Posting unsubstantiated rumours on this website is strictly forbidden.

Demonland has made the difficult decision to not permit this platform to be used to discuss & debate the off-field issues relating to the Melbourne Football Club including matters currently being litigated between the Club & former Board members, board elections, the issue of illicit drugs in footy, the culture at the club & the personal issues & allegations against some of our players & officials ...

We do not take these issues & this decision lightly & of course we believe that these serious matters affecting the club we love & are so passionate about are worthy of discussion & debate & I wish we could provide a place where these matters can be discussed in a civil & respectful manner.

However these discussions unfortunately invariably devolve into areas that may be defamatory, libelous, spread unsubstantiated rumours & can effect the mental health of those involved. Even discussion & debate of known facts or media reports can lead to finger pointing, blame & personal attacks.

The repercussion is that these discussions can open this website, it’s owners & it’s users to legal action & may result in this website being forced to shutdown.

Our moderating team are all volunteers & cannot moderate the forum 24/7 & as a consequence problematic content that contravenes our rules & standards may go unnoticed for some time before it can be removed.

We reserve the right to delete posts that offend against our above policy & indeed, to ban posters who are repeat offenders or who breach our code of conduct.

WE HAVE BUILT A FANTASTIC ONLINE COMMUNITY AT DEMONLAND OVER THE PAST 23 YEARS & WE WOULD LIKE TO CONTINUE TO BE ABLE TO DISCUSS THE CLUB WE LOVE & ARE SO PASSIONATE ABOUT.

AS I wrote, yes, we are the pawns of the AFL: witness Pickett getting a week for a bump to  Cripps which connected with his shoulder, then, yes, I know, Cripps turned, Pickett's shoulder continued  and poor Cripps's nose was affected. It was called once a Footy Action...

As far as Depth Cover and I alluded to this - we have that aplenty back of centre, but it's hard when the depth cover for the loss of McDonald, Fritsch, Melksham, JRV, Petty, Brown, and earlier in the year, Smith, was Schache...

And I totally agree about the Geelong Bull...t.

So why not defend Pickett even to make a point?

I’m curious- can those who are concerned about potentially losing JJ please inform me about what we would lose. I don’t see speed, good overhead mark, penetrating kicks, or a good defensive forward - what am I missing?

I'd be very surprised if some are still concerned especially after last night's performance.

We should be better kicking for goal.  We were much improved moving the ball inside 50 last night but shouldn’t only pull that out in a sudden death final. We need coaches who really want to sort these 2 things out.

Goal kicking really gives me the sh&ts.  As players are running in its obvious they will miss.  As soon as Max started running towards the point post I knew he would miss. Kossie kicks well when he gets good momentum like his second shot.  His first was not his routine.  When Tracc walks in you know he will miss as he leans back.  It’s unprofessional that they and the coaches have not done enough quality goal kicking practice to get their routines nailed down so they can produce under pressure like the last 2 weeks.  The fact we have arguably lost at least 3 and maybe 4 of our finals due to poor goal kicking is a blight on Goody.

To go well in 2024 the club has to stay off   demonland and not buy into supporters excuses about injuries being why we lost. We had all our superstars. WCE got it done without 3 injured All Australians (6xAA between them) in 2018. If the club accepts excuses like injuries then we won’t address the issues in our control.  There needs to be a serious effort to address our goal kicking and our attacking game plan. Our defensive game is elite.

No issue with your views on goal-kicking.

But just because West Coast in 2018 won the flag without Naitanui, Gaff and Sheppard doesn't mean every club with injuries should be able to win the flag forever more.

A key difference between their three injuries and ours was that ours all impacted the same end of the ground, which happened to be our weakest part of the ground in the first place.

I know in times of disappointment/anger, many don't like hearing about injuries (or luck, or umpiring, or these sorts of things) but they all played a role. There can't be any doubt that losing Petty, Melksham and JVR (the latter through his own clumsy fault) in a season where TMac, Brown and Fritsch had all spent months out with injury made our chances worse.

His VFL midfield games have been really strong, with inside and outside ball winning, goal kicking and controlling the contest.

He’s still really young and has the kind of big body that will keep getting stronger and more powerful until he’s 25. Has a huge tank.

I’m not overly worried about losing him because right now he’s probably only depth and we need to use the assets in other areas, but there’s a decent chance he still becomes a good mid once he’s played there for a consistent period.

If he goes to the Saints he could be turned in to a solid tagger or defensive winger by Ross the boss.

This is what dreams are made of... but hard to see how we could get either of Lynch or Naughton.

Do not want either, one sulks too easily and the other only wants to jump on peoples heads. Forget the magic "expensive" recruit  !!!

