Posting unsubstantiated rumours on this website is strictly forbidden.

Demonland has made the difficult decision to not permit this platform to be used to discuss & debate the off-field issues relating to the Melbourne Football Club including matters currently being litigated between the Club & former Board members, board elections, the issue of illicit drugs in footy, the culture at the club & the personal issues & allegations against some of our players & officials ...

We do not take these issues & this decision lightly & of course we believe that these serious matters affecting the club we love & are so passionate about are worthy of discussion & debate & I wish we could provide a place where these matters can be discussed in a civil & respectful manner.

However these discussions unfortunately invariably devolve into areas that may be defamatory, libelous, spread unsubstantiated rumours & can effect the mental health of those involved. Even discussion & debate of known facts or media reports can lead to finger pointing, blame & personal attacks.

The repercussion is that these discussions can open this website, it’s owners & it’s users to legal action & may result in this website being forced to shutdown.

Our moderating team are all volunteers & cannot moderate the forum 24/7 & as a consequence problematic content that contravenes our rules & standards may go unnoticed for some time before it can be removed.

We reserve the right to delete posts that offend against our above policy & indeed, to ban posters who are repeat offenders or who breach our code of conduct.

WE HAVE BUILT A FANTASTIC ONLINE COMMUNITY AT DEMONLAND OVER THE PAST 23 YEARS & WE WOULD LIKE TO CONTINUE TO BE ABLE TO DISCUSS THE CLUB WE LOVE & ARE SO PASSIONATE ABOUT.

Thank you for your continued support & understanding. Go Dees.

Why are all these jobs said to be located at Casey (VFL Coach, Head of Development, Volunteer Analysts).  No mention that after covid they revert to Gosch.   I'm surprised the ads don't reference that.

They would appeal to a much wider group if they new Casey was short term.  Or is it?

Tough market for graduates.

You know you picked the wrong course when the best on offer is an opportunity to volunteer.  There’ll be plenty of candidates I’m sure but the club should pay the going rate. Very poor form by the club.

Maybe you're right @Ohio USA - David. The club does “own" people after all.

I read that and thought that they would at least mentioned to offer the volunteers a cup of coffee or tea with a biscuit for morning tea.

I suppose that is the best they can do.  Times are tough .

I disagree about the sentiments on the adversitment.

If I was at uni /younger and wanted experience in those fields or recently graduated, I would jump at this opportunity. (besides being at the Dee's). The skills and networking to break into a tough industry would be immense.  While I agree you get paid for what work you do, its up front and clear on what you need give and you'll get in return, and I can say to a future employee this in my track record working within an "elite" sporting organisation and what I helped achieve. Beats putting only Macca's/subway on a resume.

I imagine in the past this would have been arranged directly with a university as part of their academic program. (Been involved in those in the past).  Maybe covid has changed that and it presents an opportunity for others to get in.

Agree but at 10-25 hours per week, travel to Casey and mentioning graduates... not on and very disappointed in the MFC

Might be a great opportunity but they're capitalising on the desperation of newly graduated. Sure you have an opportunity to put something good on your resume but why should it come at the cost of free work? There's a reason why volunteering for work that is usually paid for by companies is illegal in australia. It's for the benefit of society in general. Before you know it you'll have all sorts of companies/corporations expecting free work in the name of 'experience'.

Not sure who they were planning to attract putting the ad out to the world at large if their targets were uni students.

The club would have been better off placing the ad at the Monash University campuses in Clayton, Frankston and Caulfield given the work is (sometimes) based at Casey.

They have clarified its aimed at uni students and a few other points.  (Not being a legal HR person) Illegality is only promising it will become F/T paid work if you work X for free.  In this case it is not, totally agree that is not on.

If your at uni, this i a great opportunity for those interested in a sporting field of work in the support skills.  As pointed out focusing on the Uni market and not a blanket ad was maybe their misstep.  I would support my kids to do it, if it matched their ambitions.

Whoever drafted the advertisement and or approved the final copy should be admonished.  The opportunity is a really good one.  As an undergraduate I would have applied in my day.

THE MEANING OF FOOTY by Whispering Jack

Throughout history various philosophers have grappled with the meaning of life. Aristotle, Aquinas, Kant, Nietzsche, Schopenhauer and a multitude of authors of diverse religious texts all tried. As society became more complex, the question became attached to specific endeavours in life even including sporting pursuits where such questions arose among our game’s commentariat as, “what is the meaning of football”? Melbourne coach Simon Goodwin must be tired of dealing with such a dilemma but,

LEADERS OF THE PACK by The Oracle

I was asked to write a preview of this week’s Round 8 match between Melbourne and Geelong. The two clubs have a history that goes right back to the time when the game was starting to become an organised sport but it’s the present that makes the task of previewing this contest so interesting. Both clubs recently reached the pinnacle of the competition winning premiership flags in 2021 and 2022 respectively, but before the start of this season, many good judges felt their time had passed - n

    TRAINING: Monday 29th April 2024

Demonland Trackwatcher Kev Martin was on hand at Gosch's Paddock for Monday's training session and made the following observations. About 38 to 40  players down at training.  BBB walking laps.  Charlie Spargo still in rehab, doing short run throughs.  Christian Salem has full kit on and doing individual work with a trainer. He is is starting to get into some sprints. I cannot see Andy Moniz-Wakefield out there. Jack Viney and Kade Chandler have broken away from the
