Discussion on recent allegations about the use of illicit drugs in football is forbidden
  • IMPORTANT: PLEASE READ BEFORE POSTING

Posting unsubstantiated rumours on this website is strictly forbidden.

Demonland has made the difficult decision to not permit this platform to be used to discuss & debate the off-field issues relating to the Melbourne Football Club including matters currently being litigated between the Club & former Board members, board elections, the issue of illicit drugs in footy, the culture at the club & the personal issues & allegations against some of our players & officials ...

We do not take these issues & this decision lightly & of course we believe that these serious matters affecting the club we love & are so passionate about are worthy of discussion & debate & I wish we could provide a place where these matters can be discussed in a civil & respectful manner.

However these discussions unfortunately invariably devolve into areas that may be defamatory, libelous, spread unsubstantiated rumours & can effect the mental health of those involved. Even discussion & debate of known facts or media reports can lead to finger pointing, blame & personal attacks.

The repercussion is that these discussions can open this website, it’s owners & it’s users to legal action & may result in this website being forced to shutdown.

Our moderating team are all volunteers & cannot moderate the forum 24/7 & as a consequence problematic content that contravenes our rules & standards may go unnoticed for some time before it can be removed.

We reserve the right to delete posts that offend against our above policy & indeed, to ban posters who are repeat offenders or who breach our code of conduct.

WE HAVE BUILT A FANTASTIC ONLINE COMMUNITY AT DEMONLAND OVER THE PAST 23 YEARS & WE WOULD LIKE TO CONTINUE TO BE ABLE TO DISCUSS THE CLUB WE LOVE & ARE SO PASSIONATE ABOUT.

Thank you for your continued support & understanding. Go Dees.

I think you could get a stronger first round selection than 20 odd. I agree with dazzle this isn’t done but I think we are in the window and letting an all Australian calibre player walk out of the club for less than he’s worth would be regrettable.

his value is arguably closer to a top 10 pick and just because clubs don’t match typically doesn’t mean we shouldn’t. Unless the offer is enormous, I’d match and put it back on the team to get a deal done.

Freo demanded and got pick 2 for Lachie Weller.

Completely untrue.

I have been told that until Jackson makes a decision than they have no more money to up their offer to Gus.  Don’t forget Gus is on an incredibly high contract that he signed in the year he came 3rd in the Brownlow.

Do we know how much Gus is on? Gun midfielders tend to get paid more than wingers or backs.

So if we are asking him to take a pay cut for doing the team thing by playing in positions where we have a greater need for him rather than his supposedly favourite position in midfield it not to difficult to see why he’s look at his options.
It’s a complicated situation as I don’t thinks it’s a simple as wait until Jackson deal goes through so we can offer him more money. For example as a winger is he worth more than Langdon ? Or worth more as a half back than Salem? Will he be more important to our backline over the next few seasons than Petty?

If we offer a bigger contract then it might have a ripple effect over the next few years,  it also shows other player at the club that it is worth playing the long game to squeeze as much as possible out of the club.
I love Gus and think he will stay but I’m not as certain as I was before.

Edit. Lord Nev says he’s currently under $600 which should mean he would not be taken a pay cut.

Gus and Jacko have the same Manager. He knows the state of play.

Jacko leaves and Gus stays on probably a 5 year deal.

And possibly an extra 50 or 100K per annum.

If Your in the shoes of Gus with concussion history a longer term deal would be high on wanted list.

Going to another Vic team, he might get midfield and a bit more cash, but walks away from his leadership position at Demons, friendships, relationships, success, then has to restart at a new club.

Because our cap won’t allow us to match the offer

But with Jackson one foot out the door, we will have a budgeted 600-800k per year freed up. We allegedly could fit both in our cap earlier in the year and now we can't fit either? Doesn't sound right.

Obviously wants best for both clients but they're sort of intertwined together, so curious how it plays out.

Not sure how client confidentiality works in that field, but wonder what information/if any he is giving to both players in relation to the other player. Although guess it may be somewhat obvious based on offers going back and forth.