ANd forget about Lever as Captain. He would be waving instructions to everyone and sometimes doesn't follow them himself

Clarrie, like JV, is a genuine on field leader but lovely guys as they are, we need an articulate captain (as Max has been).

Blaming luck is an easy way out. 2 absolutely wrong ARCs against Carlton , continually shoddy umpiring. And the games we lost with the disgusting sub standard kicking - that’s not luck

I’ll give you the injuries though

where’s the depth cover ?

Also demand that umpire 22 never gets a game against us again.

Naughton is a horribly unreliable kick for goal and people wanting Harry McKay please spare us the pain. He misses shots from the friggin goal square & hooks the ball worse than Max.

Surely they would be brilliant set shots after attending the MFC Mark Williams goal kicking academy. 🙄

Our really important players all played. Against the blues 3 games ago Melk and JVR didn’t kick a goal between them from 6 and 7 disposals, so how can we claim their absence was the reason we lost when Smith kicked 3? And Petty needs a full season up forward.  He had one and a half good games up forward this season, so no history to give you confidence he would deliver in finals. We can agree to disagree.

You may notice I didn't say that.

I said the absence of Petty, Melksham and JVR made our chances worse, on the back of Fritsch, TMac and Brown missing months of football (and in Brown's case, never getting back).

I've posted elsewhere that there are multiple issues which contributed to our loss last night and our season ending the way it did. Injuries were one of them. I don't really think there's much of an argument to the contrary.

Would love to see the Demons try and target Josh Sinn from Port Adelaide.

He would be an excellent replacement for the retiring Michael Hibberd.

Overall though, I would like to see the Football Department do a highly in-depth review so that the Demons can improve for season 2024 and beyond. Gotta aim to win another Premiership!

You are kidding mate.  This team although inaccurate absolutely give their all every week and there is no way people can question their effort.  They are a brutal footy team and we just need a key forward.   A fit Petty will slot in down back again next year and if we can wrench a ready made power forward from somewhere to stand with JVR we will back bigger than better

I’m not kidding myself. Where as the captains goal when needed Friday? Some of these “premiership” players absolutely [censored] themselves in front of goal. Misses from dead in front and 45 degree angles. Not good enough.

Some won’t like it but one thing we need more of is luck - the Petty and Melksham injuries were devastating for our season.

As for things in our control:

1. Rivers to the midfield

2. Another wing to put selection pressure on Langdon and Hunter

3. A tall forward who can lead at the ball carrier and kick straight

4. A re-think of the way we move the ball in order to generate easier shots on goal given our personnel

5. More Woewodin, Laurie, and other new faces

6. And we need to work on how we start quarters. We give up the first 1-3 goals of quarters too much (tonight they scored first in each of the second, third and fourth. Last week Coll scored first in the first, second and third - same as Sydney the week before).

Good call.

I hate to say it but we lack depth.

And while we have been unlucky with fwd line injuries, bbb, tmac and milk are all over 30, so some of them should have been anticipated.

There are players like Salo and Langdon that should have been dropped but I'm not sure we had players to replace them.

A number of exits for me.

Grundy whose probably gone anyway.

Tmac.

Schache.

Bbb.

So yea we need some talls asap.

And a ruck.

LEADERS OF THE PACK by The Oracle

I was asked to write a preview of this week’s Round 8 match between Melbourne and Geelong. The two clubs have a history that goes right back to the time when the game was starting to become an organised sport but it’s the present that makes the task of previewing this contest so interesting. Both clubs recently reached the pinnacle of the competition winning premiership flags in 2021 and 2022 respectively, but before the start of this season, many good judges felt their time had passed - n

Demonland Trackwatcher Kev Martin was on hand at Gosch's Paddock for Monday's training session and made the following observations. DISCO INFERNO by Whispering Jack

Two weeks ago, when the curtain came down on Melbourne’s game against the Brisbane Lions, the team trudged off the MCG looking tired and despondent at the end of a tough run of games played in quick succession. In the days that followed, the fans wanted answers about their team’s lamentable performance that night and foremost among their concerns was whether the loss was a one off result of fatigue or was it due to other factor(s) of far greater consequence.  As it turns out, the answer to

TIGERS PUNT CASEY by KC from Casey

The afternoon atmosphere at the Swinburne Centre was somewhat surreal as the game between Richmond VFL and the Casey Demons unfolded on what was really a normal work day for most Melburnians. The Yarra Park precinct marched to the rhythm of city life, the trains rolled by, pedestrians walked by with their dogs and the traffic on Punt Road and Brunton Avenue swirled past while inside the arena, a football battle ensued. And what a battle it was? The Tigers came in with a record of two wins f
