This concept of harmcaused being applicable to the punishment is stuffed.

Bernie gave the bloke a low impact bicep to the head. Potential for damage from bicep = [censored] all.

Varcoe runs through a guys jaw with his shoulder and gets the same. Varcoe could have knocked that guy into next week ffs

And while Bernie is dumb for doing that it shows the MRP is far dumber.

Ask the 3 victims of the Varcoe, Casboult and Vince hits, which they would rather receive.

Varcoe and Casboult were dangerous hits with a shoulder to the face and Bernie is a forearm  tap to the back of the head deemed  low impact.

Joke.

Also it's not Membrey he hit, its that Nathan Wright who after the hit i heard on the raido during the match while watching was off the ground being assessed for concussion (and stayed off for an entire quarter after the hit). I bet that's what killed Bernie's chances of getting off, because Wright actually had symptoms of concussion (hence its not the action, rather the outcome that they suspend on).

If Vince stopped doing these stupid acts we wouldn't be having this conversation.

Its not like he hasn't done this before.

My opinion - fair call for the week off for Bernie. Silly act and not the first time he has done something like this. Make sure he knows that he will have to work to get his place back in the team.

Happy with a week deserves it and at least he actually made contact this time, unlike last year where he got a week for almost hitting someone.

The week is a joke though when compared to Varcoe, he should get 2 minimum but probably 3.

Any footage of the incident? Everyone seems to be talking about the Membrey one which is incorrect. It was on Wright during the 3rd quarter apparently.

Anyway, the main problem is the 'intentional' charge which differs quite a lot from 'careless' and although 'low' impact, it was to the head. So no surprise that an intentional hit to the head results in a 2 week ban reduced to 1 with an early plea really...if it was 'medium' or 'high' impact he would be looking at 3-4+ weeks.

Stevie J raised his forearm immediately following a contest and collected an Adelaide player in the first qtr but this didn't even get assessed.

There is zero continuity in the MRP's reasoning.

Absolute fairy floss stuff. What were the symptoms of concussion? Barely getting a kick? If so, we could rightly argue pre - existing injury.

This cat has probably used up his nine lives. And there's no use bringing up parity or precedence to defend a charge with the MRP.

But: the hit was graded LOW impact - so there shouldn't be given too much weight given to the effect of the impact - and INTENTIONAL to the head.

The only approach then would be to argue it wasn't intentional. Or, that it wasn't intentional to the head - which is much more difficult with the duty-of-care clauses in place when electing to make contact.

So: in the moment prior to contact, Wright dishes off a handball from a low body position with Bernie in pursuit. Bernie is too late to legally make the tackle and can't halt his momentum so raises his arm to avoid contact. Wright raises his head from the low position and contact is made. Note: Bernie's arm continues on an upward trajectory as Wright's head is rising as if adjusting to avoid contact.

Kiss that Brownlow goodbye Bernie.

Forget about challenging it how about pulling up the bloke that has a issue of doing it time after time.

Pull your head in Bernie!

This is exactly what is needed! Bernie is too good a player and dare I say it a valued contributor in our impending finals campaign!

Ok go on... bag me for the last comment ! But I really believe this

Hey dazzle, on the same page for once!

Look at it - it was the inner part of his bent elbow to the back of his neck, minimally late

The "victim" would have done very well playing soccer for Italy v Australia in a World Cup match.

Vince is a marked man. He will receive zero tolerance from the MRP.  Needs to smarten up.

Demonland Trackwatchers braved the sweltering heat to bring you their Preseason Training observations from Gosch's Paddock on Monday morning. SCOOP JUNIOR'S PRESEASON TRAINING OBSERVATIONS I went down today in what were pretty ordinary conditions - hot and windy. When I got there, they were doing repeat simulations of a stoppage on the wing and then moving the ball inside 50. There seemed to be an emphasis on handballing out of the stoppage, usually there were 3 or 4 handballs to

BEST OF THE REST by Meggs

Meggs' Review of Melbourne's AFLW Season 9 ... Congratulations first off to the North Melbourne Kangaroos on winning the 2024 AFLW Premiership. Roos Coach Darren Crocker has assembled a team chock-full of competitive and highly skilful players who outclassed the Brisbane Lions in the Grand Final to remain undefeated throughout Season 9. A huge achievement in what was a dominant season by North. For Melbourne fans, the season was unfortunately one of frustration and disappointment
