Discussion on recent allegations about the use of illicit drugs in football is forbidden
  • IMPORTANT: PLEASE READ BEFORE POSTING

Posting unsubstantiated rumours on this website is strictly forbidden.

Demonland has made the difficult decision to not permit this platform to be used to discuss & debate the off-field issues relating to the Melbourne Football Club including matters currently being litigated between the Club & former Board members, board elections, the issue of illicit drugs in footy, the culture at the club & the personal issues & allegations against some of our players & officials ...

We do not take these issues & this decision lightly & of course we believe that these serious matters affecting the club we love & are so passionate about are worthy of discussion & debate & I wish we could provide a place where these matters can be discussed in a civil & respectful manner.

However these discussions unfortunately invariably devolve into areas that may be defamatory, libelous, spread unsubstantiated rumours & can effect the mental health of those involved. Even discussion & debate of known facts or media reports can lead to finger pointing, blame & personal attacks.

The repercussion is that these discussions can open this website, it’s owners & it’s users to legal action & may result in this website being forced to shutdown.

Our moderating team are all volunteers & cannot moderate the forum 24/7 & as a consequence problematic content that contravenes our rules & standards may go unnoticed for some time before it can be removed.

We reserve the right to delete posts that offend against our above policy & indeed, to ban posters who are repeat offenders or who breach our code of conduct.

WE HAVE BUILT A FANTASTIC ONLINE COMMUNITY AT DEMONLAND OVER THE PAST 23 YEARS & WE WOULD LIKE TO CONTINUE TO BE ABLE TO DISCUSS THE CLUB WE LOVE & ARE SO PASSIONATE ABOUT.

Thank you for your continued support & understanding. Go Dees.

To the naked eye I’d say bring better players in and drop poor performers.

But to the eye that has brains I’d say Jetta, Melksham out and assess fitness of Viney and Salem. If Lockhart is ready to go I don’t see why he wouldn’t be pushing.

Still thinking about Weid, don’t want to change things too much but he wasn’t good.

Cmon Cassie take a step back and thing about your comments before posting.  Hindsight is a wonderful thing when it comes to knowing who should have played between Weed or Ben Brown. As for Gawn you are way off and if you think we would ever drop our captain you are kidding yourself.  Gawn hasn’t been dominating the last few weeks but to even entertain dropping him is ludicrous.

Weid didn’t play to well in his last game either. Brown had a good last game.

Gawn has been disappointing lately and judging by other comments here I’m not the only one who believes it. If someone if playing below their skill level I don’t think they should be retained just because “they’re the captain.”

I thought long and hard about my comments before I posted them and I stand by them ?

I actually can’t believe Tmac missed his set shot last night. He hasn’t missed those all year. So costly.
And Fritsch’s set shot was an utter disgrace. Didn’t make the distance or even landed anywhere near the goals. They kicked accurately and won. Our woeful goal kicking is just another area that is starting to hurt us badly.

Starting? It's been hurting us all year, really

We've had five games with more goals than behinds and five the other way around. We had +7 scoring shots but only a 22 point win. Against St Kilda it was +13 scoring shots but only 19 point margin. Geelong was +10 scoring shots but only +25 points, Carlton was +11 for 26 points and then last night we lost despite having +4 scoring shots.

Only once has our opponent had more scoring shots than us and that was Sydney, where our accuracy helped us win. Too many times this year we have let sides off the hook and kept games closer than they needed to be (and gave up percentage) by missing shots.

Re Melksham: his replacement isn’t Sparrow - who’s a mid. It has to be another forward, and the ready to go alternative is Jones.

Sparrow for Jordan or another mid if he’s to come in, but Viney would be first choice if ready.

Not necessarily. Bringing in Sparrow into the mix means Harmes, Petracca or Oliver can go forward more often, OR you could just have Sparrow playing as a forward. It's not set in stone there's no flexibility in roles players are asked to play. Having Sparrow instead of Melksham as a forward gives us more pressure and intent in that part of the ground, something we've been missing for a couple of weeks.

Exactly, that's what Sparrow did in our first 4 rounds and our defensive pressure was really strong. Petracca keeps butchering it around the ground so much he's actually at his best playing forward and up for centre bounces/clearances. Cutting down the midfield time for Brayshaw, Harmes and JJ let's them be fresher when they are out there too.

It's human nature to be reactionary, and supporters are number one at this when it's such an emotional investment.

We've lost a game by a point...

By a team that has also beaten Geelong (a top 4 contender).

Now if I was a Bulldogs supporter looking at the form line between the two, then it's lineball.

But if I was an emotional supporter of the Dog's I'd be shirting bricks...

Bulldogs Supporter Stream of Consciousness

"Streuth, we've got the Dee's  - they've just lost to Adelaide, they're off the boil and we have them on our home deck", but heck we're going alright...aren't we? I mean,  our tails are up, we've dismantled the Saints, but only two weeks ago, we've proven we can't handle intense long term pressure, when we lost to the Tigers, with 4 of their best midfield out by 4 goals. We only kicked 2 goals after half time"

"Actually, we only just snuck in against Carlton, after they dropped their guard in the final quarter"

"If I was a Melbourne supporter, I'd say we're ripe for the picking after a stroll in the park against a weak St Kilda side".

