  1. A callous, self-absorbed, money grubbing little scumbag. AND I don’t like him.

  2. Give him time. He's had only 2 games with us and hasn't played much footy over the last couple of years. Will get a mix of Casey and senior games this season (injuries permitting). Was a sensation in his 2nd year, that ability doesn't just disappear. Only a fool would write him off at this stage

  3. One coach gave Jones the 5 votes, the other gave him 4.

  4. My mate’s dad passed away late last year (64 year member). I called the club to let them know and they rapidly arranged a card for the family (also long term members). Subtle, classy and excellent customer service I thought.

  5. there's good and bad with Melksham. he's not overly quick, plays up a bit for frees, doesn't chase very hard/puts in token efforts at times when the oppo has the ball, and can be a bit hungry around goals. but he is also very good 1 on 1, a good decision maker, doesn't get sucked into the contest like most our guys, and is our best user of the footy going inside 50 in a team full of bang it on the boot specialists. as long as he's getting the ball and using it well he stays in the team imo.

  6. Such as when Hurley hit him in the head (accidentally) when spoiling a marking attempt, followed by grabbing him over the shoulder and finally pushing him in the back. All in the same contest, but in separate, clearly visible movements. Play on called as the ball went over the boundary line. (That game had the worst umpiring of any game I have seen in the last 5 years. And it wasn't just Melbourne supporters who thought so. The media also spoke about it during and after the game.)

  7. The cap was our matchwinner. Slotted two crucial, momentum shifting goals in the second and then had the calmness to kick the sealer in the last. Full votes from me.

  8. I watched the replay for the first time in yonks - and I'm afraid I have to agree with a few of the disagreeable folk on here; we were mostly [censored] and Jones was actually horrible despite providing on-field inspiration for the first time that I can recall. Omac on the other hand wasn't as bad as I thought, although him spending a massive chunk of time off the ground probably helped as to this perception. This however is possibly what you want most from a third-string defender - simply to not see them during the match, and maybe Oscar has found his true calling as a bench-warmer. Stretch, in a similar sense, was a revelation, in largely going unnoticed rather than getting in the way and [censored] it up a la ANB. (Please note: I love ANB, in the same way I loved Fitzy). Otherwise, I'll be first to admit that I have no real idea of which Wagner is which when the ball is in play - especially when one or more of them share a Hitler youth haircut with Spargo - but the most [censored] of them can give way for Jetta, while the other less [censored] one of them can come out for Garlett, although I suspect one of them had a relatively decent game. Out: the entire Wagner family In: Garlett and Jetta. Lucky: Jones and Omac and Hibberd and Stretch and Spargo (the new Pedo with a 75% W/L record) Not lucky but needs a rev-up: Melksham and still Tmac Unlucky: Keilty and Lockhart Not unlucky: ANB and Petty Can wait: Lewis and May

  9. Agreed. Future 4th round is what the hawks paid. Super shadey that deal. Nominates hawthorn “ because of their record with treating injuries” all the talk is of no Scully fr 2019 or most of it... or that he may never play again. Then viola he’s playing round frikn 2. Meaning he must have known the injury wasn’t that bad. I don’t mind players nominating a club and the club paying what the player is worth but that deal was utter deception. If it happened to us I’d be going off my nuts. Scully is the worst with [censored] like this.... keeps inventing new lows fr himself. I’m amazed there has not been more spotlight on this.

  10. Nice of you to give him a bit of time... please remind me of how long he’s been with the club and how many games he’s played at any level.

  11. Injuries aside the Suns did not fight hard to keep KK. Was a little surprised by all those who over the pre season had him as an automatic best 22. He might make it but at present he is just showing how bad our fringe players in this area are. Can anyone remind me how long the initial signing was of KK. Hope he makes it but I'm not hanging out for it. Same for that matter goes for Stretch who we all hope makes it but the signs aren't good.

  12. +1 Podcast removal from mobile site, I like to listen to cool soothing tunes whilst reading demonland on the bus and the podcast accidentally starts frequently. Could I say that I am thoroughly enjoying the podcast each week, you guys are doing a great job!!! Question for possible discussion. How many players should we rotate in/out of the side given the short turn around between saints and Richmond. Given many posters think some “depth” players are like for like replacements, should we opt for fresh legs or play the best available side. Keep up the good work.

  13. At first blush the Joel Smith situation is a disgrace. Quite likely if he was removed from the ground in the JLT game when he hurt himself, the injury would have been less severe.

  15. Perhaps they could just apply common sense and stop taking risks with players who have a history of being injury prone....

  16. People have extremely short memories. Nathan Jones carried our midfield along with Oliver for the first third of last year while Viney was out injured and before Brayshaw and Harmes emerged. He's still 5th best starting midfield option and won 4 clearances and 11 contested possessions against the Swans. One in game injury to any of those first 4 and he's in there full-time.

  17. @stevethemanjordan - if ‘old man natedog who should retire and relinquish captaincy’ can jag 3 goals running off him - then he has limited pace ?

