Demonland has made the difficult decision to not permit this platform to be used to discuss & debate the off-field issues relating to the Melbourne Football Club including matters currently being litigated between the Club & former Board members, board elections, the issue of illicit drugs in footy, the culture at the club & the personal issues & allegations against some of our players & officials ...

We do not take these issues & this decision lightly & of course we believe that these serious matters affecting the club we love & are so passionate about are worthy of discussion & debate & I wish we could provide a place where these matters can be discussed in a civil & respectful manner.

However these discussions unfortunately invariably devolve into areas that may be defamatory, libelous, spread unsubstantiated rumours & can effect the mental health of those involved. Even discussion & debate of known facts or media reports can lead to finger pointing, blame & personal attacks.

The repercussion is that these discussions can open this website, it’s owners & it’s users to legal action & may result in this website being forced to shutdown.

Missing getable shots which is frustrating but have noticed his tackling and harassment this season is first rate.

He'll click in the next couple of weeks and then lookout!

For someone who is a beautiful kick of the ball he is frustrating to watch missing getable shots.

Like you, I'm sure it will click for him...

Let the knockers knock but we will have the last laugh 'dee-tox'

I reckon he's gone up a notch in his contests and defensive work and his leading and presenting is first class. He keeps taking marks and linking up in play.

He was 32nd in the comp for score involvements last year and is on a similar path so far through 2 games.

The only concern I had today was him giving a shot off to a player in a worse position. Was really glad to see him settle and kick an important goal.

Give him a break.

Yes his set shots need work but he’s a 3rd to 4th marking forward option, basically playing a as a key forward with our current structure.

He will benefit greatly with the return of the Weid and BBB.

An important ingredient in our future forward line.

The misses are a bit soul destroying and it think it’s becoming largely a mindset thing because there were chances he had which he either gave off (Rivers) or looked to give and stuffed it. I don’t know if it’s something you can train for, I think he needs mindfulness training or something to get him visualising the goal before it happens.

He was alone tonight, Trac had a great game but FMD he butchered some chances as well.

He’s one of favourite players at the club but he’s always taking shots on the flanks and hence affecting his accuracy.

Would love to see him take some some marks from a regulation 45 metre out directly in front.

That is not where he should lead to. He’s a 4th option.

My problem - as I said in the other thread - is his approach to kicking a set shot is akin to someone getting their orders to take part in a firing squad; anxious, scared, solemn, and complete with the respectful shooting of anything but the target.

He needs to stop practicing his goal kicking, turn quicker to keep some momentum, not slow walk in, and actually realise that it’s a thrill to kick at goal while the game stops to your will.

This is why I had you on ignore for so long. I've loved your training reports from Casey in the pre-season but now you have to except your irrelevance once we are in the big dance. Much like Saty you need to except your limitations.

There's this thing known as emotional intelligence. Please look it up.

He has skills that are very difficult to teach. Goal kicking can be an easy fix.
He is a very good third tall and when Brown and Weid return it will straighten us up and Fritsch can stop leading so deep into the pockets.

Unless in transition - he is getting the ball in the pockets and flanks - it’s what he does with it from there. Hopefully, with all players back he is delivering into the forward line playing high HF.

Or Melksham is in doing that.

I don’t have stats to back it up, but I always thought his goal kicking was as accurate as anyone in his first couple of season. But since he has returned forward after the ill fated trial at half back, his goal kicking has been all over the place.

I’ve posted this before but stats insider says his expected score last year wasn’t too far below what he ended up with. Although he’s skilled enough to be well above it IMO.

He seems worse from what should be the left footers best side. That tells me he falls off his kicks.

I've posted previously he also seems to be in the wrong pocket for a left footer.

Not sure if he is following opponent, leadership Ng to that pocket or the side is attacking down that side.

He did kick his one goal from the offside pocket and did miss his one shot from the on side pocket.

He gets the ball that much that the coaches should be addressing the problem.

All he suggestions on technique

, ball drop, falling away, approach may be relevant but I'd look first at the pocket he usually finds himself in. If he is on the wrong side dish it off to a right footer who runs past on the inside, narrows angle and improves distance.

he is so close to being a gun forward does all the right things, just isn't striking them as well as we know he can. then watch out. also think his tackle pressure has improved a lot since last season

Completely agree. He's a sensational forward for us and has made the most of poor delivery into our forward line over the last couple of years.

However, poor kicking is losing us games or stopping us from sealing them early.

We need to get his goal kicking confidence worked on as a priority.

I don't think we should trade him, just bloody train him.

Fritsch is a real talent but excrutiatingly frustrating with his kicking for goal. He appears to be so casual as if 'what the heck I'll just bang this up there'

His tackling needs a lot of work as well. To me he never tackles with intent. Not everyone can be a Viney but even Spargo who is small, when he tackles shows real intent  to stop the player.

Hnmm 1 goal 3 on Sat 10 possesions, what has he done to improve his goal kicking?? Agree, looks dangerous but does he make you pay??

I don't know whether we can/will accommodate all of Brown, Weid and Fritsch. At the moment it looks to me as though one of Jackson or TMac will eventually make way for Brown and Fritsch and Weid are competing for that 3rd tall spot.

It all depends on how TMac holds up, how Jackson comes on (and how he goes chopping out Max) and how we go with injuries.

The role he is playing he has to nail those shots. If he can convert his opportunities he could be our Gunston or Breust. If he doesn't then he becomes a liability.

LEADERS OF THE PACK by The Oracle

I was asked to write a preview of this week’s Round 8 match between Melbourne and Geelong. The two clubs have a history that goes right back to the time when the game was starting to become an organised sport but it’s the present that makes the task of previewing this contest so interesting. Both clubs recently reached the pinnacle of the competition winning premiership flags in 2021 and 2022 respectively, but before the start of this season, many good judges felt their time had passed - n

    TRAINING: Monday 29th April 2024

Demonland Trackwatcher Kev Martin was on hand at Gosch's Paddock for Monday's training session and made the following observations. About 38 to 40  players down at training.  BBB walking laps.  Charlie Spargo still in rehab, doing short run throughs.  Christian Salem has full kit on and doing individual work with a trainer. He is is starting to get into some sprints. I cannot see Andy Moniz-Wakefield out there. Jack Viney and Kade Chandler have broken away from the

    DISCO INFERNO by Whispering Jack

Two weeks ago, when the curtain came down on Melbourne’s game against the Brisbane Lions, the team trudged off the MCG looking tired and despondent at the end of a tough run of games played in quick succession. In the days that followed, the fans wanted answers about their team’s lamentable performance that night and foremost among their concerns was whether the loss was a one off result of fatigue or was it due to other factor(s) of far greater consequence.  As it turns out, the answer to

TIGERS PUNT CASEY by KC from Casey

The afternoon atmosphere at the Swinburne Centre was somewhat surreal as the game between Richmond VFL and the Casey Demons unfolded on what was really a normal work day for most Melburnians. The Yarra Park precinct marched to the rhythm of city life, the trains rolled by, pedestrians walked by with their dogs and the traffic on Punt Road and Brunton Avenue swirled past while inside the arena, a football battle ensued. And what a battle it was? The Tigers came in with a record of two wins f