But..I'm an emotional Melbourne supporter - and I'll wonder out a loud and say things like

  • Is Goodwin the right guy? Mmmm perhaps I'll start a thread on that one.
  • Weideman has had too many chances, 6 years in the system and STILL has no presence
  • Fritsch...yeah he's silk, but he is selfish and doesn't tackle and we need everyone to tackle, even if they're silk
  • Gawn isn't captain material when he drops marks like that
  • Lever and May are lazy/arrogant...heck they're both!
  • Petty, should have been delisted
  • Petracca just showboats
  • We don't have depth
  • Our issues haven't been fixed in all the time that Goodwin has been on as coach
  • Did I mention Melksham should be dropped
  • And if we have to bring in Jones from the two's then we have no depth.

Like any match - it's essentially about the pressure that is brought... time and time and time again....and the odd call or non call from an umpire.

Salem is presumably an in for Jetta if not then Lockhart.  Viney hopefully is an in for Melksham if not then either Sparrow or Chandler need to come in for more defensive pressure (or if they wanted to be really daring they could bring in Bowey)

Jones in as the medical sub.

If Ben Brown isn't right and Weid hasn't nailed his spot I reckon we go smaller. The forward line has functioned better with Fritsch, McDonald and Jackson. Gawn stays more engaged in the game. Jackson is our best 'bring the ball to ground' tall forward. Fritsch stays in games getting more of the ball at full forward.

The question is who to bring in. Salem for Jetta obviously.

I'd be thinking about Lockhart and Sparrow for Melksham and Weid.

Sparrow plays half forward with some short stints on ball as the 5th on baller.

Lockhart plays a mixture of a few short stints on ball, a little on the wing and a little at half forward. I'd use him very much as an impact player to bring fresh legs. He can even take a stint on a back flank to give the half backs an extra rotation.

The secret to beating the dogs is to keep the pressure on for long enough that they start doubting their skills and to move the ball around to stop their aggressive zone defending having easy peel off spoils.

wake up DS, lockhart is a defender and certainly not a league level onballer in a premiership contenders side, and also isn't a forward especially when we have forwards in form in the twos

We are a team that was one poor umpiring decision from being 10 straight. Absolute maximum of three changes and those depend a lot on fitness - Jetta for Salem is the obvious first one and Viney is an automatic inclusion if fit.

Can't understand how you could mount a case to drop Fritsch ahead of Weideman, though BBB may not have done enough to come back (stiff to be dropped in the first place and matches up well against dogs) and Mitch Brown would be a retrograde step.

As for the idea of dropping Max, save me Jebus...

You can argue that the ball use was a problem for Weid but reality he he didnt create a strong leading target like BBB does, you cant hit a target that doesn't exist. Brown in, I suspect Weideman will be playing elsewhere in 2022.

Jordon has hit that point that many young players hit where he needs a break, needs work on his disposal too. Brayshaw is another that needs to be discussed, poor again yesterday, the play where he shepherded one of his teammates out of the way rather than laying a tackle on Mackay who ran through him and kicked the goal was typically ridiculous. Milk great first quarter than nothing but his creativity still too valuable if fit, agree with others he needs to think more about his defensive game. Jackson is coming along really well.

Looking at the Casey game maybe baker comes in for hunt, if Ben Brown is a no go then maybe the other brown wouldn’t be the worst idea. He is still a tall but brings a bit more than either when it goes to ground like pedo back in the day

    DISCO INFERNO by Whispering Jack

Two weeks ago, when the curtain came down on Melbourne’s game against the Brisbane Lions, the team trudged off the MCG looking tired and despondent at the end of a tough run of games played in quick succession. In the days that followed, the fans wanted answers about their team’s lamentable performance that night and foremost among their concerns was whether the loss was a one off result of fatigue or was it due to other factor(s) of far greater consequence.  As it turns out, the answer to

TIGERS PUNT CASEY by KC from Casey

The afternoon atmosphere at the Swinburne Centre was somewhat surreal as the game between Richmond VFL and the Casey Demons unfolded on what was really a normal work day for most Melburnians. The Yarra Park precinct marched to the rhythm of city life, the trains rolled by, pedestrians walked by with their dogs and the traffic on Punt Road and Brunton Avenue swirled past while inside the arena, a football battle ensued. And what a battle it was? The Tigers came in with a record of two wins f

It's Game Day and the Demons once again open the round of football with their annual clash against Richmond on ANZAC Eve. The Tigers, coached by former Dees champion and Premiership assistant coach Adem Yze have a plethora of stars missing due to injury but beware the wounded Tiger. The Dees will have to be switched on tonight. A win will keep them in the hunt for the Top 4 whilst a loss could see them fall out of the 8 for the first time since 2020.

There’s a touch of irony in the fact that Adem Yze played his first game for Melbourne in Round 13, 1995 against the club he now coaches. For that game, he wore the number 44 guernsey and got six touches in a game the team won by 11 points.  The man whose first name was often misspelled, soon changed to the number 13 and it turned out lucky for him. He became a highly revered Demon with a record of 271 games during which his presence was acknowledged by the fans with the chant of “Oozee” wh
