Demonland has made the difficult decision to not permit this platform to be used to discuss & debate the off-field issues relating to the Melbourne Football Club including matters currently being litigated between the Club & former Board members, board elections, the issue of illicit drugs in footy, the culture at the club & the personal issues & allegations against some of our players & officials ...

We do not take these issues & this decision lightly & of course we believe that these serious matters affecting the club we love & are so passionate about are worthy of discussion & debate & I wish we could provide a place where these matters can be discussed in a civil & respectful manner.

However these discussions unfortunately invariably devolve into areas that may be defamatory, libelous, spread unsubstantiated rumours & can effect the mental health of those involved. Even discussion & debate of known facts or media reports can lead to finger pointing, blame & personal attacks.

The repercussion is that these discussions can open this website, it’s owners & it’s users to legal action & may result in this website being forced to shutdown.

I am sick of clubs like Melbourne being treated as "Academies" to develop players for the top/rich clubs to raid.

Hope like hell he stays but not on a ridiculously high pay packet - but a good fair one - he is a gun player for mine.

Tim Watson on SEN this morning has said he's good mates with someone involved in a recruitment/list management role at an AFL club and he has told him there has absolutely been calls from Howe's manager about a possible move.

I have it on excellent authority that Howe's manager (Nial) has a total of six players on his books...and four of them have been traded.

Why wouldn't he stay? With Petracca, Trengove etc coming into the mix next year, he has as much chance of being involved in a Premiership with Melbourne as with any other Club.

They just spoke about it on talking footy. Im confused. On the weekend it was reported howe saying he wants to stay at melbourne and begin to talk about a new deal within weeks but when a reporter spoke to his manager today he said Jeremy will wait until the end of the year.

Tim then bought up again a about the recruiter that received a phone call from his manager and that price tag.

Ling said there is no way you would pay him 650,000 and melbourne need money to pay Hogan when he comes out of contract and the other youngsters.

If you actually go to his managers website he has his email and mob number. Not that im saying you start ringing him and being stupid, but I dont think there would be to many managers putting there personal details out there.

also notices he manages dawes and lumumba.

Interestingly when the final siren blew there was a close up of a D's player lying on the ground with their hands over their face and they looked like they were crying. I thought it looked like Garland. For some reason it was shown and there was no comment by the commentators. Did anyone else see this. I thought it was really odd. If it was Col I was wondering what was going on.

When I heard this, I wondered whether Watson would have made it public if an Essendon player was involved. Watson understands how destabilising these sorts of comments are, and I sometimes wonder whether other clubs leak out info in order to create angst between the player involved and their club.

We all know that clubs are now getting into players from other clubs during the season via their manager, and the leaks may be a deliberate ploy to fracture the player/club relationship.

Tim works in the Media, it's his job to speculate, set the agenda, talk about what he has heard. The destabilisation debate is s myth I reckon. A cheap excuse to make when things are not going well. I don't think the Frawley speculation hindered us or him one bit. My opinion only.

I think it hindered him but it probably helped us and Tommy Mc in particular. Tommy had to step up and be the main man and that's been a real positive for him and has played some part in his current form.

I don't think the speculation is helping Aish in Brisbane but then again it could be 2nd year blues.

I saw it last night. Ling came straight out and basically laughed off the 650 tag and said that we will need those bickies for Hoges and other youngsters, and Howe-being a loose Blackman of sorts- was not worth that, and I agree with the ginger one 100%.

On another note Howes manager looked like it was the first time he put on a suit and just came from the Dandy Centrelink. He looks like a weasel who will play games. Again as I've previously said, if he can be used as a bargaining tool in luring another high quality mid we deal.

Given how we made off From losing Frawley in Brayshaw. And balanced losing Clark in Lamumba. I'm confident that Roos, Jackson and co have the situation well in hand.

That's his job,. To get the player the most he can.

We had better learn to live with it even though we don't like it.

