Demonland has made the difficult decision to not permit this platform to be used to discuss & debate the off-field issues relating to the Melbourne Football Club including matters currently being litigated between the Club & former Board members, board elections, the issue of illicit drugs in footy, the culture at the club & the personal issues & allegations against some of our players & officials ...

We do not take these issues & this decision lightly & of course we believe that these serious matters affecting the club we love & are so passionate about are worthy of discussion & debate & I wish we could provide a place where these matters can be discussed in a civil & respectful manner.

However these discussions unfortunately invariably devolve into areas that may be defamatory, libelous, spread unsubstantiated rumours & can effect the mental health of those involved. Even discussion & debate of known facts or media reports can lead to finger pointing, blame & personal attacks.

The repercussion is that these discussions can open this website, it’s owners & it’s users to legal action & may result in this website being forced to shutdown.

Massive night for Weid and TMac, throwing ourselves back in time to 2018 when TMac was killing it and Weid looked like a future AA.

Not expecting him to star, just want him to play his role. Good luck Sam, take your chance!

The Port game is in Adelaide so the latest Brown could fly out of Melbourne is next Thursday morning.  Unless his iso started Wednesday night/yesterday morning, which is unlikely as he was named in today's team, I'm sorry to say he won't play vs Port.

I think it's pretty obvious that the Club sees Weid as the future of the Club, whereas Mitch is of course a fair bit older.

Perhaps Mitch would have been selected if the opponent was a top side?

Hopefully Weid doesn't drop those sitters ... and when he gets the chance kicks straight.

Future, we're in win it all now mode not the future. If Brown gives us more chance to win then he should play, if any player gives us more chance to win they should play. The future is now and for most people Brown should get the position ahead of Weid but as someone else said maybe they see his ruck work as better if needed... who knows but its a massive meh for mine.

In addition to Weid, I wouldn't mind T Mac stepping up a gear as our number 1 forward.

He hasn't played a game of note since the Port game in July last year. He's only averaged 3 marks and less than a goal a game since round 18 last year.

As others have mentioned, really hoping BBB is available for next week.

Weideman coming in means this is a big test for both him and McDonald. Brown will return as soon as he's over his enforced absence, meaning only one of Weideman and McDonald will keep their spot.

It's also an opportunity for Weideman to show his forward credentials without having to worry about being the back-up ruckman.

It's not right that Mitch Brown doesn't come in. He kicked 7 goals in the VFL and Weideman was average. It should be Brown for Brown.

Good luck to Weid... Maybe notching in from massive VFL form (like last year) will take pressure off him to kick a bag.  Hopefully they kick footy's at home non-stop at training to soften those hands.

As for bloody bomber supporters, they are pretty much all [censored], coaching at juniors preseason last week. A yr9 (About 14/15) says dees are crap (Wearing my members cap) and tells me how they have won 16 flags...  So they got to do sprints for every flag they won.  :)

I find when both these two (Macca & Weid) are in the same team playing forward they too often get in each others' road on the lead and/or both are leaping at the same incoming high ball far too often.

Hopefully this can't happen tonight assuming Macca plays mostly back.

I remember brown playing against the bummers a couple of years ago & played well & Essendon fans were saying we shouldn't have got rid of him.

Agree but Brown wasn’t even an emergency. Not sure what the criteria is for selection but in this case form can’t be one of them.

Will be an interesting night one way or the other with this selection. Surely Weids last chance to show he can have an impact at this level.

Won't be an issue LH.  With that run up he'll need to play from here anyway...

Should be fresh though since he barely got near it.

Jokes aside I hope he does well and brings his career back from the brink. With Brown and McDonald near the end of their careers Weideman will be in the perfect age demographic to spearhead the forward line with Van Rooyen developing. Wishful thinking maybe but while he pulls a Melbourne jumper on I will support and hope.

I thought Benny Brown made the big difference for us up forward in the first two games.

I reckon this will go down to the wire unless one of Tnackers Weirdman or Fritz (I give up and will spell it like most commentators say it) kick three or four.

Covid is going to make this season  interesting.

Yeah .. God only knows how the season will play out. Makes it even more important than ever to get some early wins on the board.

I'm surprised by the hate strongly negative attitude towards Essendon in this thread. There may be all sorts of reasons for it, but I wonder whether it all boils down to latent hostility following on from the result of the 2000 GF?

Nazi colours. An unusually high proportion of unlikeable players and red-heads in the 90s.

LEADERS OF THE PACK by The Oracle

I was asked to write a preview of this week’s Round 8 match between Melbourne and Geelong. The two clubs have a history that goes right back to the time when the game was starting to become an organised sport but it’s the present that makes the task of previewing this contest so interesting. Both clubs recently reached the pinnacle of the competition winning premiership flags in 2021 and 2022 respectively, but before the start of this season, many good judges felt their time had passed - n

    TRAINING: Monday 29th April 2024

Demonland Trackwatcher Kev Martin was on hand at Gosch's Paddock for Monday's training session and made the following observations. About 38 to 40  players down at training.  BBB walking laps.  Charlie Spargo still in rehab, doing short run throughs.  Christian Salem has full kit on and doing individual work with a trainer. He is is starting to get into some sprints. I cannot see Andy Moniz-Wakefield out there. Jack Viney and Kade Chandler have broken away from the

    DISCO INFERNO by Whispering Jack

Two weeks ago, when the curtain came down on Melbourne’s game against the Brisbane Lions, the team trudged off the MCG looking tired and despondent at the end of a tough run of games played in quick succession. In the days that followed, the fans wanted answers about their team’s lamentable performance that night and foremost among their concerns was whether the loss was a one off result of fatigue or was it due to other factor(s) of far greater consequence.  As it turns out, the answer to

TIGERS PUNT CASEY by KC from Casey

The afternoon atmosphere at the Swinburne Centre was somewhat surreal as the game between Richmond VFL and the Casey Demons unfolded on what was really a normal work day for most Melburnians. The Yarra Park precinct marched to the rhythm of city life, the trains rolled by, pedestrians walked by with their dogs and the traffic on Punt Road and Brunton Avenue swirled past while inside the arena, a football battle ensued. And what a battle it was? The Tigers came in with a record of two wins f
