Discussion on recent allegations about the use of illicit drugs in football is forbidden
  • IMPORTANT: PLEASE READ BEFORE POSTING

Posting unsubstantiated rumours on this website is strictly forbidden.

Demonland has made the difficult decision to not permit this platform to be used to discuss & debate the off-field issues relating to the Melbourne Football Club including matters currently being litigated between the Club & former Board members, board elections, the issue of illicit drugs in footy, the culture at the club & the personal issues & allegations against some of our players & officials ...

We do not take these issues & this decision lightly & of course we believe that these serious matters affecting the club we love & are so passionate about are worthy of discussion & debate & I wish we could provide a place where these matters can be discussed in a civil & respectful manner.

However these discussions unfortunately invariably devolve into areas that may be defamatory, libelous, spread unsubstantiated rumours & can effect the mental health of those involved. Even discussion & debate of known facts or media reports can lead to finger pointing, blame & personal attacks.

The repercussion is that these discussions can open this website, it’s owners & it’s users to legal action & may result in this website being forced to shutdown.

Our moderating team are all volunteers & cannot moderate the forum 24/7 & as a consequence problematic content that contravenes our rules & standards may go unnoticed for some time before it can be removed.

We reserve the right to delete posts that offend against our above policy & indeed, to ban posters who are repeat offenders or who breach our code of conduct.

WE HAVE BUILT A FANTASTIC ONLINE COMMUNITY AT DEMONLAND OVER THE PAST 23 YEARS & WE WOULD LIKE TO CONTINUE TO BE ABLE TO DISCUSS THE CLUB WE LOVE & ARE SO PASSIONATE ABOUT.

Thank you for your continued support & understanding. Go Dees.

You're always pretty balanced WB, no matter Osi constant negative vibe not sure what he has done here, the players who got on the [censored] are the ones at fault.

What a bunch of sparrows, spots up for grabs, new contract signed, game won.

Obviosuly team rules were broken so they didn't get the chance to be selected and totally let the team down.

Not arguing that, just observed how quick he reported it in threads and then made a full thread on it's own about it.  You could see him almost jumping with glee at the news.

Wow, fringe players during an injury crisis and a series of 6-day turnarounds, and they're on the [censored].

Most people aren't interested in trying to be great, and that's fine, really it is.

But if you want to play in the best 22 of a rising AFL club on the fringe of the top 4, when everything is at stake, then yeah, a slice of greatness is what you need to want, and need to be prepared to commit to.

I don't wear the 'boys will be boys' attitude.  Forget about the past!  This is a professional sport, and the year is 2017. These blokes put themselves above team rules, and that's selfish in anyone's language.  If we want team success, everyone needs to buy-in all of the time, not just when they feel like it.

the media sniffed a story

as I was going in the Channel 7 guys were trying to get entry

The young man on the gate said .... not  a televised game and no booking... so it wasn't normal

They came in

have no idea of what happened afterwards

Simon Goodwin I take my hat off to you. To be going into your 4th game in 18 days, undermanned, under enormous expectation and pressure, with a great deal at stake and to take the hard road by not allowing these fools to be selected speaks volumes of you and your principles.

For all those questioning this decision, you are witnessing the very thing that is making this proud club great again. As a coach of elite swimming, I for one am awe of this guy!

Keep it up Simon, we are privileged to have you as our coach.

A drinking session, god forbid, they are mortals. Any rational on looker would observe that a wholesale approach to looking into habits is nessesary.

Max Gawn got caught smoking on the way to training. Hogan is on camera dancing at a music festival pulling moves impossible for someone straight/sober.

Hodge is the greatest leader in the modern era and has countless drinking indiscretions.

Except none of those came on the back of multiple 6 day breaks with injuries and all said players on call. They shouldn't have been drinking. Hodge has won multiple flags and has runs on the board. Kennedy and Kent are working to keep their careers afloat. Spencer has played 40 games in 7 years.

Very selfish by those involved and particularly disappointing for JKH as he just signed a new contract and was close to selection.

Well done Goodwin on drawing a line in the sand, hope all have learned their lessons.