Strange that his manager would say he's open to a move and Jeremy would say he 100% wants to stay, mixed messages make them both look a bit silly to me, especially if Jeremy ends up leaving.

a player manager is a bit like a real estate agent or financial consultant

who does he truly represent, you or himself. classic conflict of interest

Love to keep him but, positionally speaking, if you are spending 5.5%-6% on a HBF, he better be Hodge-like.

I like him as a player but you don't build a list by spending that much of the cap on a HBF - again, the easiest place to play on the field, and the most easily replaceable.

Maybe essendon is the club who might want him! Then Watson would have an (ulterior) motive for making his info public. Sadly, I've lost respect for Watson over the last few months, so wouldn't put it past him.

I'd be more worried about building a war chest of sorts for the likes of Hogan (2018) McDonald (2018) Brayshaw, Petracca, Tyson, Viney. Howe was given his chance by Melbourne an owes them alot. Including a couple of cars. He is also coming off a couple of ordinary seasons. He should be rated on his B&F performances before commanding big $$. If he wants to go and the price is right, the current business environment says let him go. I'd prefer him to stay, but door is open.

500k ( after tax 270k ) per year is $5182 per week ( including super ) not bad Jezza . Im sure they have good accountants that reduce thetax rate .

How does he owe MFC a couple of cars? He took the marks.

Maybe this should be in the John Burns thread.

I do like Howe. Let's face it if it wasn't for his appearance on mark of the week 28 times in 2013 there may be even less of us Melbourne supporters alive today.

But where is he in the pecking order of players we would like to keep?

I don't think anyone here would have him before;

Jones

Tyson

Vince

Hogan

McDonald and

Salem

And personally I'd have

Viney

Jetta

Dunn

Dawes

Garlett

Watts

Lumumba

Brayshaw

VanDemon and rolling the dice

Petracca

Now obviously a few of those players who are early in their career are not going to get paid as much as Howe. And that list is very subjective but you could easily argue that he is outside our top ten players and thus would be paid according to that scale

Really I can't see any club paying big dollars for him aside from GWS who may do so because, unlike Israel Folau, he is both marketable and can play footy to a good AFL standard.

I believe he will stay.

LEADERS OF THE PACK by The Oracle

I was asked to write a preview of this week’s Round 8 match between Melbourne and Geelong. The two clubs have a history that goes right back to the time when the game was starting to become an organised sport but it’s the present that makes the task of previewing this contest so interesting. Both clubs recently reached the pinnacle of the competition winning premiership flags in 2021 and 2022 respectively, but before the start of this season, many good judges felt their time had passed - n

    TRAINING: Monday 29th April 2024

Demonland Trackwatcher Kev Martin was on hand at Gosch's Paddock for Monday's training session and made the following observations. About 38 to 40  players down at training.  BBB walking laps.  Charlie Spargo still in rehab, doing short run throughs.  Christian Salem has full kit on and doing individual work with a trainer. He is is starting to get into some sprints. I cannot see Andy Moniz-Wakefield out there. Jack Viney and Kade Chandler have broken away from the

    DISCO INFERNO by Whispering Jack

Two weeks ago, when the curtain came down on Melbourne’s game against the Brisbane Lions, the team trudged off the MCG looking tired and despondent at the end of a tough run of games played in quick succession. In the days that followed, the fans wanted answers about their team’s lamentable performance that night and foremost among their concerns was whether the loss was a one off result of fatigue or was it due to other factor(s) of far greater consequence.  As it turns out, the answer to

TIGERS PUNT CASEY by KC from Casey

The afternoon atmosphere at the Swinburne Centre was somewhat surreal as the game between Richmond VFL and the Casey Demons unfolded on what was really a normal work day for most Melburnians. The Yarra Park precinct marched to the rhythm of city life, the trains rolled by, pedestrians walked by with their dogs and the traffic on Punt Road and Brunton Avenue swirled past while inside the arena, a football battle ensued. And what a battle it was? The Tigers came in with a record of two wins f
