And I think we got gold in the men's marathon? Where were the Kenyans?

No excuses for Jack Trengove not to be the fittest player in the AFL.

(What someone had to say it).

I think we are all hoping his past 2 ordinary seasons have been because of an undiagnosed foot problem thats now hopefully fixed. If he can get back to the player he was and was promising to be in 2011, it will be a huge boost for us

and well done Jess

In second place, but possibly the Comm games doesn't mean much for them. Not when they have Olympic, World Champ and fame/money on the line in winning some of the worlds more lucrative marathons.

My (limited) understanding on marathons is you can only run so many per 6 months/year as they take such a toll. A bit like horse racing you really have to set yourself for particular races as grand finals.

Which is probably why Trengove did such a good job as she had a foot injury and did really well at the last world champs. She wasn't far behind the female Kenyans so lets hope she can bridge the gap and maybe do something amazing in Rio.

Go you good thing! Fantastic effort Jess. Running beautifully right to the end and finishing with a PB! Not to mention a Bronze medal.

And congrats also to Micheal Shelley for winning Gold in the men's marathon.

Great day for Australian marathon runners.

I'm worried about her acceleration.

I'm sure she used to run so much faster in years gone by.

Great effort Jess and agree with one of the previous posters a bit of the old East German breeding method wouldn't go amiss, another Viney under the FS coming from good stock

Can we claim jess's victory as our own, because of Jack? Its weird how I have feelings of pride, like we won something...lol... Congrats to the Trengove's!!

There's already been cheap shots at Jack here about his running...smh... Jeez... I'm sure there will be more, but really give it a rest... Jack has been playing with stress fractures in his foot for almost two years... The club should have this picked up earlier, they are at fault here... Not Jack... Its half arsed development and half arsed rehab, down at our club... Lol..

Fantastic news - well done Jess. I aspired to complete a marathon but only ever finished a half. Had foot surgery three years ago and advised never to run again. Must be a Melbourne thing!

Sorry to hear about your foot Jane. Old age stopped my running career but I have found a great substitute in cycling( leisurely pace of course). Give it a go if you already haven't done so. Go Demons!!

    UNBACKABLE by The Oracle

They’re billing the Brisbane Lions as a sleeping giant — the best team outside the top eight —and based on their form this month they’re a definite contender for September AFL action. Which is not exactly the best of news if you happen to be Melbourne, the visiting team this week up at the Gabba.  Even though they are placed ahead of their opponent on the AFL table, and they managed to stave off defeat in their last round victory over North Melbourne, this week’s visitors to the Sunshi

    WILDCARDS by KC from Casey

Casey’s season continued to drift into helplessness on Sunday when they lost another home game by a narrow margin, this time six points, in their Round 13 clash with North Melbourne’s VFL combination. The game was in stunning contrast to their last meeting at the same venue when Casey won the VFL Wildcard Match by 101 points. Back then, their standout players were Brodie Grundy and James Jordon who are starring in the AFL with ladder leaders, the Sydney Swans (it turned out to be their last

    LIFE SUPPORT by Whispering Jack

With Melbourne’s season hanging on a thread, Saturday night’s game against North Melbourne unfolded like a scene in a hospital emergency department.  The patient presented to the ward in a bad way. Doctors and nurses pumped life-saving medication into his body and, in the ensuing half hour, he responded with blood returning to his cheeks as he stirred back to life. After a slight relapse, the nurses pumped further medication into the bloodstream and the prognosis started looking good as the
