Demonland has made the difficult decision to not permit this platform to be used to discuss & debate the off-field issues relating to the Melbourne Football Club including matters currently being litigated between the Club & former Board members, board elections, the issue of illicit drugs in footy, the culture at the club & the personal issues & allegations against some of our players & officials ...

We do not take these issues & this decision lightly & of course we believe that these serious matters affecting the club we love & are so passionate about are worthy of discussion & debate & I wish we could provide a place where these matters can be discussed in a civil & respectful manner.

However these discussions unfortunately invariably devolve into areas that may be defamatory, libelous, spread unsubstantiated rumours & can effect the mental health of those involved. Even discussion & debate of known facts or media reports can lead to finger pointing, blame & personal attacks.

The repercussion is that these discussions can open this website, it’s owners & it’s users to legal action & may result in this website being forced to shutdown.

We've all got eyes, but I trust Jason Taylor's eyes much more than mine. Hasn't got one wrong yet, and I'm confident in 12-18 months we will have a player taking us to our next flag

The thing is Weideman didn't play a whole lot of football in his underage years so we have probably seen more of him now than Taylor saw when he drafted him.

Was a risk and is looking like we missed the best option at that pick (Curnow). This was a pick that was based on potential more than output. Curnow would have been another pick on potential but the main difference between the two is athleticism which will forever hold Weideman back in my opinion.

I hated Oscar at the beginning of the year. Believe in player development.

Was just thinking that Omac came really good almost overnight. Something just clicked. Is it confidence?

ANB not too dissimilar to Omac.

Dare I say it, but his temprement reminds me of a young jack watts. A different skill set yes, but he doesnt seem to have much grunt factor. Im not panicking....yet. But Im in the camp that says we really missed with Charlie Curnow call. Hoping we at least get a reasonable player here. Not convinced...hope Im worng.

Couldn't disagree more, though I didn't see today's game, the way that the Weed attacks the ball in the air says that they have very different temperaments at the same age. I am very confident that he will develop into a very good player

Liked him today. Contested well and brought the ball down. No surprise that the likes of ANB and Harmes got a spark with Weideman and Pedo crashing packs. Kicking goals and taking marks isn't a KPI for him atm. He needs to be a target and needs to contest at every aerial contest forward of centre.  Suspect he'll play out the year.

He was better than his stats suggest, but he was structurally an 'out' kick today and nothing more. There was no marking and movement into space and certainly no link play. If Goodwin is a realist and if Watts can lift his form then Weideman is out. I know they are not the same type of player but we don't have a replacement for Hogan and Watts can be more effective than Weideman. If we are to do any damage in a months time, it will be with Watts in the team.

Looked lost today. As a power forward Goodwin can't hang his hat on him being a good tackler.

Will he make it?

Of course he will make it.

He turned 20  a month or two ago.  How many times does it need to be said that big guys take time!!

Not concerned about the Weed at all.  He demonstrates the desire, commitment and talent to be a good KPF for us going forward.

Im a little disappointed that he was playing this week, truth be told.  Would hve been happy for him to continue playing at VFL level for the remainder of the year where he was stringing together a good run of matches.

Carlisle had a field day on the Weeds, in fact aside from umpires he was what got them back in the game.

Weed has a good endeavour at times however it is blatantly obvious that he isn't fit enough for AFL. The kid can't even run out a quarter let alone a game at the moment.

He needs a brutal pre season otherwise we will see more of the same next year

He hit a lot of aerial costs but just didn't take the mark desire getting hands on it.

He attacks the ball at the highest point which means he is hard to spoil, but at the moment he doesn't have the body strength tho take those big pack marks.  If this strength and the resulting marking develops, he becomes a dangerous player.

I really think that this is the affect of his development that the coaching team are waiting for. For example, today he would have taken marks instead of 2 and we would have been singing his praises. He has a different skill set and strength to Hogan which will diversify the forward attack.

I think anyone writing him off before he has developed the strength required to execute his key abilities is crazy.

Many young players look uncertain because they're still learning to blend their natural game with the coach's instructions/game plan. Takes a long time, because they can't just go on pure instinct any more.

I understand that he competes well and all that but a Key position forward who doesn't kick goals is a liability for a team going into a finals campaign

Kid is a footballer. I am very confident he will make it. I think a few have seen what Hogan managed from day 1 and expect that anyone can do it.

He is gonna take time but will be a beauty.

I hate saying we need patience after so long without success, but...........

Patience.

Goodwin made a point in his pre game press conf that they were 'going in small in some areas'.  Clearly this was the forward line.  So, Weideman's job was to contest and bring the ball to ground for the small forwards.

Some supporters viewed his role as a tall forward ie to lead, mark and kick goals.

I can see why Goodwin was so rapt:  he followed coaching instructions and did the team thing.  The strategy worked as most (11?) goals were kicked by our the small forwards.

I remember at the time thinking that Curnow had a great highlight reel but the fact he got done drink driving a week before draft night showed he's not the best decision maker and was a risk. Bolton has clearly had a good influence on him, and it's worked out in retrospect.

Weids with a bad ankle was a different risk and I'm sure the medicos looked closely before giving away pick 8/9 on him. He'll be a keeper, no worries at all.

This guy can clunk a grab at its highest point. A bit more consistency in games and more confidence will see him flying for them more often.

I have no doubt in the club's development program, as well as Weideman's ability to play.

I say that without the rose coloured glasses and bias. Why?

- Tall forwards generally take longer to develop.

- He will physically mature with age.

- He's shown some exciting glimpses of what he's capable of.

- Tall forwards generally have patches of form (a few weeks on, a few weeks off).

- Even Josh Schake (pick 2, same draft) is currently out of form.

LEADERS OF THE PACK by The Oracle

I was asked to write a preview of this week’s Round 8 match between Melbourne and Geelong. The two clubs have a history that goes right back to the time when the game was starting to become an organised sport but it’s the present that makes the task of previewing this contest so interesting. Both clubs recently reached the pinnacle of the competition winning premiership flags in 2021 and 2022 respectively, but before the start of this season, many good judges felt their time had passed - n

    TRAINING: Monday 29th April 2024

Demonland Trackwatcher Kev Martin was on hand at Gosch's Paddock for Monday's training session and made the following observations. About 38 to 40  players down at training.  BBB walking laps.  Charlie Spargo still in rehab, doing short run throughs.  Christian Salem has full kit on and doing individual work with a trainer. He is is starting to get into some sprints. I cannot see Andy Moniz-Wakefield out there. Jack Viney and Kade Chandler have broken away from the

    DISCO INFERNO by Whispering Jack

Two weeks ago, when the curtain came down on Melbourne’s game against the Brisbane Lions, the team trudged off the MCG looking tired and despondent at the end of a tough run of games played in quick succession. In the days that followed, the fans wanted answers about their team’s lamentable performance that night and foremost among their concerns was whether the loss was a one off result of fatigue or was it due to other factor(s) of far greater consequence.  As it turns out, the answer to

TIGERS PUNT CASEY by KC from Casey

The afternoon atmosphere at the Swinburne Centre was somewhat surreal as the game between Richmond VFL and the Casey Demons unfolded on what was really a normal work day for most Melburnians. The Yarra Park precinct marched to the rhythm of city life, the trains rolled by, pedestrians walked by with their dogs and the traffic on Punt Road and Brunton Avenue swirled past while inside the arena, a football battle ensued. And what a battle it was? The Tigers came in with a record of two wins f
