Posting unsubstantiated rumours on this website is strictly forbidden.

Demonland has made the difficult decision to not permit this platform to be used to discuss & debate the off-field issues relating to the Melbourne Football Club including matters currently being litigated between the Club & former Board members, board elections, the issue of illicit drugs in footy, the culture at the club & the personal issues & allegations against some of our players & officials ...

We do not take these issues & this decision lightly & of course we believe that these serious matters affecting the club we love & are so passionate about are worthy of discussion & debate & I wish we could provide a place where these matters can be discussed in a civil & respectful manner.

However these discussions unfortunately invariably devolve into areas that may be defamatory, libelous, spread unsubstantiated rumours & can effect the mental health of those involved. Even discussion & debate of known facts or media reports can lead to finger pointing, blame & personal attacks.

The repercussion is that these discussions can open this website, it’s owners & it’s users to legal action & may result in this website being forced to shutdown.

Our moderating team are all volunteers & cannot moderate the forum 24/7 & as a consequence problematic content that contravenes our rules & standards may go unnoticed for some time before it can be removed.

We reserve the right to delete posts that offend against our above policy & indeed, to ban posters who are repeat offenders or who breach our code of conduct.

WE HAVE BUILT A FANTASTIC ONLINE COMMUNITY AT DEMONLAND OVER THE PAST 23 YEARS & WE WOULD LIKE TO CONTINUE TO BE ABLE TO DISCUSS THE CLUB WE LOVE & ARE SO PASSIONATE ABOUT.

Surprised no one has mentioned Dylan Stephen’s here. Was an absolute jet on the wing in his draft year before being taken at pick 5. With Sydney having a cap squeeze I think he should be high up our hit list.

Sounds like the Swans are pushing him out. I understand the cap issues but clearly internally they must be very underwhelmed by him.

comparisons with jimmy toumpas in terms of his ability to work hard and defensive accountability don't do him many favours

"Was a big bucks man" - I read that to mean he wanted big dollars, so was not thrilled, but if they mean he was close to his former coach, that puts a different light on it.

If he wants success, surely he'd go for us over the Saints.

Scott Pendlebury apparently open to a move to another club as a player then moving into a coaching role. I am sure it’s more a way in getting more money or an extra year at Collingwood. But hell his footy smarts and ball use would be a nice contrast to our other midfielders despite his age.

There’s an article in the Herald-Sun (no link available) entitled “Moneyball: Follow all the latest trade, contract, draft and coaching news across the AFL” there are some interesting items –

• Essendon is keen to recruit Gold Coast’s Malcolm Rosas who is seen as a replacement for Irving Mosquito who has left the club.

• Adam Cerra is considered a certainty to land at Carlton with Melbourne mentioned as the only other possible suitor. However, the Demons aren’t in a position to provide a trade. Luke Jackson is out of the question and the club doesn’t have any high draft picks.

• Melbourne is keen to retain Sam Weideman who has received interest from Collingwood, North Melbourne and the Gold Coast Suns.

• Tom Lynch who was told by Adelaide that he wasn’t getting a new contract.

• Hawthorn has offered a three year deal to Fremantle’s Lachie Schultz.

Lockhart is nowhere near the player that Maynard is!

Lockhart will be lucky to be on the list. One year left max, don't see a future in him, while on the other hand Maynard would be in our best 22.

The Gold Coast is a destination that might suit Sam the best. He needs a decent run at it to regain his confidence. The problem at Melbourne is that there’s no guarantee he’ll be able to break into the team with its current set up.

I'd like to see him get another go next year after an uninterrupted preseason. The stress fracture in his hip put him on the back foot.

What have the Suns got to offer as a trade?

Their 1st Round Pick which we could use to get Mac Andrew. Means there would be a swapping of picks involved no doubt.

Where there is smoke, there is fire. Considering we don’t have draft capital for Cerra, why is our name in every article about him? What are we trying to do? Future first no doubt, but if I was Freo Id want more. I guess Hogan > Cerra and Hogan was 6 & 23.

But even if he could get it done isn't the salary cap an issue - esp moving forward?

Depends on what we let go when the season’s over. We also had a lot of guys sign long term deals, don’t know exactly how those deals are staggered within the cap.

I am one who doesn't like to see players go, from Hogan to Watts to Gysberts to Blease and recently Jack Viney and of course I have been proven wrong many times over the journey. I am biased and find ways to like our players more than others. Nothing wrong with that.

But do we need Maynard? I would have thought between Tomlinson, Smith and Hibberd (if he stays for 1 more year) and a developing Bowey we had that half back sweeper spot covered. Maynard is a good player though, white line fever, hates to get beat. I hope we put a high price on Weidemann though because I think we might need him for structure of the team more than Maynard.

I would say mentioning Tommo, Hibberd and Smith all prove we do need him in a roundabout way.

Tommo isn't currently playing and he is more your 3rd tall.

Hibbo isn't currently playing and he is the most similar to Maynard, he is becoming quite limited with his movement.

Smith will likely never play on the sort of player Maynard would, again.

    CENTIMETRES by Whispering Jack

Our game is one where the result is often decided by centimetres; the touch of a fingernail, a split-second decision made by a player or official, the angle of vision or the random movement of an oblong ball in flight or in its bounce and trajectory. There is one habit that Melbourne seems to have developed of late in its games against Carlton which is that the Demons keep finding themselves on the wrong end of the stick in terms of the fine line in close games at times when centimetres mak

    MELBOURNE BUSINESS by The Oracle

In days of old, this week’s Thursday night AFL match up between the Demons and the Blues would be framed on the basis of the need to redress the fact that Carlton “stole” last year’s semi final away from Melbourne and with it, their hopes for the premiership.  A hot gospelling coach might point out to his charges that they were the better team on the night in all facets and that poor kicking for goal and a couple of lapses at the death cost them what was rightfully theirs. Moreover, now was

UNDER THE PUMP by KC from Casey

The Casey Demons have been left languishing near the bottom of the VFL table after suffering a 32-point defeat at the hands of stand alone club Williamstown at Casey Fields on Sunday. The Demons suffered a major setback before the game even started when AFL listed players Ben Brown, Marty Hore and Josh Schache were withdrawn from the selected side. Only Schache was confirmed as an injury replacement, the other two held over as possible injury replacements for Melbourne’s Thursday night fixt

THE MEANING OF FOOTY by Whispering Jack

Throughout history various philosophers have grappled with the meaning of life. Aristotle, Aquinas, Kant, Nietzsche, Schopenhauer and a multitude of authors of diverse religious texts all tried. As society became more complex, the question became attached to specific endeavours in life even including sporting pursuits where such questions arose among our game’s commentariat as, “what is the meaning of football”? Melbourne coach Simon Goodwin must be tired of dealing with such a dilemma but,
