  1. I can't argue with that. But I still have a bad feeling that we are letting go of too many experienced players. Jones, Jetta, Melksham, possibly AVB and Weideman. These are all guys who have been at our club for over 6 years and more, and we aren't exactly stocked with great draft pics to replace them. Even if we bring in new players from other clubs, they will still take time to adjust to the system as we've seen in cases with May and Brown arriving at the club and how poor their fitness and standards were. Melksham and Weideman need to be retained IMO.
  2. Majak I believe they will retain. I heard Goody mention earlier in the year that he is a multiple year proposition for us. Mitch Brown is a tough one. He's a handy back up but he's also 31 or nearing it. I guess it depends on whether Weideman wants to go or not.
  3. I feel like we will lose too many experienced players in our team if Melksham goes. Jones has already retired, Jetta will probably go with him and if Melk goes that's almost 650 games worth of experience walking out the door. We need these leaders there to drive the standards for the coming years. This situation happened in 2019 when we let go of to many senior/experienced players and we finished 17th.
  4. What a great way to wake up for my birthday... Melbourne heading into the Grand Final, whilst also giving Geelong a good thrashing. Gawn, Petracca, Oliver, Salem, Lever were amazing again last night, as they have been all year. But I was so impressed with Brayshaw's defensive efforts and Bowey's skill and composure from a 7 gamer in a big final. This kid is something! Soak this feeling up everyone. We don't experience these days often! Go Demons!
  5. I agree... GC would need a bit more, but on current output, Rankine has done nothing so far... he has all the talent and skill but has struggled since arriving there. I think if GC see a Weideman/King combo they would take it.
  6. He's considered more a gun defender but he can play forward. In any case, we can move Petty forward if need be.
  7. Just a thought on a possible 3 way trade. Melbourne send Weideman to Gold Coast. Gold Coast send Rankine to Adelaide. Adelaide send McAsey to Melbourne. Gold Coast are in need of a ready made key forward, while Melbourne have surplus key forwards and Weideman is kicking up a stink at not getting a game. While Rankine has been very underwhelming given where he was selected in the draft, and many have speculated a move back to his home town in Adelaide. I think it's a win win for all clubs. Fischer McAsey was taken #6 in the draft a couple of years ago and has barely had a look in at Adelaide as it's already been well stated that he wants to move back to Victoria. He's a gun key defender/forward and only 20 years of age so that gives us time to let him build in the reserves while Brown and McDonald are holding down the key forward posts in the firsts.
  8. Got my Chivas 18 year ready to go if we win tonight. Cheering us on from Wodonga!
  9. - 25. My dad's school teacher was a Melbourne player at the time. He got a photograph with all the players autographs on it. Sadly I believe it is lost these days.
  10. So proud of this team and i'm so happy for Max. Absolute clutch Captain's goal right there! Bravo!
  11. I loved how our backline performed today. We have to remember how little experience these guys have had at AFL match level. Rivers has only played 30 games, Petty 26 games, Smith 19 games and Bowey 3. And can someone tell Eddie Mcguire to stop complaining about the MCC and how toffy the Melbourne supporters are. Eddie sits right next to the MCC stand when the Pies play every time, so a bit of pot kettle there!
  12. I wouldn't mind it if May took an extra week off. No doubt Hawkins will be throwing his weight and deliberate elbows around, so he doesn't have to play on him in finals. Smith deserves another go in round 23.
  13. We haven't been playing good football for over a month now and the Giants just wanted it more. A bit of the pressure is off our backs now. I'm happy sitting in second place, the Dogs are playing like a side deserving of top spot. Also GWS have now put Richmond out of the 8 for now, and come finals time I know who I'd rather be playing. Perhaps maybe a bit of a silver lining.
  14. Yes the stats indicate that, but from watching the game the Bombers were much better. Nuff said.
  15. Our midfield needs a lot of work. We were beaten time and time again in centre clearances. We're meant to have one of the best midfields in the comp, and were well beaten IMV. Luckily our defence held strong, our back 7 all played brilliantly tonight and Brayshaw was sensational on the wing. Anyway bank the win Demons and move on to GWS. Also...can someone please show Pickett how to kick a bloody set shot on goal! he misses week in week out!
  16. Harmes needs to tag Lyons, he's their go to clearance winner and accumulator. Much like Libratore the week before. Zorko and Neale will match up well with Oliver and Petracca. Sparrow and Jordon are both good defensively minded players, so they will be able to stem the flow if either of the aforementioned players start to dominate for Brisbane. Melbourne by 17.
  17. Is she worth $150,000? absolutely not. Would she help us win our inaugural flag? absolutely! Bring her home.
  18. Good old 'Sweethearts' pizza joint. That place is always packed after all the army lads have had their drinking sesh at the 'Bended Elbow'. Fun times indeed!
  19. IMO it looks as though Jones, Jetta, Baker and AVB will be on the chopping block or traded come seasons end. I'd imagine Chandler and Bradtke will be elevated to the Senior list. Joel Smith, Hore and Neitschke are rated well among the coaching panel, so they may get another chance.
  20. I would like to see Harmes do a tagging job on Parker. By all reports, Parker has been their most damaging midfielder this year. Stop him and we'll go along way in getting first touch from clearances.
  21. Some players don't like having contracts hanging over their heads. They don't like the pressure it adds to their performance. Then journo's start writing articles and speculate why said person hasn't signed on etc. Better to sign early so you can just focus on your training and football and forgetting all that Fugazi.
  22. No DH policy at Melbourne for a while now. He just cost his club $20k for getting De goey to grab his phone for him. So a NO for me.
  23. I would say he's been given a significant pay rise seeing as he has been nearly best on ground in every game this season. It doesn't surprise me if he has now signed on with GWS. Credit to him.
