Brisbane Bullets, he moved across town in 2019 to the AFL Lions where he played 19 games before crossing to Melbourne where he was expected to fill a role as a back up ruckman/key forward. Sadly, had to wrap up a great career in midstream on the back of multiple concussions which culminated in the Maynard hit in the 2023 Qualifying Final. His loss to the club was inestimable over and above his on field talent given his character and leadership qualities, all of which have been sorely missed. The son of former Demon Brownlow Medalist Shane, Taj added a further 16 games to his overall tally of games but a number were as substitute.