So who at channel 7 and the HS reads Demonland as I assume this is where the story broke! They did the team and themselves no favours and explains why White was selected and Dion Johnstone was an emergency. I am sure when they had the session they didn't know Salem and Kent would be out. I don't think is was a little drink either if they were noticeably untidy at the next training session. Maybe they didn't think they would be noticed.

Very brave of the club to draw a line in the sand re behaviour as it was clearly going to impact on the Swans game and team selection.

Anyone know what the club rules are? I would have assumed beers are OK after a Saturday game - Bernie's 200th springs to mind. I am genuinely intrigued as to what the rule is.

Not sure if there's a standard rule but there was a specific protocol through the 4 games in 18 days period.  Perhaps they thought it ought not reasonably apply to them as they stayed behind in Melbourne...

I'd expect it would vary according to variables such as days between games, when recovery sessions are scheduled, injuries etc

We don't know what this "drinking session" consisted of but I doubt they were just sharing a slab over a BBQ.

If the players got on the turps after Bernie's 200th vs Adelaide, it would certainly explain why we were so flat against the 17th place North the following week.

I'm of the understanding that the players are permitted to get on the sauce after a game provided we have at least an 8 day break until the next game.

surprised it was 3 players who really havent established themselves in our best 22. Spencer Im most surprised about. Thought he'd have more brains and sense than that.

JKH would have been a walk up start to replace Jeffy. What an idiot. They probably didnt think they would get found out. Im guessing after all these 6 day breaks a ban was put inplace not to go over the top with the drinking.

These players are just as dumb as the freo player during the week told the club he had to leave training early because he felt ill only to go surfing with his mates.

Anybody actually know the facts on here, the Club obviously did and metered out what they thought was an appropiate penalty

Done and dusted in house, move on

Totally. Give the poor blokes a chance. They are all just struggling young people earning 150k+ a year whose salaries we all pay through our memberships.

How dare we hold them to account.

That just sounds like envy, what posters think of their actions counts for very little, same as their playing abilities

Unless you are 1 of the 4 you have no idea what occurred

The club has handled it

This gives me enormous faith in the direction of the club.

Didnt use it as an excuse before, during or directly after the loss.

Gave those players a real whack when it would have been easier not too.

This will be the making of us as a footy club. Successful clubs act this way.

    DISCO INFERNO by Whispering Jack

Two weeks ago, when the curtain came down on Melbourne’s game against the Brisbane Lions, the team trudged off the MCG looking tired and despondent at the end of a tough run of games played in quick succession. In the days that followed, the fans wanted answers about their team’s lamentable performance that night and foremost among their concerns was whether the loss was a one off result of fatigue or was it due to other factor(s) of far greater consequence.  As it turns out, the answer to

TIGERS PUNT CASEY by KC from Casey

The afternoon atmosphere at the Swinburne Centre was somewhat surreal as the game between Richmond VFL and the Casey Demons unfolded on what was really a normal work day for most Melburnians. The Yarra Park precinct marched to the rhythm of city life, the trains rolled by, pedestrians walked by with their dogs and the traffic on Punt Road and Brunton Avenue swirled past while inside the arena, a football battle ensued. And what a battle it was? The Tigers came in with a record of two wins f

It's Game Day and the Demons once again open the round of football with their annual clash against Richmond on ANZAC Eve. The Tigers, coached by former Dees champion and Premiership assistant coach Adem Yze have a plethora of stars missing due to injury but beware the wounded Tiger. The Dees will have to be switched on tonight. A win will keep them in the hunt for the Top 4 whilst a loss could see them fall out of the 8 for the first time since 2020.

    OOZEE by The Oracle

There’s a touch of irony in the fact that Adem Yze played his first game for Melbourne in Round 13, 1995 against the club he now coaches. For that game, he wore the number 44 guernsey and got six touches in a game the team won by 11 points.  The man whose first name was often misspelled, soon changed to the number 13 and it turned out lucky for him. He became a highly revered Demon with a record of 271 games during which his presence was acknowledged by the fans with the chant of “Oozee” wh