Picks 10-12 could deliver a player like Lucas Cook, Gysberts, Weideman or Clark

Busts are a part of drafting and need to be factored in.  Doing so (factoring in the busts) is good business practice

In a general sense draft picks are severely overrated ... and the points system adds fuel to the fire

If it comes to it I'd want a pick around the 6-8 mark for Brayshaw

And that pick has a 50% chance of being a bust anyway

That's the truth and that's what the data tells us (historically)

I’ve had enough of this.

Its time the club wrote to each member and explained their tactical position on these signatures.

Am I seriously supposed to be enjoying the race to the finals while all this commotion is going on.?

Leaving Melbourne  - yes,  staying in Melb but leaving the Dees - very real threat.

And a pick around the 20 mark might deliver players such as Tapscott, Blease, Maric or Strauss (for a proven player like Brayshaw)

Hope you enjoy that little flashback, folks! haha

I 100% agree here, once its known Jackson is gone Gus will sign with a little extra in him pocket. and he is worth it.

give him 150k more year just to make sure he doesn't put on a Red and Black Guernsey,  i couldn't handle that!

I’d also not underestimate the fact that the media got hold of Gus meeting with Essendon. Often these things are leaked by player managers to put pressure on the club to up the offer.

this one sends a clear message to the dees that Gus wants to stay in Victoria but you’re going to have to up the offer on the table

the media are very loose with their wording and love ambiguity

Gus doesn’t strike me as the kind of person to leave the MFC just for the money. To me it would be virtually all about the opportunity to play the role that he feels best suits him. If MFC are not going to give him that opportunity, then why wouldn’t you look around? With the wealth of talent we have down back, I cannot understand why Gus hasn’t been given a shot in the middle - particularly last week with Oliver out. If mid time opportunity is his beef, then I’d say last week would have been a knife in the back. I’d suggest that Gus is a much better all round player now than when he came 3rd in the Brownlow back in 2018, and as such, would be much better equipped to lift our dismal clearance numbers. So give him a go in the center Goody,  what have you got to lose? (Other than Gus).

All the draftees tried their best ... but that's the vagaries of drafting

Since that time we've done extra well

It's a bit like betting on the horses!

So you think we might be due a bust 'Macca'????

Best we put our chips on tried and proven if we get some draft capital this year...

    DISCO INFERNO by Whispering Jack

Two weeks ago, when the curtain came down on Melbourne’s game against the Brisbane Lions, the team trudged off the MCG looking tired and despondent at the end of a tough run of games played in quick succession. In the days that followed, the fans wanted answers about their team’s lamentable performance that night and foremost among their concerns was whether the loss was a one off result of fatigue or was it due to other factor(s) of far greater consequence.  As it turns out, the answer to

TIGERS PUNT CASEY by KC from Casey

The afternoon atmosphere at the Swinburne Centre was somewhat surreal as the game between Richmond VFL and the Casey Demons unfolded on what was really a normal work day for most Melburnians. The Yarra Park precinct marched to the rhythm of city life, the trains rolled by, pedestrians walked by with their dogs and the traffic on Punt Road and Brunton Avenue swirled past while inside the arena, a football battle ensued. And what a battle it was? The Tigers came in with a record of two wins f

It's Game Day and the Demons once again open the round of football with their annual clash against Richmond on ANZAC Eve. The Tigers, coached by former Dees champion and Premiership assistant coach Adem Yze have a plethora of stars missing due to injury but beware the wounded Tiger. The Dees will have to be switched on tonight. A win will keep them in the hunt for the Top 4 whilst a loss could see them fall out of the 8 for the first time since 2020.

There’s a touch of irony in the fact that Adem Yze played his first game for Melbourne in Round 13, 1995 against the club he now coaches. For that game, he wore the number 44 guernsey and got six touches in a game the team won by 11 points.  The man whose first name was often misspelled, soon changed to the number 13 and it turned out lucky for him. He became a highly revered Demon with a record of 271 games during which his presence was acknowledged by the fans with the chant of “Oozee” wh
