Demonland has made the difficult decision to not permit this platform to be used to discuss & debate the off-field issues relating to the Melbourne Football Club including matters currently being litigated between the Club & former Board members, board elections, the issue of illicit drugs in footy, the culture at the club & the personal issues & allegations against some of our players & officials ...

We do not take these issues & this decision lightly & of course we believe that these serious matters affecting the club we love & are so passionate about are worthy of discussion & debate & I wish we could provide a place where these matters can be discussed in a civil & respectful manner.

However these discussions unfortunately invariably devolve into areas that may be defamatory, libelous, spread unsubstantiated rumours & can effect the mental health of those involved. Even discussion & debate of known facts or media reports can lead to finger pointing, blame & personal attacks.

The repercussion is that these discussions can open this website, it’s owners & it’s users to legal action & may result in this website being forced to shutdown.

WE HAVE BUILT A FANTASTIC ONLINE COMMUNITY AT DEMONLAND OVER THE PAST 23 YEARS & WE WOULD LIKE TO CONTINUE TO BE ABLE TO DISCUSS THE CLUB WE LOVE & ARE SO PASSIONATE ABOUT.

I don’t care what you or others see, I’m not afraid what others are of saying. I say it as it is & don’t care if a player plays for us as I’m not sentimental on players. I don’t have favourite plays or care who comes & goes, it’s about winning. The whole attitude of loving an average player is the reason we were the worst sporting club in the country for over half a century, but that should be over now. I’m not denying he played AFL or 100 games, but majority of those were while we were pathetic to be honest. I also acknowledge that another club took him, but be realistic that club list is one of the worst seen in the modern area so it’s not saying much. I mean I didn’t hear Geelong, Swans, Pies chasing him, just junk clubs that are desperate. We clearly didn’t want him so I’m on the winning side of this conversation because he ain’t a Dees player anymore, which I’m happy with.

Look, for the last time, Jayden is sorry for running over your pet turtle.

Just gotta move on.

Serious question Picket, I can't get to a lot of games live. So what do you make of comments along the line of, He's often in good position but gets ignored ?

I'll start of by saying that I don't care how many pressure acts or set ups he has these stats are very very ordinary. Ok when he does get it he does tend to use it well, however he cannot kick more than 40 m, is slow, and doesn't hit the scoreboard enough. ( 10 Goals in 24 games)  In my view he was very lucky to hold his spot and I cannot see him being an integral part of the setup in 2023. I would want Chandler or Bedford in his position for the potentiality of scoreboard damage.

Regarding him being in good spots and being ignored, I would say no more or less than anyone else, and given Melbournes Penchant for bombing long and indescriminately into the forward line, any number of players could be in better positions and get ignored.

Sydney were apparently keen on Joel Smith who now is in line to be Hunt’s replacement. And is a downgrade. Next after him is Judd McVee and if you reckon Hunt doesn’t get much of the ball pray that McVee doesn’t play at half back next year.

And yeah we get a 3rd round pick, a round that JT hasn’t found a good player in since Hunt! We might draft another Rosman, that will help.

I don’t think we’ve turned the list over enough and I don’t think losing Hunt is a disaster, but it’s highly unlikely to be some great move for us. The reasons we were rubbish for 50 years were far more related to poor culture and poor top end talent than keeping depth players.

By the way, Hunt debuted in 2016, a year in which we won 10 games. The only year we were really bad was in 2019. Don’t act like he played 100 games between 07-14.

So answer the question then, who would he replace and get a game with? He was Carried this year, avg 12 possesions, thats right 12 per game and rarely hits the scoreboard as a forward usually should.

I answered your question ,all of them.If you watched the games he was often playing up field making space in the forward line, most likely under Goodys instructions

There’s an awful lot of people who seem to love to criticise everything the club does.

We don’t turn over the list! No one wants to come to us! Why are we allowing this player to leave! Why are we recruiting that guy!

Have a little faith. Our winning percentage over the last few years is insanely good, and we have an excellent track record of recruiting and trading well.

I honestly don’t know how some of you survived as Melbourne supporters. This is the best team, and club culture, I’ve seen in my lifetime.

Honest player and good clubman. Not surprised to see him get a better offer elsewhere given we have the depth to cover his role imo -  probably a reasonable outcome for all

From a list management perspective letting Hunt go makes sense. He'd command probably 400 - 450k on a 3 year deal and we don't want to end up in a position where we cannot afford to pay our young talent as they establish themselves. Also with bringing in Grundy we will also reach out 3 x man bun / head band limit so if Hunt were to stay then one of he, Grundy, Langdon or Brown would need to shave their heads.

I will miss the Running Headband and i wish Jayden all the best. I am glad he has another Contract in AFL.

In 7 Seasons he played some great footy for us, but he never nailed a position and he was obviously near the edge of the 22 named. Last year he was dead stiff and it is sad, but these situations happen every year in Footy.
Hunty is a Demon always, but we need to keep improving. Hopefully Bedford can step up at 22

Good Luck Jayden

Gutted by this, the football management team have no idea.

We lost a few games sure, but the reason behind them had nothing to with Hunty, Scapegoating time, let’s save our own [censored].

Hunt played 20 games but in a year that Salem was crueled by injury. He is at peak development and whilst he has assets he has deficiencies. A fit Salem and then a further year of development in Rivers and Bowey makes him surplus and not where we should put contract $$$ or length. This is before you consider who might pass him in 2024 or 2025. Loved watching him have some amazing moments with the assets he had but this is one of those list moves you need to do to tweak the 22 and turn the list.

My preference would have been to keep Hunt and offload Smith and or Melksham. I thought his game improved markedly in the last two years, particularly kicking despite the ungainly action. He was one of the few to lower the eyes on entering 50. I wish him the very best and will miss him and his afterburners.

I guess it would depend on what $$, and contract length,  he consumed in comparison with the other two (Smith, Melksham).  So hard to compare players when those factors have to be taken into account.  For example if all 3 asked for exactly the same 2-3 year contracts, then Melksham would clearly be at the bottom end of the three.

I wouldn't want to be a list manager - far too many variables to be taken onto account.  Would anyone here?

Didn't the club offer him a contract but he's gone looking for a longer/more lucrative one?

That makes sense. There is only so much of the cap we can afford to put into a player like Hunt, who has obvious strengths but clear weaknesses too, and in an area of the field in which we have good competition.

He's found a club who will pay him more money and/or over a longer time period and that is a better outcome for him than taking our offer and then battling with Bowey, Rivers, Smith, Salem and Hibberd (plus anyone else we bring in) for a spot.

I'd have had no problem with keeping him but fully understand why he's chosen to go elsewhere.

Mrs Dw spoke to him at the B&F, he didn't "chose" to go elsewhere he was really disappointed to be pushed out.

Yep I clearly am serious. The club & supporters accepted mediocrity & weren’t ruthless for far too many decades. There isn’t a player I would ever care that they punted if it made us better.

How is what supporters say on an independent website at all the club's position on players?

    DISCO INFERNO by Whispering Jack

Two weeks ago, when the curtain came down on Melbourne’s game against the Brisbane Lions, the team trudged off the MCG looking tired and despondent at the end of a tough run of games played in quick succession. In the days that followed, the fans wanted answers about their team’s lamentable performance that night and foremost among their concerns was whether the loss was a one off result of fatigue or was it due to other factor(s) of far greater consequence.  As it turns out, the answer to
