Posting unsubstantiated rumours on this website is strictly forbidden.

Demonland has made the difficult decision to not permit this platform to be used to discuss & debate the off-field issues relating to the Melbourne Football Club including matters currently being litigated between the Club & former Board members, board elections, the issue of illicit drugs in footy, the culture at the club & the personal issues & allegations against some of our players & officials ...

We do not take these issues & this decision lightly & of course we believe that these serious matters affecting the club we love & are so passionate about are worthy of discussion & debate & I wish we could provide a place where these matters can be discussed in a civil & respectful manner.

However these discussions unfortunately invariably devolve into areas that may be defamatory, libelous, spread unsubstantiated rumours & can effect the mental health of those involved. Even discussion & debate of known facts or media reports can lead to finger pointing, blame & personal attacks.

The repercussion is that these discussions can open this website, it’s owners & it’s users to legal action & may result in this website being forced to shutdown.

We reserve the right to delete posts that offend against our above policy & indeed, to ban posters who are repeat offenders or who breach our code of conduct.

WE HAVE BUILT A FANTASTIC ONLINE COMMUNITY AT DEMONLAND OVER THE PAST 23 YEARS & WE WOULD LIKE TO CONTINUE TO BE ABLE TO DISCUSS THE CLUB WE LOVE & ARE SO PASSIONATE ABOUT.

Would you be happy to wait until next year if you were given that luxury when the GF will return to the MCG, but at the expense of either losing the GF or not making the GF this year?

Genuine hypothetical.

Who knows if we'll even have the chance again? If we're in it this year of course I'd want to win, would be great for the players and the club. Then hopefully they can back it up next year, "2021 was for us, 2022 is for the supporters" type of thing.

If it wasn't such a long drought it wouldn't be an issue, its the fact it's been so long and most supporters have never seen one that makes it stick in the guts.

100% watch us win a grand final. I would do anything to watch us win one. In person or otherwise.

I would say losing a grand final would be better than a prelim, but both would hurt and feel like a real missed opportunity.

Preference order:

  1. Watch the Deez win in person
  2. Watch the Filth loose in person
  3. Watch the Filth loose again on the replay.

I saw the filth get flogged by the toigs in 1980 when Bartlett kicked 7.
Could bring your eskies full of grog back then and standing room had to be there from about 8am to get a decent spot.
Overlooked from the 1st tier many bloody conflicts in the standing room area behind the goals at the city end when it was all concrete.
Pisshead filth and toigs fans who'd been drinking all day it was fair dinkum feral stuff.

I was living in London in 2000, and fully prepared to fly back for the GF - in Thursday, out Sunday or Monday. Only miss a week of work, at worst. Was just about to press the go button, and my brother convinced me not to, because in all reality we were likely to lose as Essendon had been so dominant (he’s an MFC supporter). Thus I watched it at 3am Saturday morning London time, enormously thankful in my misery that I didn’t make the trip. Has to be b) and b).

I have seen us win 88 & 2000 Preliminary’s live. The joy leaving both those games was mind blowing & I can only imagine what winning that one extra week feels like?  On the downside I also witnessed us getting destroyed in both those seasons only one week later. I just want to see us win the GF. If that has to be on TV this year well those are the cards we have been dealt. That won’t take away the moment for me as there are no guarantees we get this shot again.  Just roll with it guys , if this comes together this will be an epic moment in all our lives!!!

I was having this discussion with another Demon fan today and would like to pose these two questions to Demonlanders.

1.  Would you rather watch Melbourne a) lose the Grand Final in person at the MCG or b) win it on TV?

2.  What is worse - a) losing a Preliminary Final or b) losing a Grand Final?

My answers were b) in both cases, whereas his were the opposite for both.

This could be a poll if I had any idea how to do that.

Any chance of an option c) ?!

watching it at home I mostly feel sorry for my wife and kids as I’ll be a freaking nightmare to be around

For those that have witnessed 1988 and 2000, the only answer would be watching a GF win on TV over attending a GF loss. They are humiliating experiences watching your team cooked by quarter time in a grand final.

