Discussion on recent allegations about the use of illicit drugs in football is forbidden
  • IMPORTANT: PLEASE READ BEFORE POSTING

Posting unsubstantiated rumours on this website is strictly forbidden.

Demonland has made the difficult decision to not permit this platform to be used to discuss & debate the off-field issues relating to the Melbourne Football Club including matters currently being litigated between the Club & former Board members, board elections, the issue of illicit drugs in footy, the culture at the club & the personal issues & allegations against some of our players & officials ...

We do not take these issues & this decision lightly & of course we believe that these serious matters affecting the club we love & are so passionate about are worthy of discussion & debate & I wish we could provide a place where these matters can be discussed in a civil & respectful manner.

However these discussions unfortunately invariably devolve into areas that may be defamatory, libelous, spread unsubstantiated rumours & can effect the mental health of those involved. Even discussion & debate of known facts or media reports can lead to finger pointing, blame & personal attacks.

The repercussion is that these discussions can open this website, it’s owners & it’s users to legal action & may result in this website being forced to shutdown.

Our moderating team are all volunteers & cannot moderate the forum 24/7 & as a consequence problematic content that contravenes our rules & standards may go unnoticed for some time before it can be removed.

We reserve the right to delete posts that offend against our above policy & indeed, to ban posters who are repeat offenders or who breach our code of conduct.

WE HAVE BUILT A FANTASTIC ONLINE COMMUNITY AT DEMONLAND OVER THE PAST 23 YEARS & WE WOULD LIKE TO CONTINUE TO BE ABLE TO DISCUSS THE CLUB WE LOVE & ARE SO PASSIONATE ABOUT.

Thank you for your continued support & understanding. Go Dees.

Collingwood - One trick pony

I can sort of half see why some may have the [censored] with Ed and his comment.

Me personally? I [censored] love it. It's pure honesty, and adds more theatre to the game.

In this day and age where characters of the game have unfortunately died out and players are now trained up to be more like robots with stock standard cliché's, it's so refreshing to hear a player's perspective on what he genuinely thinks of a teams recent performance.

And yes, I'd be saying the exact saying thing if it was a Collingwood player doing the same thing to us.

If Collingwood need a few words to spark them up then that says more about them.

I can tell you one thing, if we lose tomorrow night, it certainly won't be because of a few words thrown out by Langdon.

More of this in our game I say.

Would of preferred Ed Langdon to be a bit more humble. Let our actions do the talking.

Anyway, it will definitely be a very tough and exciting game tomorrow night.

I genuinely despise Collingwood and their feral supporters.

I encourage as many Melbourne supporters as possible to show up!

GO DEMONS!!!

Langdon has probably made himself a target but he's said it so he can't take it back.

But look we haven't beaten them inawhile so maybe focus on that

Reckon he's sharpening the focus nicely.

Love that he has added a bit more spice to the game.

We are going to be brutal this week, we want Collingwood to go hard at us, we need the test.

Who goes harder for longer?

I predict we are going to beat then by around 50 points.

Now is the time to get in opponents head...FInals are coming!

Yeah I can understand people's concerns but I think there's a touch of MFCSS about them too, which I understand even more.

Apart from some words Ed could have used differently like 'all duck no dinner' and 'one trick pony' I saw his comments and praise for the opposition. He said when the game is on their terms they are real hard to stop (compliment) and said we need to try and dampen it (respect). I took this as suggesting we needed to be on our game.

The question is pertinent though, if they beat us with fast movement and chaos then he won't be proven wrong. Let's see them try to beat us another way if that way is taken from them, we believe in our system and I'm glad Ed believes in it too.

Collingwood is a hard running team, I kind of thought that was our trick as well

They haven't introduced tenpo control to their game yet.

I say yet, because I'm sure they will at some point.

The other big difference to us is they rely on moving the ball quick and aggressively for their scoring.

Langers is right - that represents a structural weakness in their method.

Take it away and they will struggle to kick a winning score.

But they are likely to keep trying to go fast, which means they are likely to turn it over heaps. That might be ok against orher teams, but we will prey on, and punish turnovers. Which is how we generate most of our scoring.

The only way to take that away from us is not turn it over. And the only way of avoiding that, if we are on, is play safe  don't take risks (eg take on the corridor) and go down the line. Which is what we want.

Catch 22.

We will smash them.

I agree, @layzie

Ed strikes me as quite a grounded guy but it seems like he isn't as nuanced at the media as others (or rather that the subsequent response from the media misses the nuance!).  This brings to mind that time he was seen as slagging off his ex coach at Freo last year.  Foot in mouth, even though he's not trying to be disrespectful!

It’s not smart, I’d rather if he was going to say those things that we were A. In a good stretch of form, B. He actually got a kick and not slaughtered by a grandfather and C. Can actually take the hits he will get, he doesn’t bounce the best.

Don’t like it all. What’s the protocol here. Would he be given the ok by the club or has he just gone off at the mouth. Can’t see the coaches being impressed unless there is some Machiavellian thinking going on. Should have remained humble and not comment on the opponent. Stupid.

I heard today the AFL were expecting a crowd of just over 60,000. Maybe this is a well thought out strategy to get that to close to 80,000 instead. Unfortunately if they attend hoping for a close one, they’re going to be disappointed.  Melbourne by 50+.

Actually the comments that struck me the most from his interview were;

"Our defence is definitely our biggest strength and to be honest we probably pride ourselves on making Friday night games pretty boring to watch for spectators. "

I wasn't bored last week! 🤣

I'd rather a 'boring' 90 points scored than 120 in a shoot out

I think he knew exactly what he was saying. The club would sanction every media contact the players had, so they would have known about this interview. And possibly what he was about to say. Mind games. Just watch Collingwood lose their focus a little tomorrow.

    DISCO INFERNO by Whispering Jack

Two weeks ago, when the curtain came down on Melbourne’s game against the Brisbane Lions, the team trudged off the MCG looking tired and despondent at the end of a tough run of games played in quick succession. In the days that followed, the fans wanted answers about their team’s lamentable performance that night and foremost among their concerns was whether the loss was a one off result of fatigue or was it due to other factor(s) of far greater consequence.  As it turns out, the answer to

TIGERS PUNT CASEY by KC from Casey

The afternoon atmosphere at the Swinburne Centre was somewhat surreal as the game between Richmond VFL and the Casey Demons unfolded on what was really a normal work day for most Melburnians. The Yarra Park precinct marched to the rhythm of city life, the trains rolled by, pedestrians walked by with their dogs and the traffic on Punt Road and Brunton Avenue swirled past while inside the arena, a football battle ensued. And what a battle it was? The Tigers came in with a record of two wins f

It's Game Day and the Demons once again open the round of football with their annual clash against Richmond on ANZAC Eve. The Tigers, coached by former Dees champion and Premiership assistant coach Adem Yze have a plethora of stars missing due to injury but beware the wounded Tiger. The Dees will have to be switched on tonight. A win will keep them in the hunt for the Top 4 whilst a loss could see them fall out of the 8 for the first time since 2020.

There’s a touch of irony in the fact that Adem Yze played his first game for Melbourne in Round 13, 1995 against the club he now coaches. For that game, he wore the number 44 guernsey and got six touches in a game the team won by 11 points.  The man whose first name was often misspelled, soon changed to the number 13 and it turned out lucky for him. He became a highly revered Demon with a record of 271 games during which his presence was acknowledged by the fans with the chant of “Oozee” wh
