If Neeld still had 'great relationships' with off field staff members and some players as he claims, those people might not be so keen on him now @Supermercado

He just went and did a big curry s*** on the carpet (judged by Beamer's and Green's reaction) when we needed to be focusing elsewhere. 

On a more positive note, this will show what type of club we are today. Most of our blokes weren't around during CS's reign of terror and hopefully the blokes who are there just see it for what it is.

We were a shambles in 2011. We might have had on field highlights but off field we were divided and going backwards.  Three foot effortless was embracing a new level of professionalism and we still had blokes on Hollywood boulevard. We were being left behind in the football department arms race and wernt going to catch the pack. I don't think anyone is saying Neeld was the right solution, but they can see why it was necessary to try something. As per my post above,  he didn't have much chance with all the off field stuff going on. 

A club's supporters are a part of its culture. Roos tried telling us that on more than one occasion. Abstract, but when a notion such as Goodwin can't coach and should be sacked for example picks up steam you can end up with idiotic administrative fixes like . . . Neeld. Everyone was saying we needed some tough love. So Schwab, Lyon and co. set that as a coaching parameter and selected whoever could pitch a tough act (and a rookie who could be controlled - but that's another story again).

I find it really sad, the whole thing, people who at the end of the day thought they were doing the right thing, it didn't work out, it actually went as bad as it could be, but honestly, i think its time to acknowledge the past but embrace the future., after all they didn't inject players with potentially life threatening and banned substances.

The Ox and "Marco" on Macquarie sports radio said that plenty of ex-Demons from the Neeld era have called them to back Green and Moloney. Among the off-the-record comments: within 3 weeks people could see it was a calamitous appointment ... it was hands down the darkest time ever ... destroyed careers ... (not news to we the faithful, but maybe to some outsiders, esp in other codes).

But every one (including Green and Moloney) refused to go on air to talk as they say they don't want to disrupt the finals campaign.

I put the Neeld era in with the Bailey era along with the era from the late 60's through to 1980 as largely forgettable.  There are no real fond memories apart from the individual brilliance of a number of players. 

The Barassi era through to the end of Daniher's time gave us real hope for the team even though we only seriously challenged a few times.  RDB coached us well but we were bereft of talent and then Northey,  Balme & Danners all took the team to the finals. 

Full circle to Roos and now Goodwin and we're back to a point where we can challenge again.  So there's no point looking back unless you want to learn from the past (on how not to do it)

Last night's interview serves as a reminder of how to go about things the wrong way.  No one individual is at fault either - collectively we can fail or prosper.  You've just got to choose the right path (as a club)

We're now on the right path so away we go.

I remember (painfully) when the cameras went into a pre game speech by Nield.  It was dreadful.  So uninspiring.  Was not a coaches arch ole.  He can say what he thinks, and Beamer and others can shoot back.  These were all dark days indeed.  I, for one, am happy to leave all of this under the rug until we win a flag.  Historians can then open up this can of Shyte and wallow away.

Until then, listening to this toxic toad and others who want to rewrite history and claim a hand in the success of today is not on my agenda, and they can all go and suck the big ones.

I have just watched this ‘episode’ of Open Mike. Firstly, I am ok.

I think we need to get down to the nitty gritty of all this and strip back some of the bull [censored]. This man said that on taking the job he was told a lot of older players would be moved on and essentially cited Schwab for this (vaguely), I’m staggered that the CEO had so much input into the list management and find it very weird that the coach had so little say in who he wanted moving forward. I’m also a bit surprised every time someone mentioned that our list needed a complete overhaul on the back of a season where some tipped us to play finals. Lastly on that point I can’t belie e there are people here falling for this and think people like Lyon we’re behind this orchestrated plan with the list. When asked if Lyon got Neeld the job he had no idea about any of that so I’m pretty satisfied he didn’t know anything about Lyon’s input. It’s time to stop blaming Lyon for the downfall of our club during that period when in reality his contribution ended when the coach was hired look to the people who oversaw that period.

His Essendon time sounds like a total joke.  I’m sure the guy is a nice man but he couldn’t coach his way out of a paper bag. That men behind the ball nonsense I remember hearing after one of the thrashings in Adelaide. It stank then and it stinks now.