I know people have shot me down for this question  but if you were given the choice of winning a flag in 2021 or 2022 which one would you choose - bearing in mind that you will be guaranteed that one of the two years we will win the flag under this hypothetical. (obviously without the hypothetical option, you take the 2021 premiership and run with it!!)

I would choose 2022. I know many would choose 2021 due to their own individual circumstances, but I want a grand final week where we can soak up the action, attend the MCG live for the game with our guaranteed tickets, and experience the elation of the MFC players and supporters at 4:30pm when the magical siren blows to signal that your team is the premier. I want to experience the fairy tale that Richmond, Dogs, Geelong and Sydney supporters experienced this century. And enjoy the celebrations with your friends and family well into the night.

Watching it on TV in the world's toughest lockdown just doesn't compare to the above experience that many of us would be denied.

#2 for me depends on the loss itself, ie losing a Prelim by 1 point may be worse than losing a GF by 10+ goals. Leaves more of a "what if" feel to it

Anyone who would choose to lose a grand so they could watch it in person is a moron not worth engaging with, or a high school student who hasn't experienced the emptiness that is post-1964 Melbourne.

1. Clearly B - I’ve always lamented how after a flogging I can’t put on an AFL Grand Final win and watch it to make me feel better.

2. Clearly A - I’ve seen two Preliminary Final loses (98 to North and 18 to West Coast) and the 2000 Grand Final loss to the Bombers. The Prelims were absolutely shattering compared to the GF.

I’d far rather watch us lose the 2000 Grand Final again than be at Optus and be abused by the Eagles fans while we’re getting touched up by 60+…

I'd find it hard to come to terms with any of those options and am clinging to the hope that our state can get it's [censored] together by the end of the current lockdown period so we can attend games in some capacity. If we lose we lose but I want to be there regardless.

There are now so many clubs that play home games at the G but finals is the one true time where the MFC have a distinct advantage over the rest when the entire northern side of the ground becomes a sea of red & blue. I desperately want us all to be there to provide the boys with that edge.

Not at 3am I didn’t. Watched at home, live. I did watch other GF replays at Walkabout Covent Garden, but can only really remember the stinky, beer-sodden carpet.

Haha. Even that drive to the pub was a waste of time.

That would have been awful. It wasn't much better the next day mind you. Did you get to the Oval to see the Dees play Adelaide? That was a good day.

OVER YET? by KC from Casey

The Friday evening rush hour clash of two of the VFL’s 2024 minnows, Carlton and the Casey Demons was excruciatingly painful to watch, even if it was for the most part a close encounter. I suppose that since the game had to produce a result (a tie would have done the game some justice), the four points that went to Casey with the win, were fully justified because they went to the best team. In that respect, my opinion is based on the fact that the Blues were a lopsided combination that had

Our game is one where the result is often decided by centimetres; the touch of a fingernail, a split-second decision made by a player or official, the angle of vision or the random movement of an oblong ball in flight or in its bounce and trajectory. There is one habit that Melbourne seems to have developed of late in its games against Carlton which is that the Demons keep finding themselves on the wrong end of the stick in terms of the fine line in close games at times when centimetres mak

    MELBOURNE BUSINESS by The Oracle

In days of old, this week’s Thursday night AFL match up between the Demons and the Blues would be framed on the basis of the need to redress the fact that Carlton “stole” last year’s semi final away from Melbourne and with it, their hopes for the premiership.  A hot gospelling coach might point out to his charges that they were the better team on the night in all facets and that poor kicking for goal and a couple of lapses at the death cost them what was rightfully theirs. Moreover, now was

The Casey Demons have been left languishing near the bottom of the VFL table after suffering a 32-point defeat at the hands of stand alone club Williamstown at Casey Fields on Sunday. The Demons suffered a major setback before the game even started when AFL listed players Ben Brown, Marty Hore and Josh Schache were withdrawn from the selected side. Only Schache was confirmed as an injury replacement, the other two held over as possible injury replacements for Melbourne’s Thursday night fixt
