Demonland has made the difficult decision to not permit this platform to be used to discuss & debate the off-field issues relating to the Melbourne Football Club including matters currently being litigated between the Club & former Board members, board elections, the issue of illicit drugs in footy, the culture at the club & the personal issues & allegations against some of our players & officials ...

We do not take these issues & this decision lightly & of course we believe that these serious matters affecting the club we love & are so passionate about are worthy of discussion & debate & I wish we could provide a place where these matters can be discussed in a civil & respectful manner.

However these discussions unfortunately invariably devolve into areas that may be defamatory, libelous, spread unsubstantiated rumours & can effect the mental health of those involved. Even discussion & debate of known facts or media reports can lead to finger pointing, blame & personal attacks.

The repercussion is that these discussions can open this website, it’s owners & it’s users to legal action & may result in this website being forced to shutdown.

WE HAVE BUILT A FANTASTIC ONLINE COMMUNITY AT DEMONLAND OVER THE PAST 23 YEARS & WE WOULD LIKE TO CONTINUE TO BE ABLE TO DISCUSS THE CLUB WE LOVE & ARE SO PASSIONATE ABOUT.

Very pleased we have kept Baker, Dunkley, Lockhart and Chandler.

Chandler won't make it, neither will Baker, undecided on Dunkley and Lockhart maybe good depth.

Nothing pleasing there for me, very underwhelming...

Chandler, Dunkley and Lockhart are all Rookies.  The latter two weren't on AFL list at the start of the season.  They showed glimpses and would like to see what a preseason does for them.  We have plenty of Rookie spots if we want to add more so keeping them is no issue.  Rookies are a long shot at the best of times.

Don't know enough about Chandler.  Baker has been injured most of the time so too early to delist imv.

The Tigers after 2016 were criticised for not making a heap of list changes, they got in Nank, Prestia and Caddy, but at that stage they weren't seen as a massive boost (Prestia had the biggest wraps but little to no other suitors). Of course 2017 rolls around, they have a blessed run with injuries and because the group had been together they took it out.

Not saying I'm convinced but glad the club doesn't overreact like all on here. Bringing in Langdon, Tomlinson and maybe Elliot or someone else might be all we need.

Even Prestia wasn't seen as a huge signing. Huge question marks over his kicking at the time. Now set to be B&F in a flag year.

Caddy as well. Houli was on the brink. Huge question marks over Dusty resigning.

A lot more changed for Richmond that preseason than a few list changes.

While ordinarily I would agree with you. He is a quick and skillful midfielder/wing that we are playing off half back. Either play him in his best position or trade him out and upgrade talent of the list. We don't need Ollie Wines but I rate him higher than an underutilised Salem. Big club mentality is not to overrate your own players and take advantage of unexpected opportunities when they arise.

My preferred option would be to trade back what would be 3+37 to possible Geelong picks: 6 + 16. Would also look at Hunt + Salem for Wines and then trade back pick 3 for 6 + 16. Need to give something to get something.

If the coaching staff surprise me and allow Salem to have a bigger role as a mid who rests in the backline then I wouldn't trade him.

All well and good, but WTF would you trade in Wines and get rid of Salem? If you're going to trade value, trade in value. Wines is an okay player, but he doesn't address a key need. He's a contested player, with ordinary skills.

I’d take Wagner over Stretch.

So would I.

Except that Josh Wagner is a back, and Stretch is a ... well, let's say wing. If Jetta and Hibberd are unavailable, who covers for them? We have been using Lewis down there, but he's gone as well, so?

Agree.

Signing Josh Wagner to a new deal but telling Stretch he has to wait.. Stretch is far better player then Wagner. Wagner should have sat right next to Keilty and Garlett as delisted players.

Stretch played 9 games this year. both Wagners played more games than he did. plus its common knowledge we are chasing a couple of winger types this trade period, and we just signed Baker for 2 more years. so with that in mind i'm a bit surprised people think Stretch should be kept around. he had plenty of opportunity to make the wing his own, but he wasn't up to it.

Spot on, but had they made massive wholesale changes to their playing personnel would they have been able to make those other adjustments? It's A lot easier to make game plan changes when the team are already very familiar with each other.

I would have to disagree with this. Stretch played exclusively as an inside mid at Casey and would get a call-up to the seniors and be plonked on the wing or half back line or wherever there was a hole. Regardless of his ability or lack thereof, it's going to be damn hard to stake your claim on that basis. If he was going to play on the wing in the seniors, when we were crying out for wingers, why not let him play there at Casey to give him the chance to slot right in?

The main issue is his total inability to play on 'at all cost'. I have no idea why, as when it's a play on situation he has no problem at all and routinely finds an option. When he takes a mark or gets a free kick, he pretty much freezes.  Not sure why but wouldn't be surprised if it's

So the MFC hierarchy rate Josh Wagner over pick 60 something in the draft. He's never been terrible when he comes in. I can live with that.

He's been about as close to terrible as a slow limited player who doesn't hit his targets (despite being a very good kick) can be.

To me the only way to see the positives in retaining Josh Wagner is to think of him as a leader down at Casey and to recognise the club is valuing experience on the list and culture.

State of the list:

  • We have 4 senior list spots atm.  Frost, Stretch and JKH still uncontracted.

That is a potential max of 7 spots available.

  • We are obliged to take at least 3 from the draft.  It looks like Langdon and Tomlinson are over the line.

That leaves a max of 2 spots.

  • Elliot might be one.

            Leaving 1 spot.

  • Someone from GWS pick 2 split, perhaps?

I still wouldn't be surprised if we trade out a contracted player...

I thought we were obliged to turn over 3 from our list??? Could be trades, rookie upgrades or draft. Not 100% sure though.

Corey > Josh

Totally agree.

I actually think Corey could end up cementing a best 22 spot as a small foreforward.

Showed a bit this year. Competitive little bugger and is my surrounded by better players than this year could go up a level.

    MELBOURNE BUSINESS by The Oracle

In days of old, this week’s Thursday night AFL match up between the Demons and the Blues would be framed on the basis of the need to redress the fact that Carlton “stole” last year’s semi final away from Melbourne and with it, their hopes for the premiership.  A hot gospelling coach might point out to his charges that they were the better team on the night in all facets and that poor kicking for goal and a couple of lapses at the death cost them what was rightfully theirs. Moreover, now was

UNDER THE PUMP by KC from Casey

The Casey Demons have been left languishing near the bottom of the VFL table after suffering a 32-point defeat at the hands of stand alone club Williamstown at Casey Fields on Sunday. The Demons suffered a major setback before the game even started when AFL listed players Ben Brown, Marty Hore and Josh Schache were withdrawn from the selected side. Only Schache was confirmed as an injury replacement, the other two held over as possible injury replacements for Melbourne’s Thursday night fixt

THE MEANING OF FOOTY by Whispering Jack

Throughout history various philosophers have grappled with the meaning of life. Aristotle, Aquinas, Kant, Nietzsche, Schopenhauer and a multitude of authors of diverse religious texts all tried. As society became more complex, the question became attached to specific endeavours in life even including sporting pursuits where such questions arose among our game’s commentariat as, “what is the meaning of football”? Melbourne coach Simon Goodwin must be tired of dealing with such a dilemma but,

LEADERS OF THE PACK by The Oracle

I was asked to write a preview of this week’s Round 8 match between Melbourne and Geelong. The two clubs have a history that goes right back to the time when the game was starting to become an organised sport but it’s the present that makes the task of previewing this contest so interesting. Both clubs recently reached the pinnacle of the competition winning premiership flags in 2021 and 2022 respectively, but before the start of this season, many good judges felt their time had passed - n
