I hope so. I don't think his time at the dogs has much to do with the way they play now. Totally different game style with what looks like a hell of a lot of self belief. Most players say its the new coach and new captain. The new captain is, imo, very important as its well known that Ryan Griffen did not want it where as Bob Murphy seems to be inspiration by just being there. Have heard that Macca is a good developer of youngsters and with about 15 under 25 he has plenty to work with.

The dogs current form is driven by the young players who Macca developed for 3 years. Surely his influence has a large bearing on how those players are performing now?

We argue that Neeld stunted the development of our players, this they need more time. If you subscribe to that you also need to acknowledge that Macca gets credit for development at the dogs

if true, this is a good win to hear for young toump.

I hope so... he needs some more time & plenty of en-courage-ment. the kid has it, he just needs to find it, in himself. he Will.

Why now.

Was there no interest from other clubs.

Would want to be on minimum wage.

Why not one year.

Struggling in the VFL.

How many can we carry.

We got it wrong to start with and I think we've got it wrong again.

Happy to be wrong.

Im on the opposite end of the spectrum here.

I believe the club has given him adequate time to show something, anything... and he has yet to do that.

Not good enough for mine. A costly draft pick and now even costlier hanging onto him hoping that he will become something.

Well you would be cutting off your noise to spite your face then wouldn't you. If he OOC which I think he was, you would be happy for him to walk into the draft?? Probably best to think before posting.

I guess someone at our club who know a lot more about Jimmy and about football development than most if not all posters on this forum sees something in him that some posters here don't see.

(For what little my opinion is worth, ie zero, I am a little surprised at two years.)

Such is life in the real world.

I seriously hope that ALL posters here wish him well and offer him their support if this rumour is true.

Just when you think the club can't get any worse they go and do this. This has to be on par with that Terlich extension if not worse

Performance Based i certainly hope...

I reckon it would be a very low base contract. Toumpas was on very shaky ground, he would've probably known this himself and settled for a low salary contract to try and resurrect his career.

Given it is a shallow draft and we would've got next to nothing for him if we were to trade him, his upside would be of more benefit to us than say a pick 60+ in this draft.

Agree with that. But 2 years??

I would have given him one and said "Pull the finger out Jimmy...up to you now"

I thought they might hold off on signing him so he could be used as a deal sweatener along with a draft pick for a possible Lynch deal with Adelaide. That said contracted players can still be signed if they consent to it

It takes some players 4 or 5 years for the penny to drop. The Toump must be one of them. Coaches obviously think he will turn out a good player - lets hope they are right!!

He will be on modest money and wouldn't be worth much in a trade. Has had much of his early career ruined by injury but works hard and has a great attitude. I'm more than happy for the FD to show some confidence in him at this stage - confidence is clearly what he is most lacking.

As if we have money to waste!! Well done Dees.. One thing we are actually good at!

Just gives me another reason not to renew membership!

Jolly good show, old chaps! What! Yes jolly good!

Wouldn't be the first player to take until his 4th or 5th year to come on.

If he had trade value then I'd say trade him, but the reality is he likely doesn't. Let's back the kid in

Better to give him a modest 2 year contract than trade him for pick 198

He is still young and has some good traits. Would be silly to let go of him when there are so many ahead of him in the delist line.

Wont lie, this actually causes me some concern.

Although he certainly has shown something, I think the biggest worry with Jimmy is his clear lack of confidence.

What I mean by that, is that surely it's no coincidence, that because it was his man in his break out game that kicked the winning goal, that Jimmy went straight back into his shell in the following weeks.

I hope he makes it, I really do. But personally I thought now was the time to trade him.

Demonland Trackwatchers braved the sweltering heat to bring you their Preseason Training observations from Gosch's Paddock on Monday morning. SCOOP JUNIOR'S PRESEASON TRAINING OBSERVATIONS I went down today in what were pretty ordinary conditions - hot and windy. When I got there, they were doing repeat simulations of a stoppage on the wing and then moving the ball inside 50. There seemed to be an emphasis on handballing out of the stoppage, usually there were 3 or 4 handballs to

WAYNE WUSSELL'S PRESEASON TRAINING OBSERVATIONS Rehab: Lever, Spargo, McAdam, Lindsay, Brown Sinnema is excellent by foot and has a decent vertical leap. Windsor is training with the Defenders. Windsor's run won't be lost playing off half back. In 19 games in 2024 he kicked 8 goals as a winger. I see him getting shots at g

BEST OF THE REST by Meggs

Meggs' Review of Melbourne's AFLW Season 9 ... Congratulations first off to the North Melbourne Kangaroos on winning the 2024 AFLW Premiership. Roos Coach Darren Crocker has assembled a team chock-full of competitive and highly skilful players who outclassed the Brisbane Lions in the Grand Final to remain undefeated throughout Season 9. A huge achievement in what was a dominant season by North. For Melbourne fans, the season was unfortunately one of frustration and disappointment
