  1. I personally love his pace and tackling pressure. I think Hunter really hurt us last year. I was stoked we got him but have been underwhelmed with his output since. Things that stick in my mind from last year on hunter: his desire to break tackles and lose (holding ball/turnover), his aggressive kicking that kept missing targets (turnovers). Hunter is meant to be a fantastic kick yet match after match last year his kicks were landing 1 m short (ball up/turnover as a result). credit though he did slot some very hard boundary line shots. Overall, i think we are a little too similar for speed as a team, and picket/CW add that point of difference that just helps our bulls so much (i keep thinking Isaac Smith when i see him play and wonder on his output vs smith at a similar age).
  2. ON windsor as Sub, could be that every 3-4 weeks we play him as a sub to "rest" him (decrease the AFL demands on hs body. Because we do tend to see first year players start to lag a bit ~3/4 of the way through the season. SO to me putting him as a sub would be logical in this sense (putting petty in isn't logical but see what happens).
  3. I think JT has really nailed the harder / aggressive recruits and last 2 drafts has tried to draft more for needs (which makes sense) and in my mind has failed apart from Van Rooyen. But it's hard to do reading up on a keyboard and watching limited highlights. And as another poster said our game style doesn't suit fast ball movement which gives forwards a chance to actually lead and fight 1v1 (so does recruiting a silky outside player actually help the machine that is melbourne.. in theory yes.. but.. 2021 19 Jacob van Rooyen Melbourne Claremont WAFL 39 Blake Howes Melbourne Sandringham Dragons 2022 15 Matthew Jefferson Melbourne Oakleigh Chargers NAB League 38 Jed Adams Melbourne Peel Thunder WAFL I personally would love us to get a tall defender to play behind may for 2 years ish until he retires instead - i like the look of this guy in particular (Murray Bushrangers defender Connor O’Sullivan). And we don't even know if windsor or any of the draftees can play next year or not. Oh well, let's see it on the field fellas.
  4. I feel like none of the team after us have shown or been rumored to be interested in him. So i'd be confident he will be there at 11. As another poster said, pick the best player outside of him at 6. and get him at 11.
  5. I think of watson as the Papley of the draft. But Watson is shorter, and the highest goal kicking player in the draft by lightyears. Hence he would likely be the most dangerous goal kicking small if his form holds up (and there is no reason to think it won't, hence why hawthorn or dogs likely to pick him).
  6. I'd say WC doesn't need to move it on until draft night with live trading (and try to force NM to do it). Obviously if they offer a good deal beforehand, they will/would as pick 2 and 1-2 late teen picks is pretty good too. Otherwise, it may be Melbourne's offer is only considered on draft night (increasing pressure on us to offer more and more).
  7. My issue with a future first is if we don't get a key forward this year and say GC King is available, we won't have the 2x first rounders likely needed to land him. But club likely knows what it's doing (just like the "forward" thinking approach).
  8. I also don't mind the idea of keeping both 1st rounders next year in case a King from gold coast wanted to come back to melbourne etc. Be a good hand to tempt the trade etc.
  9. 13 to 16 and Grundy back is the only way i'd even consider it (and still hate it).
  10. I'd be happy to hold those picks till next year considering that next years draft is rated stronger than current draft (which appears underwhelming). But the footy department will know best. (and thanks lord nev for clarifying pick 44 - was trying to figure it out haha).
  11. I hope he doesn't go so high if there is a chance for him to come back to us in a few years time (i.e. if he goes top 5-10, that club will want something similar back). If he goes 11-18 then it won't be as hard to swallow. But all guesses until it happens.
  12. Nice work. I think St Kilda want to keep next years 2nd rounder in case they can tempt the second King home.
  13. Well seeing how may was unfit and injured for most of his first year, potentially we could've told him to wait one more year and either: 1) traded Jessie and picked up the other king brother for pick 6, or 2) kept Hogan and picked may up as a free agent the year after. From the talk though he wasn't in the best head space and it was effecting the team off field, so mutually beneficial outcome.
  14. If we'd kept Hogan then we wouldn't have May etc. If we hadn't of lost scully, we wouldn't have Hogan etc. if a player left and bad mouthed us then i'd be happy to rub it in. On the day i didn't want Hannan to get a medal having just left us (but that was more fo rthe precedent it could set - whereas by winning we have set the opposite precedent, i.e. don't leave in case miss out on a potential premiership next year). :)
  15. I'm not going to be happy if it's a future first for this pick. Only reason is that the north Melbourne deal was for the same pick but the money dump (so if we can afford Cerra, can we afford a money dump to get pick 19 without having to give up our future first - instead make it a future second or some such)? All in all pick 19 for pick 16-18 next year isn't too bad.
  16. If we could bring in tyson stengle for nothing i wouldn't be too unhappy about it (as long as his off-field issues don't influence anyone - wish Jetta was still here for that reason). Saw a report we are linked to him on Fox.
  17. If mays hammy is iffy, but plays, I think a spare defender (smith or hunt) would be more likely/ smarter especially with ports fast small forwards 🤷‍♂️.
  18. Good points, bold my thoughts :). Sorry everyone for blabbing on about a past test that means nothing now.
  19. I commented on this at the time and can't prove anything, but i 100% (money back guarantee :P) sure that that the sprint time recorded was an error. Either the tester recorded someone else's score in his place or he was allowed to start a meter back and had built up a bit of velocity when he crossed the start line and timing started (this then leads to a much quicker 20m time as it's the first few steps that are the slow point). Gary Rohan and Lewis jetta who were both drafted as an explosive and quick player had best 20m sprint times of 2.93 and 2.95 and they are much much faster than Brayshaw. I just want people to stop looking at a number and using it as a fact when blind freddie can see that it's an error (it's like someone swapped jayden hunts sprint time around with Brayshaw and now everyone thinks hunts slow - anyone can see that Hunts fast, but if i pull out a stat saying Hunts sprint time is 3.3 seconds over 20m it doesn't make me right). Further, it's hard to break the 3 second barrier, 2.9 is ridiculously fast and would go to the top 1% of players in the AFL for speed (if he had that he would be a completely different footballer than we see on the field - think chase down tackles, sprinting away with ease from opponents, etc.)
  20. Depends what we define as panic? Form as a team = have been worried for weeks. keeping top 2 = Yes, panic as i can't see us keeping it unless we completely change something and that spark is hit. keeping a top 4 spot = yes (as poster above alluded too, all the teams around us have easy draws and we play most of the top 8 teams... so we can make our own history, but i see us loosing most of current form). Making finals = no panic - disappointment that we are not 2 wins higher.
  21. I don't really think we are fast, more we are now making fast decisions and have the endurance base to run teams off their feet, rather than being a team of fast runners with a high top running speed. I think it's Hunt, picket >> daylight>>> petracca and the rest fall in around here (I think May is pretty fast too and Hibberd looks like he could be).
  22. Haven't read, but i thought i saw somewhere someone say ~$800k for ALice springs game and if a big crowd ~$2mil for Queens bday :(
  23. I'm 36 and i struggle to watch us live now that we are doing well because i expect perfection and hate errors (get angry etc.), yet when we were [censored] i would watch every second and had 0 temper. Doesn't make sense :(
  24. Regarding Harmes, i don't want him back in as i'm not sure currently he makes us any better. Maybe he does, i think he was best as a tagger, but viney is doing that role, so could he come in fora Jones? I'm sure he will be back soon regardless!
  25. Yea why risk it. The news has reported on people testing negative overseas, hoping on a plane to melb or NZ and when of testing positive. I doubt that would happen here, but i'd prefer to not risk it with our team.
