Demonland has made the difficult decision to not permit this platform to be used to discuss & debate the off-field issues relating to the Melbourne Football Club including matters currently being litigated between the Club & former Board members, board elections, the issue of illicit drugs in footy, the culture at the club & the personal issues & allegations against some of our players & officials ...

We do not take these issues & this decision lightly & of course we believe that these serious matters affecting the club we love & are so passionate about are worthy of discussion & debate & I wish we could provide a place where these matters can be discussed in a civil & respectful manner.

However these discussions unfortunately invariably devolve into areas that may be defamatory, libelous, spread unsubstantiated rumours & can effect the mental health of those involved. Even discussion & debate of known facts or media reports can lead to finger pointing, blame & personal attacks.

The repercussion is that these discussions can open this website, it’s owners & it’s users to legal action & may result in this website being forced to shutdown.

Agreed.

Wished the Brisbane game was on a Friday night, but the AFL were always going to give us the Thursday night slot as both sides have a bye the week before.

I don't mind the 4:40pm Saturday though.

The AFL does not care about attendance on a Thursday night. It is all about TV ratings.

35K is a good crowd considering it’s the average attendance since 2000 between the 2 sides at the MCG, and then you factor Mothers Day.

100% agree, really good crowd under the circumstances I thought it would be less

On a positive note, there was a very healthy queue for memberships outside the ground and many, many little kids be-decked in the red and blue (inc. mine)  walking up Brunton Rd (obviously unaware of our injury list). We got our little Demon apparel at half-time.

We're a weird lot I reckon.

Seriously, the biggest contributing factor imo is that we have an ageing supporter base, the majority of whom either can't be bothered booking online or it's too much 'effort'.

Melbourne supporters are so weird, I was sitting MCC yesterday and the lack of energy, excitement and support from start to finish was just bizarre. I don't know if it's because we've been waiting for a challenge or that it was against a side everyone was assuming we'd beat but I'm sure it had some effect on the psyche of our players. Poor crowd and poor vibe.

Let's hope when they open back up to walk ins from round 12 we start seeing more oldies get to games and it bumps up the numbers.

Essendon v Freo at Docklands got 24k

Geelong v Freo at KP got 20k

So our 29k is 25% and 50% higher attendance than Fremantle's two other Victorian games this year.

Is it great for a tip 4 match up? No, I'd like more. But it is pretty much on par for AFL crowds in 2022.

30k against Fremantle at an odd Saturday twilight fixture time when crowd numbers are down due to COVID is a great effort.

In non COVID times we get 35-40k and a 1.45 or 7.30 slot. That's an excellent result.

Not so in the cheer squad, Jimmy!
It’s midnight on New Year’s Eve for the entirety of the match. 🥳 💥 🎉🥳

There's enough empty seats in the N53 section on level 2 of the Olympic Stand right now that a few of us that have dispersed reserved seats can sit together which is great. Queues for beers and the loos are short and getting in and out of the ground takes 5 minutes. It's not all bad having a flakey supporter base.

These issues are real, no doubt about it. For me, the major issue is dealing - or attempting to deal - with Ticketek. It seems long gone are the days when, as a member, you could very conveniently phone the Club (as an interstater) to book and credit card your payment with the assistance of some friendly Club employee meeting all your needs (and more). The alternative was just as easy: pay cash / card at the entry gate with a genuine MFC seating area of a very good standard. Personalised service is always preferred in this household - we have enough issues driving 900 kms to get to the MCG home ground, working out accommodation needs, preparing for the return journey and feeling satisfied with the low-budget commitments.

It recently took me nine days to get a Ticketek ticket/mobile phone icon just to watch one particular match - and the seats, shelter and facilities at the ground level area of the Southern Stand of the 'G left much to be desired.

I was sitting on level 2 MCC yesterday and there were quite a few children in Melbourne attire nearby, made me feel quite good!  However the 4.35 pm start on a Saturday afternoon was not great and I know a few supporters who gave up on the idea of attending and sat home by the fire with drink in hand and watched on Kayo!

Bring back Saturday arvo around 2.00pm and see attendances increase.

A lazy 75, 000 at the ‘G today. Carl vs. Collingwood. Yet their cheer squads are nowhere near as loud as ours.

so much for 'sold out'

29k was about 10k more than i was expecting tbh - terrible time for most on a cold melbourne day - and i'd guess that there was nowhere near 1000 freo fans there...i of course took one of them before heading out together for the evening

sigh

I genuinely reckon 2/3rds of all Melbourne club members this year brought memberships so they’d get finals tickets. Not many show up on game day - which is bizarre given where we’ve come from, and how good we’ve been the last few years.

I will say the apparel is moving. Hopefully the club is making its money there.

I don’t know. I reckon they had more than that. Or they were few, but very loud. Especially in the second half.

20 years (a generation) of us being crap and getting crap time slots and coverage during a period where the AFL has deliberately maximised revenue by scheduling the "big clubs" at the popular times. This has meant 25 years for those clubs to grow and gain supporters, whereas smaller supported clubs have suffered. This doesn't go away because we won the flag: we need a dynasty over 3-4 years, and a 10 year successful period winning, playing finals and attracting supporters before we even start to turn this around.

I hereby formally send a plea to our members to come to our home games, Please?

It wasn't funny to hear the Freo chants during the last quarter, specially when they were 2000 against 26000. 😔

Not withstanding having just got out of hospital and certainly unable to attend but using ticketek to get "prime" seats in nose bleed territory level four is just not on. I always seat level one,  M46 or level two but absolutely refuse level four. With my health lately (not Covid related) just better I stay at home. Will try for the Sydney game.

    GAMEDAY: Rd 09 vs Carlton

It's Game Day and the Demons are once again headlining another blockbuster at the MCG to kick off the round of footy. The Dees take on the Blues and have the opportunity to win their third game on the trot to solidify a spot in the Top 4 in addition to handing the Blues their third consecutive defeat to bundle them out of the Top 8.

    MELBOURNE BUSINESS by The Oracle

In days of old, this week’s Thursday night AFL match up between the Demons and the Blues would be framed on the basis of the need to redress the fact that Carlton “stole” last year’s semi final away from Melbourne and with it, their hopes for the premiership.  A hot gospelling coach might point out to his charges that they were the better team on the night in all facets and that poor kicking for goal and a couple of lapses at the death cost them what was rightfully theirs. Moreover, now was

UNDER THE PUMP by KC from Casey

The Casey Demons have been left languishing near the bottom of the VFL table after suffering a 32-point defeat at the hands of stand alone club Williamstown at Casey Fields on Sunday. The Demons suffered a major setback before the game even started when AFL listed players Ben Brown, Marty Hore and Josh Schache were withdrawn from the selected side. Only Schache was confirmed as an injury replacement, the other two held over as possible injury replacements for Melbourne’s Thursday night fixt

THE MEANING OF FOOTY by Whispering Jack

Throughout history various philosophers have grappled with the meaning of life. Aristotle, Aquinas, Kant, Nietzsche, Schopenhauer and a multitude of authors of diverse religious texts all tried. As society became more complex, the question became attached to specific endeavours in life even including sporting pursuits where such questions arose among our game’s commentariat as, “what is the meaning of football”? Melbourne coach Simon Goodwin must be tired of dealing with such a dilemma but,
