Your surprise packet for 2016

I'll back ANB to play round 1 and only lose his spot through injury. I was pretty impressed with what he achieved given his pre and early season setbacks. I like when kids just look like they belong straight up. They don't need to get a heap of it early on like say Gysberts but instead show clean hands, enjoy the physicality and adjust to the pace quickly. Viney, Salem and Hogan have all done exactly that in recent times. I'd add ANB to that list. He just looks a footballer.

I think Salem will take his game to another level this year. I think he will be like Luke Hodge ... but with more demerit points :)

I think Harmes will be a gun next year, after seeing him in that last game against GWS clunking those big pack marks , and just his aggression and appetite for the ball and the contest....reckon he could be something special.

Harmes or Oscar Mac - can't decide between the two so I hope both of them. Harmes was a huge surprise for me late last year, and CHF remains wide open for us and Oscar looks like a prime candidate.

I'm not necessarily expecting it but I'm hoping Max King comes on with a few leaps and bounds.

We know he has good hands and neat kicking skills. At 200cm he can fill in that important mobile tall forward cum 2nd relief ruck role.

If, and yes it is a big if, he could become a vital cog in our next finals side

(nice thread too)

Chris Dawes to have a break-out season with 26 goals.

Lel. And a couple of marks out in front. In all seriousness, seems to be a champion fella but he is frustrating to watch.

Surprise packet - really hoping JKH brings some consistent form and really builds on the promise of a couple of years ago.

Harmes as the surprise package. Love the way he gets his head over it and tracks the ball in a contest. I still think Melksham could be a really good player this year. He is one player who does not get phased about playing Hawthorn.

My Tip is Hunt.

With his injuries behind him I expect him to have a big pre-season and break into the side round 8. His speed and a goal a game from the wing will see him keep his spot for the rest of the season.

Not really a surprise packet but I'm really looking forward to big Maxy Gawn maintaining the rage and having a stellar season.

2024 Player Reviews: #1 Steven May

The years are rolling by but May continued to be rock solid in a key defensive position despite some injury concerns. He showed great resilience in coming back from a nasty rib injury and is expected to continue in that role for another couple of seasons. 2024 Player Reviews: #4 Judd McVee

It was another strong season from McVee who spent most of his time mainly at half back but he also looked at home on a few occasions when he was moved into the midfield. There could be more of that in 2025. 2024 Player Reviews: #3 Christian Salem

The luckless Salem suffered a hamstring injury against the Lions early in the season and, after missing a number of games, he was never at his best. He was also inconvenienced by minor niggles later in the season. This was a blow for the club that sorely needed him to fill gaps in the midfield at times as well as to do his best work in defence. The first round draft pick at #13 from twelve months ago the strongly built medium forward has had an impressive introduction to AFL football and is expected to spend more midfield moments as his career progresses.