  18. Very handy was our Frosty, working on one of the best thinkers in the game and contrary to some opinion, executed it all with aplomb due to his own clear thought resourcefulness. Without the standardised 'panic' down back (who's going to back up for OMac this time and clear the ball from the hot zones because Oscar never will), Frosty is going to be a huge asset and clearance machine and if OMac gets three years to improve/master his craft just as the same tolerance works for the Weed up the other end, then it is only fair for Frosty to have the same orientation time to these roles. Beating Buddy twice in a row is highly commendable. Onyer, Big Ears!

  24. In fairness that is a throwback from an era where our VFL team would probably beat our AFL team.

  25. And maybe I need to repeat myself. I'm neither negative nor pessimistic. I'm realistic. I don't drink the Koolaid that's de rigueur around here for many. Collingwood is a brand unto themselves. Well done filth. I envy them. But they HAVE tasted real success in modern football. Richmond have a very parochial following born out of their actual suburb and identifying withe the Punt Road ideal. We suffer as we have no real home, no real roots,no real anything anymore. Whenever we've put something out there...I E an item ( emphasis on AN) Of clever marketing or promotional verve...it's left orphaned. Ridiculous. Amateurish really. If Pert wants 70k ( plus ) two things are required.... Real success, and creating an identity that has meaning. So far we have neither... that's just what is.

  26. If I'm honest, I think this is pretty uncreative compared to the previous years. It looks like a blend of our home and clash guernsey with the light blue blending into navy blue with the names added onto the back.

  30. That is a pathetically low crowd if it eventuates. Particularly for 2 Melbourne clubs on a Saturday. This would mean our rd 1 against Port drew a bigger crowd. As a club, I think we need to start pumping up our games a bit more and stressing the importance of attendance.

  32. Agree Jim, Over 12 months the effectiveness of our game plan has been uncertain. It appears easier for opposition coaches and players to exploit our game plan than the other way around.

  34. I've had reason to call them several times in the past six months and, whilst I feel the people taking the call are doing their best, there is something seriously wrong with the process at present. I signed my son up for the first time this year (well before the start of the season) and they really had no idea where his membership pack was, whether it had been sent or whose responsibility it was. Eventually they gave him a free pass for the first game when his membership didn't arrive in time, but nobody is taking responsibility for these problems. Outsourcing the production and distribution to companies who provide sub-standard products and poor communication with no accountability reflects badly on the club. Hopefully they bring some of this back in-house next year.

  35. 666 has not given a great advantage to sides that win the centre clearance. Rather it has hindered sides counter attacking from defence that lose the clearance. Many goals last season were scored this way. No spare man or overlap opportunities to rebound. Game gets bottled up between half back and the middle.

  37. OOC at seasons end and may be open to a move to Victoria as his partner is from here and reportedly unsettled on GC. Was keen on getting to Bombers last year, but scuppered by Shiel deal.

  38. The club was great during finals in assisting and communicating with the fans. Their social media was great too. This year it seems to be severely lacking. I had membership issues and didn't get my kids memberships for Christmas as promised and the communication was terrible. I also think they have cut costs in their online presence in 2019. They were far superior than other clubs last year but this year they are lagging behind the rest of the league.

  39. I’ve been relentlessly crank calling them over the first 3 rounds, probably why no one can get through.

  40. I think they've improved out of sight over the past couple of years - particularly given the volume uplift in members they've had to deal with.

  41. I don't think I've ever had to call the club, other than to sign up my daughters when they were born. Never had an issue. That's not to say others don't, but I don't think we should be painting the 'club communication' as all doom and gloom.

  42. Whoever we target it's time to start targeting them before the price shoots up. May may be great for us but like Lever came at a heavy cost if they work out great. I like the deals Carlton have done to get Plowman and Marchbank in. I like both players. Having said that both Hibberd and Melksham were good deals which I think the club won

  45. Need to get over our obsession with inside mids and intercept defenders for a start: any danger we could recruit a forward?

  46. Jamie Elliot ?? 26 years old and a restricted (?) free agent From the official Collingwood site... "A small forward with incredible strength and speed, Elliott marks unbelievably well for his size. His style of play has seen comparisons drawn with Paul Medhurst and Stephen Milne, but it is through his tackling and defensive work in attack that he has impressed his coaches "

  47. Oh and finally, with an ordinary ruck, expect Saints to shark Gawn and lead the centre clearances until half-time. Their midfield is also very potent as seen last week. It will be a battle in the middle - if we win that we’ll go a long way in giving us a chance to take the chocolates.

  49. We have to use our first round pick at draft, so no trading this year. It's free agency or trading low picks and average players. The club should throw the world at Coniglio. Land him as a free agent. Coniglio's a perfectly rounded midfielder. Has pace, agility, tackles like mad, can win ball inside, can do damage on the outside, and can kick multiple goals attacking through the flanks. He's still underrated and IMO is in the top 5-10 midfielders in the game at present. I'd trade anyone on our list for him bar Oliver. Unfortunately he'll likely stay at GWS or head home to WA. If we did acquire extra currency to trade, then Ed Langdon fits the bill for midfield pace. We've been into him for year, so perhaps this is the year we land him. McStay from the Lions would be good. Can play key forward or back, and would add to our tall forward depth.
