Both.

Ox or Neita at their best would have added heaps to our current side. After a flip of a coin i choose The Ox but it could have been either.

I am surprised that David Neitz wasn't selected earlier. Just imagine having a player like that to go forward or back and improve both ends.

Plus 300 games and captain.

What a Legend.

Absolutely a legend Fork.

When I was a kid and had just moved up from Melb to Qld I went into my local Sportsco and  wore my Dees jersey with number 2 on my back and an older fella came up to me and asked how long had I followed the Dees. My answer was naturally, all my life. He proceeded to tell me that he new Robbie and I asked how and he said he was his brother, James.

What a small world it is. He then asked me if I wanted a job at sportsco which I said hell yeah.

Funny how things turn out.

There'd be 'better' players, but geez, imagine a forward line mix featuring Brown, TMac, Kozzy, Fritsch and Jurrah..

Ooft.

Wow!  I’d forgotten how much magic Liam Jurrah  produced in his short career!  Unbelievable raw talent!

I just wanna correct your first sentence. One Best and Fairest and Two All Australians makes him the most Underrated player I know to have ever worn the Red and Blue. And he would of slaughtered today's game.

What an absurd comment. I wasn't around during Flower's time but he was considered an all-time great long before his death, so no one has started to 'overrate' him.

Having a controversial opinion doesn't always make you right.

Actually, the exact opposite is true FV. I saw most of Robbie's games live and he played in diabolical sides at times. His greatness was that he had SFA around him and was often the creator, hard-ball getter and finisher in the same passage of play. Keith Greg was a great player and won two Brownlows in good sides with wonderful players shovelling it out to him. Flower was better IMHO. He would be at least as good today. Arguably, he'd be better protected by the White Rabbits and his creativity and devastatingly good disposal would be supported by the hard nuts (i.e. Viney, Clarry, Harma, Hibba, Brayshaw etc.) getting it out to him. Think The Bont on steroids!

I'd rather think Rob on steroids! I regard State games and finals as the benchmark of penultimate performance. Ask guys like Wayne Shimulbusch who his hardest opponent was and you get Robert Flower. Add a few hybrid international games and what you get is

1 Many Best on grounds in State games

2 9 goals in 3 Finals and in best players

3 Best on ground in International games

Leaving aside his Stellar contributions in club games in garbage teams, that makes it

BANG, BANG ,BANG

GAME ,SET, MATCH!!!

The can’t have won a flag criteria may count Ronald Dale out of this discussion, particularly as he has 10. Isn’t having ten premierships to your name just extraordinary. Mind blowing really

RDB and Norm 10 each (Norm all at the Demons).

Any other players/coaches achieve this feat? I think Jock McHale coached 8 flags not sure if he won any as a player.

To answer the question, Jakovich. He was mercurial when he was on and the most excited I have ever been about a Demons player (considering I was 9 when he debuted).

There's no real wrong answer tho, Wiz, Schwarta, Lyon, Robbie, Davey, Jurrah, Stinger, Jimmy all great picks - we've had some magnificent players at the club over the years even if they never achieved the ultimate success.

Would be interesting seeing Grinter go around these days I wonder how many games he'd actually get to play 🤣. Many forget he was actually a pretty handy player due to his reputation.

Many on here refer to how "...good so and so would be oppsoite Ed Langdons wing...". (esp Robbie F)

We have the Robbie Flower wing (MCC side) at the G, but at games we now talk about the Ed Langdon wing (AFL Stand side).

He's made it his own, and as he's admitted as he doesn't come off during games he doesn't need to play on the side closer to the bench.  Good for efficiency of team rotations too.

One of the benefits of sitting in the AFL Members we get to sit on Lingers Wing

Healy these days seems to have no time for the Mighty Demons...... as for Scully, he did us big time...

Wrong he is very IMO on the Couch referring to us. They almost weekly have a 3/4 minute chat about Dees.

I can't understand some fans say Gerard hates us that is so untrue.

