Demonland has made the difficult decision to not permit this platform to be used to discuss & debate the off-field issues relating to the Melbourne Football Club including matters currently being litigated between the Club & former Board members, board elections, the issue of illicit drugs in footy, the culture at the club & the personal issues & allegations against some of our players & officials ...

We do not take these issues & this decision lightly & of course we believe that these serious matters affecting the club we love & are so passionate about are worthy of discussion & debate & I wish we could provide a place where these matters can be discussed in a civil & respectful manner.

Even discussion & debate of known facts or media reports can lead to finger pointing, blame & personal attacks.

Melksham is getting the same Fritsch hate treatment from not long ago when he wasn’t kicking goals. Melksham is easily capable of kicking 3-4 goals and setting up the same for others. Does far more than Jones could in the forward line.

Melksham brings strong delivery inside 50 and should get better with more games. But he's on thin ice.

Harmes I suspect is being brought in as a defensive midfielder to roam wing and put pressure on their transition out of defense which is generally quite strong and could be damaging on the MCG where they normally play well (and destroyed Richmond doing just that). Suspect Harmes will play a Houli-esque role as a small cut-off. Looking forward to him grabbing a few intercept marks across half back and proving many here wrong.

I'm okay with these changes.

End of the day Melksham provides more scoreboard pressure than Jones so he has an opportunity to make a difference here. He certainly struggled last week but his delivery was good and he got hs going in the 3rd quarter.

If 1 Quarter efforts are keeping Melksham in the side then if we advance far into finals then, we just cannot afford to play him! At any cost!

I’m really disappointed Sparrow’s missed out to Harmes. Sparrow’s 2021 form exceeds anything we’ve seen from Harmes since 2018. Weid is being made to bide his time until a spot opens, IMO Harmes should have too.

You mean in 2019 when everyone played like [censored] and 2020 when he was played in the wrong position?

Harms is obviously like for like with Bonnie cash of course, not as good but approve on top 23 player.

Harmes is obviously like for like with Viney - of course, not as good but a proven top 22 player.

I, for one, I’m not going to argue against the coaches at the moment given their record this season.

I love these people that hate Melksham.....  It's a riot.

69% game time for 17 Possessions, 6 marks and 18 pressure acts.  Sure he makes the odd mistake but lots of people have blinkers on

Isn't Weideman a better option than Melksham?  Am I missing something?

Totally different players one_demon. We already have two tall forward options, plus Bayley. Melksham can rotate through the middle. Whether he is the best option for that is debatable.

Really?  People are still getting sucked in by this old chestnut?  #Demonmyths.

As if the Match Selection Committee would say "Well we think Melksham isn't doing enough and he should be dropped for this match, but seeing as he's Goody's 'best mate' he gets another go".

Come on now.  Melbourne Football Club isn't run by a bunch of amateurs these days nor does the Coach have sole discretion on who is in or out of the team.

I'm not saying Melksham deserves to stay in but I defer to the MSC's superior wisdom and knowledge.

Well, I will back Demonlanders over the Selectors ANY DAY!!

Sparrow's best game ever is 17 possessions and he had just 4 in his last game. Harmes had 20 in Round 1 (with a broken wrist) and averaged 24.5 in 2019. Possessions aren't everything I know, but they are not nothing.

Sparrow had a good game last week against witches hats but lets not go overboard about his year.

Surprised harmes got the nod ahead of number 32.

I wonder if they will run him as a hard tag on Kennedy, their best mid and even at his stage of his career arguably their most important player.

Shut him down and they will really struggle getting it out to their outside players. Which will really help to negate their strengths and desired game plan.

Not surprised melksham stays in. Laid 3 tackles last week and his pressure was better.

And is arguably our most damaging kick.

100% Harmes is in for a specific shut down job. It's the only logical conclusion looking from the outside in. A hardened body to compete with Kennedy.

If Viney was fit, he would be 'languishing' in the two's.

Kind of like selection in a way, although agree Sparrow is the future and stiff. Would have been my preference (Maybe the Wied is stiff too.)

But ex Tomlinson, the selection committee had just about the strongest list possible to pick from.

How things have changed. We should win this, notwithstanding some good “ins”for the Swans . For my money Harmes and  Melksham are very questionable selections and clearly accountable as is the selection committee.

Not much room to hide here.

It's about rewarding form. Great opportunity for Sparrow for more midfield minutes now that Viney is out.

Harmes was selfish and lazy against North.

Jones out and Melksham out is laughable. But hey I suppose Goodein has to get his mate to 200.

Sorry Dazzle but I've seen Harmes beaten/ off the pace but I think it's very disrespectful to call him selfish and lazy. I don't think that's in his DNA.

Yeah look I feel for Sparrow. But maybe they want the experience of Harmes against a fairly robust experienced midfield. Perhaps he will do a job on Kennedy.
Baker must be the medical sub.

Melksham must do something the coaches really rate. I don’t see it. But we are 7-0 so I can’t say they don’t know what they’re doing.

Melksham's job should be to get the ball, then wheel and hit Ben Brown on the anywhere from waist to 3 feet above his head.

If he does that even 2-3 times a week he's done the job IMO.

Sparrow has not shown enough when playing seniors to be picked above Harmes. Harmes offer so much more as on baller / tagged / forward.

I agree. I feel like some on Demonland whip themselves into a frenzy about a player out of the side.  For a while it was Vandenberg when he was injured, then over preseason everyone was Rosman crazy, and now Sparrow is the gun. His senior games have been less than average. He needs to string together more consistent games in the VFL, and then show much more at senior level.

Good to see the Melksham haters out in force. The most obvious case of groupthink I’ve seen on this forum I reckon.

He’s the best deliverer of the ball in to the 50 we have. For the same reason you all argued (rightfully) with me until you went blue that Spargo’s job isn’t about getting heaps of the ball, Melksham’s job isn’t to lay stacks of tackles. It’s to link up at half forward, win contests when needed and make sure we get meaningful delivery.

Many seem to be assessing Melksham’s performance against Spargo’s role.

I would like to see Harmes do a tagging job on Parker. By all reports, Parker has been their most damaging midfielder this year. Stop him and we'll go along way in getting first touch from clearances.

    CENTIMETRES by Whispering Jack

Our game is one where the result is often decided by centimetres; the touch of a fingernail, a split-second decision made by a player or official, the angle of vision or the random movement of an oblong ball in flight or in its bounce and trajectory. There is one habit that Melbourne seems to have developed of late in its games against Carlton which is that the Demons keep finding themselves on the wrong end of the stick in terms of the fine line in close games at times when centimetres mak

    MELBOURNE BUSINESS by The Oracle

In days of old, this week’s Thursday night AFL match up between the Demons and the Blues would be framed on the basis of the need to redress the fact that Carlton “stole” last year’s semi final away from Melbourne and with it, their hopes for the premiership.  A hot gospelling coach might point out to his charges that they were the better team on the night in all facets and that poor kicking for goal and a couple of lapses at the death cost them what was rightfully theirs. Moreover, now was

THE MEANING OF FOOTY by Whispering Jack

Throughout history various philosophers have grappled with the meaning of life. Aristotle, Aquinas, Kant, Nietzsche, Schopenhauer and a multitude of authors of diverse religious texts all tried. As society became more complex, the question became attached to specific endeavours in life even including sporting pursuits where such questions arose among our game’s commentariat as, “what is the meaning of football”? Melbourne coach Simon Goodwin must be tired of dealing with such a dilemma but,
