Demonland has made the difficult decision to not permit this platform to be used to discuss & debate the off-field issues relating to the Melbourne Football Club including matters currently being litigated between the Club & former Board members, board elections, the issue of illicit drugs in footy, the culture at the club & the personal issues & allegations against some of our players & officials ...

We do not take these issues & this decision lightly & of course we believe that these serious matters affecting the club we love & are so passionate about are worthy of discussion & debate & I wish we could provide a place where these matters can be discussed in a civil & respectful manner.

However these discussions unfortunately invariably devolve into areas that may be defamatory, libelous, spread unsubstantiated rumours & can effect the mental health of those involved. Even discussion & debate of known facts or media reports can lead to finger pointing, blame & personal attacks.

The repercussion is that these discussions can open this website, it’s owners & it’s users to legal action & may result in this website being forced to shutdown.

There were games early in the season when it was amazing the  Doggies got close to winning with Lobb in their team. He was beyond dreadful.  Having said that, his back half of the season was passable once his fitness was AFL standard.  On a positive note, he would definitely unite Demonland at least once a month as the match day whipping boy.

Don't know why people think McKay would cost multiple high first rounders. He is paid $1 million per year, but Carlton play just as well when he is missing, with Curnow as the clear #1 man, DeKoning playing forward ruck, and Pittonet as a pure ruck. That million a year of salary could be used to make significant improvements to their team in other positions. When Collingwood got rid of Brodie Grundy, at the time a 28 year old two time all australian, they only received pick 27 and they agreed to pay $1.5 million of salary for him.

Yep, and I reckon the Carlton FD and MC worked out in the second half of 2023 that they played better without him and with the speed of the modern game, found he was a bit of a liability if he wasn't kicking goals and taking marks.

Carlton definitely play better with Harry in the side. He provides a great marking option on the wing, decent field kicking and will run,  chase and tackle quite well for a big guy, he adds alot to the side even without many goals. It is just now with Tom De Koning finally showing signs of stepping up a notch recently (and Jack Silvahni re-signing) that Harry may possibly be dangled as trade bait?? 🤔

Grundy was overpaid for what he was - a decent starting ruck but no longer a game changer. The Pies had 2 decent rucks and needed to get the Grundy cash off the books.

Harry McKay is still a 1 million dollar a year forward IMO, purely because of the scarcity of the position.

Carlton are rumoured to be fairly tight to the cap but no one is saying they need a firesale to remove a bunch of cap space. I still think they're better with the 2 key forwards but even if they aren't it's a good problem to have and they surely wouldn't be desperate to make a move for less than the full price for a very talented key forward in his prime.

Overpaying for a key forward like McKay is not what I'd like or expect the club to pursue.

What I have heard from a couple of people including a family member who works in the media is the Tom Lynch one whisper that won't go away. We're interested.

And that makes most sense given his age, the transition period that Richmond are in and our window with May and Gawn.

We wouldn't have to pay overs and we'd still have plenty of picks to work with both to trade or hot the draft.

Not every trade is the same GD.

Carlton are not in a clearing salary dump like Pies and McKay is in his prime age 25 with 5/7 years to play.
He also has recent form ( and potential to improve still). Brody had not played for 12 months virtually.and is 29 with maybe 3/4 years at most.

First rounder plus second ( or both futures) would be best case scenario and 3rd/4th back possibly.

The feeling is that Harry has much room for improvement in his game awareness and potential to be a 60 goal plus a season forward added to Petty JVR Fritta Trac Kossie McAdam ANB and Jefferson. Just imagine him tip the scales for us to swallow the four and 2 point losses with Harry parading the MCG!

Makes me think 2 first rounders is more the go with the token 3:4 draft pick in return.

Where do other D/Lers sit on this one presuming you are for this mega trade which might rescue the crucial life of a still to be ( potential) dynasty?

See my take below on the same issue of Harry's price compared to Brody's.

Bizarre decision by the doggies to trade in Lobb last year. He's been poor and played some genuinely pathetic games for them. Not surprised they are trying to offload him.

I love that the sun’s ‘journalists’ just make up trades and it gets called ‘news’

I especially like it when journo's quote each other as 'sources'.  I reckon there would be merit in a blog that scrutinises AFL journo's, kind of like the media watch program.

hes not great but we’d get him for a slab of CC and Dry

I'd rather keep T-Mac. Reportedly his body is feeling good again and when fit and in form he is a very good player. We already have Schache for depth so I don't see why we would want to bring in Lobb.

Mr Chook..   im a bit if a Tmac convert.   Thought he should have been considered more often for games ( and perhaps was )

Alas..  he's cooked.  His greatest asset imho was his tank and ability to get to contests in a timely / effective manner ....but he's lost a yard.  He's sorta a nearly there version of his prior self. Ok for magoos...gets found out at the top level. A marvellous servant of our club...   but the bell looms i reckon.

A big yes for mine vs McKay provided he passes the durability test

If the finals version is his ‘feeling good’, I’d hate to see what he looks like with a knock or some soreness.

I’m starting to think McKay, at a high cost, is better than Lynch for a desperate Premiership attempt. I’d rather invest long term and let him grow with our group post Max, May etc

He can hit the wings and the neat goal kicking of Petty & JVR can stay closer to goal. Traditional CHF role.

THE MEANING OF FOOTY by Whispering Jack

Throughout history various philosophers have grappled with the meaning of life. Aristotle, Aquinas, Kant, Nietzsche, Schopenhauer and a multitude of authors of diverse religious texts all tried. As society became more complex, the question became attached to specific endeavours in life even including sporting pursuits where such questions arose among our game’s commentariat as, “what is the meaning of football”? Melbourne coach Simon Goodwin must be tired of dealing with such a dilemma but,

The two clubs have a history that goes right back to the time when the game was starting to become an organised sport but it’s the present that makes the task of previewing this contest so interesting. Both clubs recently reached the pinnacle of the competition winning premiership flags in 2021 and 2022 respectively, but before the start of this season, many good judges felt their time had passed - n
