Just re-watched the incident.

Unless Macmillan was acting by falling to the ground in the hope of stealing a free kick, I reckon Vince just got him.

As a result, 2 down to 1. Maybe if we're extremely lucky, a fine but it wasn't a good look.

A Norf player, one of Scott's boys, Harvey's teammate staging for a free?  No. Would never happen.

Dumb stuff Bernie.

ANB gets his chance you'd think.

Maybe - gotta squeeze Garlett and possibly Brayshaw in too.

Someone else should come out for Garlett for team balance.

If it's form (and fitness) based then ANB has to be a big chance.

I thought one week was fair until i watched the video again. Does anyone else think that if you got elbowed in the jaw your head would move sideways? Seems the North player has some incedible neck muscles that mean he can be elbowed in the jaw and only have his head go back and his arms go up. Incredible! The sessions with NIDA through the week are paying dividends for North.

Any update on Brayshaw, will he be 100% assuming he's the best replacement?

I think he is. Can't see him being as damaging but in many ways this might work out ok for both parties. Gus has to perform to keep his spot the following week. He has to really go for it so we get to see where he really sits right at this moment form/fitness wise and we as a club should benefit on match day as well.

Poor old Grimesy is getting further back in the queue. Not helped by being on call for the firsts and missing out on the Casey demolition

Who though? Our forward line was predominantly Hogan, Watts, Kent and Frost, then was filled on a rotating basis with mids - Harmes, Kennedy, Vanders, Bernie and Oliver all spent time there.

I think really, despite Garlett usually playing close to goals, when making a calculation of team balance, you have to count him in the pool of midfielders, because that is who fills his role when he is out. Him playing frees up Kennedy et al to spend more time in the middle, so in essence it becomes Kennedy et al replacing Vince, and Garlett replacing Kennedy et al.

I'd be rather partial to replacing Vince with Hunt. Not sure if he's ready yet, but starting to do some decent things at Casey. ANB strikes me as more of general purpose utility with a good tank, but Vince provides us with a lot of drive, and I'm not sure ANB has that kind of penetration to his kicking. (not sure Hunt does either, but if he can gain an extra 10m through running, we'd get the same result).

An opportunity also for Tyson to step up.

it wasn't a throw of the elbow or anything it was just a block.  & not a deliberate action but a reaction.  from surprise & defence.

There was no force in it,  at all.   We should fight it,  get it down to a fine.

It just seems really unfair, for Macmillan not to be awarded anything for HIS effort.

Overlooked also for casting of 'Creed'.

Absolutely hate to see Vince rubbed for a week.

But can't complain about this one. It was there.

Only if he made contact.  Stupid to put himself in that position but if he didn't touch him or only glanced him surely a reprimand is sufficient. If this was a Selwood or Mitchell no way would they have copped time.

Edit - especially considering his record.

The charge is that he struck him in the neck.

Silly thing to do raising the elbow. Also unnecessary.

However, if you wanted to run an appeal, I would show the Merrett forearm hit on Pederson, as Pedersen was marking the ball, which sent him from the field bleeding with a broken nose.

That was deemed not sufficient force to rub out Merrett.

No breaks, or blood on MacMillan.  Also didn't leave the field.

All that said, I don't see us appealing.

That's a reasonable case but we're talking about our leading possession getter on the weekend and best player against the Pies in recent meetings. Garlett doesn't fill that void. ANB or Brayshaw, again assuming full fitness, go closer.

Stretch would come in for Garlett as he was the late in to replace him. I think we got the balance pretty right on Sunday and team selection should reflect that.

I think the fact that most on here successfully predicted the tribunal result shows that claims about inconsistency at the tribunal are overplayed. It was definitely a reportable offence and one week is fair.

Correct.

And it was a stupid decision by Vince. It could prove very costly given his form and he has been fantastic on the likes of Pendlebury previously.

I know he has many credits for people around here on Demonland and there hasn't been that much angst. But he does have form with left field incidents such as this. And he's effectively put his team and club under the pump as a result. The return of Sidebottom to the Pies line up strengthens their midfield whilst ours has been weakened significantly IMV.

The fact that what most posters said on here came true is in itself no evidence that the tribunal is consistent - just that this one was pretty blatant and deserved a week.  The question is would a favoured son have got a lesser penalty.  We can't tell for sure without entering a parallel universe, but there is enough history to suggest that they may have.

Sure probably most of their run-of-the-mill decisions are reasonably 'consistent'.  It's the egregious ones that favour certain stars which are the reason the tribunal is held in contempt by many of us.

What are you saying because most here said "Bernie didn't hit the Norf player, he missed and the Norf player was acting. But knowing our luck at this tribunal we'll get 2 weeks down to 1" then the tribunal is being consistent?

That is seriously misguided.

Seeing the incident one week is fair. Stupid and unnecessary from Bernie, and it punishes his teammates with him being unavailable this week.

On the positive Brayshaw will come in for him and Bernie can rest up ready to give Cotchin a bath.

I would be interested in knowing how those who think Bernie innocent would react if the elbow had been thrown at Bernie.  I think we would all be calling for the suspension of the other player.

Those who watched the 2024 Marsh AFL National Championships closely this year would not be particularly surprised that Melbourne selected Victoria Country pair Harvey Langford and Xavier Lindsay on the first night of the AFL National Draft. The two left-footed midfielders are as different as chalk and cheese but they had similar impacts in their Coates Talent League teams and in the National Championships in 2024. Their interstate side was edged out at the very end of the tournament for tea