A commentator is supposed to be fair and inquisitive and that furs to mean he hates some one or some thing.

Leaving the greatest Demon out, if Allen Jacovich was playing in this side, he would kick 100 in a season, while eating his Big Mac meal during the game.

Clearly several of the Demon stars of years gone by would be as good, if not better in this current team.

One of the most pleasing things for me is the depth in this squad. I can’t recall this quality of depth in the last 50 years. Thank you Jason Taylor, one of the best recruits ever to the Dees.

4HANDS you may well have, but you sure don't have any football brains. To say he wouldn't stand a chance today is utter rubbish and in no way is Robbie  being judged any more favourably because he is deceased.

Robbie is our best player from 1960 on for the last 62 years ( some in our team now are coming fast but will be judged from say 2024 as I believe RDBarassi was our best in years 1897 - 1960.

At the moment Clarry Trac and Gawny will fight out the best early on in the 2024 onwards. Trac or Clarry could easily be judged our best ever if they play 10/12 years and are in 3/4 Flag winning teams.

Unfortunately Robbie never had that privilege like our pre 1960 heroes in our first 60 odd years but his class was indisputable. His overall competitive effect on a game was massive and he kicked consistently multiple goals ( like Trac) in many big games and finals as well.

While we debate individuals I think we really are still not realising how good a season our 2021 flag heroes had.

What  a team which stands up in any test  or year as our best ever. ( or equal yo 1956) Most games won ever 20 snd a half  Finals ave winning margin 63 pts, 5 AA and 7 nominated in squad Rising  star, 2nd in Coleman Medal , 2 in top 5 ( or so) in Brownlow, McClelland Trophy, Coach of the Year and never out of the top4 in 23 rounds. All in a Covid year. And it's harder to win a Flag  now than in the 1950's, and carried the pressure of 57 years of "failure". They are indeed a very special group who  on and off the field have performed in 2021 as a well trained and professional group of young men who embraced our past and our Covid peculiarities and forged  our success and our  future path with aggression style and comradeship on another level.

Hats off to all the heroes both  players and Club officials who have set the bench mark so high.

Interested for other opinions as say 2021 vs any other year I have barracked since 1958 but are fully aware of our magnificent 1939-41 team ( stopped by war of more success I suspect) and 1954 to 1964 partly ran out of players but the self inflicted Norm Smith "curse" hangs over its sudden decline I also believe.
In no way is any of our 13 Flags more worthy than another but some are more famous or special due to times and events associated with these recognised  triumphs.

Its a bit like Tommy Smith comparing his Group1 Successes.

Do you mean despite his reputation? Rod had great skills, and was a beautiful kick. I suspect his white line fever may have been tempered somewhat in today's game.

    TROUBLE by The Oracle

Situated roughly in Australia's geographic centre, Alice Springs has for many years been a troubled town suffering from intermittent crime waves, particularly among its younger residents. There was a time a little while ago when things were so bad that some even doubted the annual AFL game in the town would proceed.  Now, the hope is that this Sunday’s Melbourne vs Fremantle encounter will bring joy to the residents of the town and that through the sport and the example of the participants,

    GALLANT by KC from Casey

The world “gallant” is not one that is readily acceptable to losing teams in our game of football so when it was used in the context of the Casey Demons’ loss to Sandringham in yesterday’s match at Casey Fields, it left a bitter taste in the mouth.  The Demons went into the game against the St Kilda affiliated Zebras with the advantage of playing on their home turf (not that this has been a major asset in 2024) and with very little else going in their favour. The Saints have close to a full

    MEANWHILE by Whispering Jack

… meanwhile, at about the same time that Narrm was putting its feet on the accelerator to obliterate the long-suffering Euro-Yroke combination, I heard someone mention in passing that Kuwarna was leading Waalitj Marawar by a whopping 46 to 1 halfway through the second quarter of their game over in Adelaide. “What is football coming to?” I asked myself.  In front of my eyes, the Demons were smashing it through the midfield, forcing turnovers and getting the footy to their forwards who w
