we got the 4 points in the end. in past years we would have let carlton run over us. The team is going in the right direction, building better cohesion, teamwork.  Still need to work on our disposals, tackling and decision making.  All in all a good win especially with Max still is a shadow of his pre-injury form, Hogan and smith first game back from injury or illness.  Next week is going to be a real test, i hope we will win, but realistically it will be difficult given the players we have out, but the team has shown it can do the unexpected. go dees.

Christian Petracca was another who slipped under the radar today, but he collected 25 possessions and 18 of these were contested as well.  I like the fact that he can get his hands dirty and not just stick to doing the flashy things.  He was in plenty today and shot out some handballs that set up a few of our goals.  He continues to come of age.

Hogan has played enough games and will be better for the run, I would've been happy for him to return through the VFL if that was his choice but he's a gun and will do better from getting the pace of AFL back in his system. 

I think it was a good move playing him further up the ground, got him more involved in the play even if he wasn't particularly great. Make him a true CHF for a while, play Pedders as a second forward and then when it looks like he's got his mojo back swap them around.

Definitely a win for perseverance. Our decision making must get better with ball in hand, almost cost us the game today. Hogan and Max will only get better.

Earlier in the game Nev was about to take a mark right in front of me in the punt rd pocket - until a melbourne player spoiled it. You should have seen his face, basically said NEVER DO THAT TO ME. Loved it.

What a win! To win such a pivotal game without 5 of our most crucial players with some of the most biased umpiring ever is remarkable. Carlton struggled when they lost one of their best minds, we did that without 4 of ours!!

The season is wide open for us now. The next two games are a free hit, win either of both and top 4 becomes likely. The next must win is North in 3 weeks and by then we will hopefully have Watts, Tyson, Salem and Jones back. Win North, Brisbane and Collingwood, play finals. We are sooo close!!

On Carlton, they are improving but are still far too reliant on Cripps, Murphy and Gibbs. Were the roles reversed today and our best in with those three absent we would've pumped them. However they did run Adelaide to within a similar margin last week having led in the last. Which bodes well for us as Adelaide had a full squad and look like they'll be without Tex.

lets not get carried away we are in the top for for maybe an hour and a half, before port push us out. we did well today despite a lot of players out, shows we have better depth than in past years. We had a few players who played poorly and we had some poor umpiring decisions. we need to play better for our remaining games to make sure we can give ourselves a top 4 spot coming into finals, we need to try to avoid as many interstate finals as possible if we are going to have a chance of getting into the grand final.

I had convinced myself we were going to lose this game going into it, so the result was pleasantly surprising. Obviously them being two rotations down in the second half affected them, even more so given one was Cripps, but we had a second/third-string midfield out there at times so it's not like we were able to take major advantage of that.

Hogan and Smith were both obviously rusty, but I thought Hogan's leading was really good and he made TMac's life a little easier.

Jetta was phenomenal, may well have saved us the game with that final effort. 

We needed a lift through the middle and we got that from Oliver and Petracca, with able support around them.

As for the leaders, Lewis made a couple of horrendous, embarrassing mistakes but he also wore immense physical pressure from them all day and took hit after hit. He put his body on the line when he needed to and he was obviously smart in that final play. Vince, on the other hand, I thought was putrid. If we had our best 22 available I don't know if I'd have Vince in the side. 

Stretch is sh*tting himself at the sight of physical pressure and it's costing us. Far too fumbly and just cannot win a hard ball. Kent improved as the game went on, I'd certainly give him another game. I also thought Wagner was much improved on last week.

Ultimately, we beat a side that is difficult to beat, at a ground we're losing at more than we're winning, with the pressure of knowing a loss would send us out of the 8, without 5 of our best 10 players. That, to me, is a huge positive, even if the quality of our performance was low.
