The whole club was toxic and divided and the list was terrible. He put the explanation mark on a terrible period. Nobody at the Club intended to hurt it, they were just out of their depth. I'll watch with interest, it's part of our history and just highlights the strides we've made and the wonderful contributions of all involved since PJ was appointed. But IMO it's time to put the knives away for the Stynes/McLardy era and enjoy our growth both on and off the field. Agreed. Nobody went into the job wanting to ruin our club. Everyone had the best intentions and there is no denying the love that Stynes and McLardy had for the footy club. They just didn't have the tools to succeed. Neeld was an awful coaching selection, but I am sure he tried his best and did what he thought was right. He just happened to get it so horrifically wrong! 8 Quote

layzie 34,752 Posted September 3, 2018 Posted September 3, 2018 I know this is a slightly long bow but if he's anything like he was on FC the day he got sacked then it will be a serious waste of time watching it. Master deflector of hard questions and stubborn as anything. 2 Quote
Delusional demon 82 1,197 Posted September 3, 2018 Posted September 3, 2018 Hopefully they’ll have time to touch on the 3 premierships at ocean grove ... I’m mean just wow for the timing of this by mike , the week we play our first final in 12 years. Will definitely generate a lot of interest with non melb supporters I’m tipping Also I’m sure if we made it to the prelims they’ll get brock McLean on to talk about the tanking saga ... just to remind everyone as well fugazi fugazi fugazi 3 1 2 Quote

How much time Sheahan spends on it will be interesting. Quote

A bit like the Steven febey or Anthony Stevens interviews I think mike will typically adopt the 80/20 rule (80% juicy stuff and 20% ohh yes you did have a footy career too...let’s get to that later) actually given its Neeld it will be ( 95/5) me thinks Quote
Jibroni 5,085 Posted September 3, 2018 Posted September 3, 2018 Credit to him for going on the show, at the end of the day the board saw something in him; still trying to figure out what that was?? 1 Quote

Snake oil salesman. That and Malthouses big mouth. Apparently couldnt give him a more glowing recommendation. Quote
Clintosaurus 8,009 Posted September 3, 2018 Posted September 3, 2018 It's not all Neeld's fault. Board should have really appointed an experienced coach to stabliise the football side of things. He did himself no favours with the captaincy decision. The pre-game speech before 148 was also an abomination. He did get us Jesse Hogan though. That has to be worth something. Quote
sisso 2,663 Posted September 3, 2018 Posted September 3, 2018 He never recovered from his first real game in charge - we got smashed by Brisbane at the MCG and he gave a scathing press conference putting everything squarely on the shoulders of the players - at the time I remember thinking this guy isn't the right man for the job. Wells 11 5,533 Posted September 3, 2018 Posted September 3, 2018 (edited) I feel like differentiating Neeld the man v Neeld the coach. As a man his disappointment must have been immense, coaching was his lifes ambition. He killed his own dreams as much as killed ours with his coaching style. He faced the truth of our recuiting policy that had gone before him...which was never going to make him popular. The club recovers but his aspirations never will. So, as many above have said , like him or not, he gave it his all and bled for our club along with us. It must have been a savage ride and I thank him...as I thank all ex dees for his contibutions and the time and strain he gave for us. That being said. Neeld the coach was a frikn abomination. He was weak when he needed to be strong ( apparantly following a directive to sack the leadership group on arrival....sooo wrong) and strong when he needed to be flexible ( the manner he appoached the players and the relationships he grew/ poisoned) his speeches to the players were atrocious, his game plan was dated anyway and built without reference to the players he actually had. On top of that he managed to alienate both the coaches AND the players with his autocratic ways from early on in his time here. His tenure remains the darkest years of my entire 46 year supporting history...and theres been some really crap years to run that against lol. The only good thing Neeld gave us imo was that he brought us absolutely and fully undone. He was great at that. From THAT place PJ and PR arrived and today we are a destination club, finals coming, a possible new home base and seen by many as having the best young list in the comp. I hated the death and that whole humiliating time he was at the helm...but Im def enjoying the rebirth! Perhaps today could never be reached without that kind of black yesterday. FlashInThePan 1,893 Posted September 3, 2018 Posted September 3, 2018 I know he did his best and probably never intended to stuff up our club as much as he did. Nevertheless, I don't want him given anymore oxygen by the media. He could at least have the good grace to shut up and let us finally enjoy a purple patch. This really gets up my nose. Mike should be ashamed of himself. 1 Quote
mauriesy 7,476 Posted September 3, 2018 Posted September 3, 2018 I don't suffer from the veil of negativity any more. Neeld and McLardy can ramble on all they like, even attempt to re-write history. I don't particularly care. 1 Quote
layzie 34,752 Posted September 3, 2018 Posted September 3, 2018 Its just the wrong time. Early next year would have been a bit better, there's no need to hear from this guy on the eve of the finals at all. 1 Quote
Little Goffy 15,223 Posted September 3, 2018 Posted September 3, 2018 Really they should be interviewing Mark Thompson's drug trafficker mates. Big Meh all around from me, anyway. Quote
layzie 34,752 Posted September 3, 2018 Posted September 3, 2018 (edited) There is one thing I will say. If I were Mark Neeld, Don Mclardy or any other passing ships in the night that suddenly want to make comment at this point in the season, I would be instantly saying before saying ANYTHING else that what is happening right now is all about the current playing group, football department, administration and members and not about them. Whispering_Jack 31,396 Posted September 3, 2018 Posted September 3, 2018 I will certainly watch it with interest because I’m surprised, after his failures as a coach at Melbourne and an assistant at Essendon and the humiliation of his exits at both clubs, that he’s agreed to be interviewed by the wily Sheahan who has the capacity to tear him apart. 2 Quote

On the advertisement for it they showed MFC content only. Think that answers what the main theme will be about. Quote

Do you think sacking the ENTIRE leadership group in your first pre season was wise for a rookie coach ? 2. Do you think your complete and almost total lack of emotional skills in any way impacted your capacity to inspire? 3. In hindsight, given you were the worst coach in living memory, do you think you were merely part of Mick Malthouses grand attempt to shore up his own reputation by recommending you as one of his assistants. 4. What do you make of the fact that the bombers suddenly started winning when you left? 5. Are you in fact really just an undercover Collingwood operative..sent to rival teams to destroy them? Wow! But let’s hear what he has to say. Surely he knows what the public and most of the AFL community thinks of those years! Quote
