Demonland has made the difficult decision to not permit this platform to be used to discuss & debate the off-field issues relating to the Melbourne Football Club including matters currently being litigated between the Club & former Board members, board elections, the issue of illicit drugs in footy, the culture at the club & the personal issues & allegations against some of our players & officials ...

We do not take these issues & this decision lightly & of course we believe that these serious matters affecting the club we love & are so passionate about are worthy of discussion & debate & I wish we could provide a place where these matters can be discussed in a civil & respectful manner.

However these discussions unfortunately invariably devolve into areas that may be defamatory, libelous, spread unsubstantiated rumours & can effect the mental health of those involved. Even discussion & debate of known facts or media reports can lead to finger pointing, blame & personal attacks.

The repercussion is that these discussions can open this website, it’s owners & it’s users to legal action & may result in this website being forced to shutdown.

We reserve the right to delete posts that offend against our above policy & indeed, to ban posters who are repeat offenders or who breach our code of conduct.

WE HAVE BUILT A FANTASTIC ONLINE COMMUNITY AT DEMONLAND OVER THE PAST 23 YEARS & WE WOULD LIKE TO CONTINUE TO BE ABLE TO DISCUSS THE CLUB WE LOVE & ARE SO PASSIONATE ABOUT.

Thank you for your continued support & understanding. Go Dees.

Very disappointing after 580 odd days of no LIVE footy, perfect weather, Saturday afternoon and 40,000 signed up members.

Understand that we were playing an interstate team but would have thought we could hit at least 25,000 if not a 1,000 or 2 more.

Not just pathetic, I reckon it's actually a disgusting performance by the MFC supporters. Congrats to all of us who were there, where are the other 30,000 of you?? Disgraceful, how about you actually support your team? No wonder the AFL treats us like the poor relation.

You see it on here though. So many "I'm not going until they play well" comments.

Protests in that form don't help the club (nor does refraining from buying a membership when you can otherwise afford it).

A few "I'm not going until there is a vaccine" comments as well. Insanity.

That said if we weren't in COVID times, you'd have had 5-6k more Freo supporters, plus more Melbourne supporters so we'd have maybe been at 30k. Lack of interstate support hurt the final figure, no doubt. We had a solid turnout today. It was easily 95% Melbourne. But yeah if we'd been playing a Melbourne team they'd have been laughing as the away team, they'd have snapped up all the GA tickets and we'd have been outnumbered at our own home game.

Disappointing turnout. Next home game against Geelong in round 4 and hopefully by then we're at 100% capacity.

Think the lack of crowd numbers simply reflect our performances over the last 2 seasons. The players need to earn our respect back. We love you but we don't trust you. We want to believe, but you keep letting us down again and again and again. So we will pay our memberships, but until we see some improvement, other options spring to mind instead of heading to the G.

I'm sure COVID will be used as the excuse, but it hasn't stopped large COVID crowds the previous 2 evenings.

I think one of the reasons is that supporters didn’t have a lot of confidence going into this one. Poor 2020 and a poor AAMI series game.

If we were playing the Saints as our home game at the G next week you’d get 50k

pathetic

the fact that the president is across the country sums up the lack of interest our 'supporters' have in the club

Hey I watched on Kayo. Fact is I no longer have any desire to go to the footy. Keep me away from you filthy strangers please.

I was surprised by the low crowd attendance but there is still a lot of local cricket being played and my elderly neighbour told me the bowls club had lots of final events on this weekend.

Where else would you want to be on a warm Saturday afternoon though? The best time to watch footy IMO.

We’ve had a long time without footy and the best we can do is 26k?
Most likely 3000 freo supporters and 3000 AFL and MCC members, only leaves about 20000 Melbourne fans.

Pretty ordinary , but the club are very poor at promoting games as well.

I can understand people’s reluctance to attend mass gatherings until the vaccination rollout is complete.

The world is a very different place to what it was Round 22 2019.

I was there with 2 of my kids and got some goosebumps just before the first bounce. It was so good to go to he footy again. Will be interesting to see if attendances are down across the league.

was maybe 500 Freo supporters. AFL Members had decent crowd. MCC was noticeably patchy in my view from southern stand. even when we were terrible in 2013-2014 it had more people.

Patron caps impact us greatly because we have such a large core group of supporters in MCC which has its own caps. Whereas clubs like Richmond and Collingwood are less impacted as AFL Members has a larger spread.

We along with Essendon and perhaps Hawthorn desperately need an increase in capacity to ensure there is greater allowance for MCC. I say this as an AFL Member who probable wont have issues getting tickets.

Club has got to win the Supporters back

It’s that simple

Getting tickets was a nightmare so I reckon a lot of people stayed away.
We must keep winning

Excuses. Richmond, Carlton, Collingwood and Footscray supporters seemed to be able to figure out the ticketing.

First game in 18 months, sunny Saturday arvo at the G. No excuses for people staying away 21k is an embarrassment.

Yep I was there with my son, parents, uncle, brother, sister, cousin and I also scanned in with 6 spare tickets I had in the AFL members to help with the crowd figures. We won, never really looked like being headed and the atmosphere was crap because our "supporters" stayed home instead of going along and supporting the team and club.

It was a disappointing crowd  but not unexpected. Putting COVID aside, the club has been such a disappointment over the last 2 years and that had clearly affected crowd numbers.

Watch Gerard Whateley get on his high horse this week about the lack of crowd and that we should’ve allowed Essendon/Hawthorn to play the game at the G while we play at Marvel. He was sooking about it pre game.

Across the other side of the world I’d give anything to go to the footy again so if is a little mystifying that we only got 21000 after so long without seeing the team play in front of crowds at the G. Even with the poor/average performances of the last two years you would’ve thought people would be rushing to get out there for a taste of footy and normal life.

That said I definitely understand the fear factor with COVID, plus it did sound like organising tickets wasn’t a smooth ride. It’s a far cry from just having your membership to scan and walking in.

Dissapointing though, I would’ve expected minimum 25k.

UNDER THE PUMP by KC from Casey

The Casey Demons have been left languishing near the bottom of the VFL table after suffering a 32-point defeat at the hands of stand alone club Williamstown at Casey Fields on Sunday. The Demons suffered a major setback before the game even started when AFL listed players Ben Brown, Marty Hore and Josh Schache were withdrawn from the selected side. Only Schache was confirmed as an injury replacement, the other two held over as possible injury replacements for Melbourne’s Thursday night fixt

THE MEANING OF FOOTY by Whispering Jack

Throughout history various philosophers have grappled with the meaning of life. Aristotle, Aquinas, Kant, Nietzsche, Schopenhauer and a multitude of authors of diverse religious texts all tried. As society became more complex, the question became attached to specific endeavours in life even including sporting pursuits where such questions arose among our game’s commentariat as, “what is the meaning of football”? Melbourne coach Simon Goodwin must be tired of dealing with such a dilemma but,

LEADERS OF THE PACK by The Oracle

I was asked to write a preview of this week’s Round 8 match between Melbourne and Geelong. The two clubs have a history that goes right back to the time when the game was starting to become an organised sport but it’s the present that makes the task of previewing this contest so interesting. Both clubs recently reached the pinnacle of the competition winning premiership flags in 2021 and 2022 respectively, but before the start of this season, many good judges felt their time had passed - n
