We do not take these issues & this decision lightly & of course we believe that these serious matters affecting the club we love & are so passionate about are worthy of discussion & debate & I wish we could provide a place where these matters can be discussed in a civil & respectful manner.

Thank you sooooo much, IHW! This is awesome. I especially love the K-Rock commentary; they didn’t even bother to hide their chagrin for Guthrie and Close. 😆

I watched the last half again last night. I was astounded at how much Neal-Bullen contributed. His hard running had him gathering possessions, tackling bodies and blocking space all over the ground. In addition, the possessions he did get were well directed to players in good positions.

It's amazing what can be seen on a second viewing.

Thanks IHW. I've bookmarked this clip. It will be playing on repeat for some time.

(P.S. Thought KROCK call was quite subdued)

Yep, ANB, Rivers and Spargo really got themselves into the game after half time. (Up until then they were in my list of possible changes for next week).

Still smiling!

Jayden is your, @Jadedand my favourite player (well for me equal #1 with Salem).

It strikes me as unusual (in a nice way) that we, the three most frequent female posters on DL have him at the top.

Desperately hoping we stay in finals long enough for him to get back.

I am sorry to break this to you guys. Jayden was my favourite player a few years ago, but us gingers must unite. Clarry is my favourite now by a long long way.

I still love Hunt though. And Eddy Langdon is definitely a favourite as well.

Fantastic! Looking at that again (for the 24th time) I just noticed Close just dawdling back while Lever was getting his 50m, could Close have been marched another 50m for not getting out of line of Lever?

It looked like a set play.  Not one of our players went near the drop of the ball keeping their opp far enough away from Max so they could not intercept or put body on him.  Max had an acre of space around him.

In the behind the goals footage I saw when O'Connor was running back inside 50 he bumped Max into the prime position for the mark on his way past to man another MFC player in the pocket.  It was sort of like "stand there Max"

So you're a ginger Jaded, should have guessed.

I actually think Lever sees Gawn pointing and kicks the ball - just as Stanley turns around - quite deliberately  if that is how it played out, that is pretty incredibly clever.

No, because the ump was saying "clear out Patrick ... clear out ... clear out Brad ..." .... coaching them on not giving away another 50!

In a fair comp where the umpires are not the players' pals, and don't have posters of them on their dunny doors, yes.

Crikey.  Could have sworn I saw Hunt listed as a fave on your profile recently.  But then again covid lockdowns have a way of messing with time.  Or maybe the image of him as the backdrop on your profile page confused me.

Love them all!!

You are correct. I recently changed. But rest assured Jayden is a well loved Melbourne player in this household.

Who was the guy on ABC chuckling at Max saying, “is he gonna miss? He’s gonna miss isn’t he.” Sounded like an absolute dope.

The K-Rock is enjoyable because you can very easily see where their allegiances lie.

Triple M was interesting because the main commentator didn’t even say he’d kicked it, left it to the female commentator to actually say it.

All very enjoyable, all pretty much agreed that i) the Brayshaw insufficient attempt was ridiculous and ii) the 50m was correct. They were all unsure about Max kicking it as well (I was with them on that!).

I don't understand why umpires tell the players the rules at all. (I'm OK with them explaining decisions - that's different.)  As one example amongst many, do players really need to be told to stay on line when kicking after the siren? (not that I heard Max being so advised - did anyone?).  However when the question is a matter of distance it does make more sense to advise a player they are getting too close.  Especially since umpires have varying ideas of what 5, 10 and 15 metres is depending on phase of the moon and other imponderables.

That was the most bizarre Melbourne forward 50 entry for the night. Behind Max as he marks it are both Rivers and May. The boys had been told late not to let them get an out number in our forward line. The entire team seemed to know what Lever was going to do, and Jordan Lewis said after the game on Fox that he knew he wouldn’t have the distance from there - and that all his teammates would have known it too.

We have played the most consistent team line up all year for this very reason. In the big moments you know what your teammates will do. Watch Lever take that huge intercept mark in the last quarter deep in defensive and he just instinctively turns 90 degrees and kick it to Salem - because he knows he’ll be there, because he always is. Brilliantly prepared.

Bingo. I noticed that too.

I've commented a few times how when I cared for the EPL - Frank Lampard would do a 45-90degree kick to Ashley Cole belting down the wing, whilst looking the other way., nailing it every time.

I assumed because of the vagaries of football, that it couldn't be done - but clearly at certain times, it can be.

*Also, watch Lever chose to deliver the ball, just as Stanley turned his head behind. Very very clever.

10 minutes into the last quarter and paddy was cramping up.  No wonder he was then off the ground for 9 minutes.  Doesn’t bode well for their finals campaign when the old guard can’t keep up for the full match.

Scott said on 360 that Danger was 'sick', inferring he may have had the poos...

Gawn raised this on the Gus and Gawny podcast. Said he caught Lever's eye, then they looked away so no-one would notice, then caught his eye just before he kicked it and knew he had a pretty good chance of marking it.

Bbb may not be smashing the scoreboard( he's going ok) but he's certainly providing a target and stopping teams from intercept marks. Made a big difference I reckon since he's been in.

Stopping intercept marks is a great point of interest and capacity that BBB brings to our team. Crumbers, be ready as hell to pick the scoring cherries that amass each recent game - we seem to have got onto three opportunities against Geelong but there were more for the taking if we were truly 'heads-up' in the forward entries. BBB will be running towards the incoming ball, most times so for the crumbers, it is less difficult to snatch a few ... in pack-mark situations, either side of the big Fella, giving him room to juggle a few times or tap on, if not fully a one-grab moment.

Nothing result in nothing game - Winner has qualifying final in Adelaide. Loser wins qualifying final in Adelaide,

or

no matter how far behind (44 points with six minutes of 3rd Q left) against last year’s Grandfinalist, at their home ground - we will never give in.
Resilience, triumph over adversity, belief and enter finals with momentum. And as 3AW said, “cometh the moment, cometh the man”.

Conventionally MFC fall into finals, relying on Fermat’s last theorem.
Feels different this time.

Weirdly, as another poster who falls in this category (although not in terms of post frequency!), I'm pretty sure I had Hunt listed in my faves at one point too. Must have been squeezed out. Although, looking at my current list, it could do with an update. It's just too hard to choose these days!

Good to see unlike the Adelaide game, when the cats player thumped the ball into the stand, 3 of our players aggressively appealed for the 50.

    MELBOURNE BUSINESS by The Oracle

In days of old, this week’s Thursday night AFL match up between the Demons and the Blues would be framed on the basis of the need to redress the fact that Carlton “stole” last year’s semi final away from Melbourne and with it, their hopes for the premiership.  A hot gospelling coach might point out to his charges that they were the better team on the night in all facets and that poor kicking for goal and a couple of lapses at the death cost them what was rightfully theirs. Moreover, now was

THE MEANING OF FOOTY by Whispering Jack

Throughout history various philosophers have grappled with the meaning of life. Aristotle, Aquinas, Kant, Nietzsche, Schopenhauer and a multitude of authors of diverse religious texts all tried. As society became more complex, the question became attached to specific endeavours in life even including sporting pursuits where such questions arose among our game’s commentariat as, “what is the meaning of football”? Melbourne coach Simon Goodwin must be tired of dealing with such a dilemma but,
