Discussion on recent allegations about the use of illicit drugs in football is forbidden
  • IMPORTANT: PLEASE READ BEFORE POSTING

Posting unsubstantiated rumours on this website is strictly forbidden.

Demonland has made the difficult decision to not permit this platform to be used to discuss & debate the off-field issues relating to the Melbourne Football Club including matters currently being litigated between the Club & former Board members, board elections, the issue of illicit drugs in footy, the culture at the club & the personal issues & allegations against some of our players & officials ...

We do not take these issues & this decision lightly & of course we believe that these serious matters affecting the club we love & are so passionate about are worthy of discussion & debate & I wish we could provide a place where these matters can be discussed in a civil & respectful manner.

However these discussions unfortunately invariably devolve into areas that may be defamatory, libelous, spread unsubstantiated rumours & can effect the mental health of those involved. Even discussion & debate of known facts or media reports can lead to finger pointing, blame & personal attacks.

The repercussion is that these discussions can open this website, it’s owners & it’s users to legal action & may result in this website being forced to shutdown.

Our moderating team are all volunteers & cannot moderate the forum 24/7 & as a consequence problematic content that contravenes our rules & standards may go unnoticed for some time before it can be removed.

We reserve the right to delete posts that offend against our above policy & indeed, to ban posters who are repeat offenders or who breach our code of conduct.

WE HAVE BUILT A FANTASTIC ONLINE COMMUNITY AT DEMONLAND OVER THE PAST 23 YEARS & WE WOULD LIKE TO CONTINUE TO BE ABLE TO DISCUSS THE CLUB WE LOVE & ARE SO PASSIONATE ABOUT.

Thank you for your continued support & understanding. Go Dees.

Dogs wasn't great for the opener but our fans definitely weren't at fault. Essendon game I thought was most disappointing.  Giants game was about as I expected. Last week too, but probably as a percentage more hawks fans than I would have thought.

I'm definitely making a point to get to all games off the flag whereas in the past I would accept missing a couple due to work

lots of moving of goal posts from people on here. It's not important because of tv ratings,  bad time slots. etc
bottom line is low attendance at the MCG costs the club lots of money.
All good if you are still worried about covid, that's fair I think.
But overall I think we all know that lots of our fans just don't turn up, and we're discovering that even a premiership won't make them.

No I don't think that's right at all based on the various stats posted throughout this thread.

I think the way Melbourne and St Kilda are performing this year, a crowd of 50,000 would have been achieved this weekend if it wasn't Mothers Day and a 1.10pm start. While I suspect Melbourne and St Kilda may never have had a crowd this large before, I question whether these two teams ever been genuine contenders at the same time?

Great question. Even if both were genuine contenders at the same time I can’t see huge crowds. Factor in one of the big Melbourne-based clubs, or WCE, then we’d see that level of attendance, and some.

I’m finding the indirect effects of Covid has been stopping me from getting to games. Too many births from iso activities, too many catch ups with people I haven’t seen because of travel, too many weddings which have been postponed for the past couple of years, and unfortunately too many deaths from family who wouldn’t go to doctors during that period which would have picked up some things. Overall, life just feel a bit busier as restrictions have ended and we’ve opened up.

Coming off covid myself this week, I’m finally - and rather selfishly - extremely excited to be going this weekend.

As a flow on to this discussion, is the club doing enough to entice the members to the game? Others have already spoken about game day experience, fears and expectations, I wont rehash. HOWEVER (in bold for effect0. I am interested in travelling to Alice Springs for the Round 18 clash with Port. Firstly (though no fault of the club) I have no idea which day of that weekend it's on, so arranging flights is like entering chook lotto (sorry chook). Secondly, I contacted the club to see if there are any organised packages by MFC for this fixture, and the reply was:

Thank you for contacting Melbourne membership.
We don't have any flight packages available for this game unfortunately.
Tickets are not yet on sale for this game, we will communicate with members closer to the date when these are available to purchase.
Thank you for supporting our club.
 Have a lovely day!
 Kind Regards,
 Chloe

This seems like a lost opportunity to fill Traeger park with Red and Blue.

Yes Dees vs Saints

H and A  all at MCG

1961    I think about 60, 000 won easily

1965    72,000 QB clash start of decline beaten by about 6 goals at least.

early 2000's    55,000 approx.Cam Bruce was BOG I reckon. 5 goals. Win by about 5/6 goals.

Never over about 40, 000 at Marvel in early 2,000's we lost by about 5/6 goals

It's no good having packages on sale without dates be fair to the Club it's an AFL issue largely. You would be furious if packages were on sale now and got the flight details wrong !!!

Its because of the floating fixture.

Why WCEagles ??? we have never ever had more than about 32,000 for a H and A game for those  flogs.

so good to see their gloating fans go through some pain now.  Must admit what a wonderful player Josh Kennedy  has been and 700 goals is a great achievement well earned.

BUT twice he should have been suspended or referred by the MRO for rough or illegal acts vs Dees and hasn't been in the last 6/7 years.

That's only starting what  about the umpires over the years?

HOWEVER we have had the last laugh I guess  with the wonderful prelim and Grand Final performances in 2021 and had majority crowd and our own fans support to see that magical 13th Flag!

Looking at the remaining home game schedule there is a possibility we could have just one or even no more day games after St Kilda.

The Port game is in Alice so it's irrelevant, and I'm sure at least one of the Collingwood and Carlton games will be at night.

Both I would say or 3.20 Sunday on FTA.

I get this (but don't totally agree), I don't understand why the AFL is holding back the date for this fixture. surely it wouldn't be that hard to make a commitment, and allow the clubs to organise travel for the fans. What's to be gained, delaying the date? It seems another case of who cares about the fans, as long as the TV guys are happy. In regards to the flights and accommodation I will attempt to cover all possibilities for Fri, Sat or Sun with my flights, so arrive Thursday, Fly home Monday, no reason why the club couldn't do this too

I don't think I understand your questions.

In terms of EPL I don't really follow any team.

I started following the Dees in 2016, as I have mentioned before I moved to Australia in 2015. I am now a member and definitely will be going to all our home games.

And if you're feeling lonely at the footy perhaps you could get involved in the game, chat away to your missus or even logon to the barrel-of-laughs game-day thread on 'land

Or hit the grog, have a few bets or bop along to the mindless high decibel music that we are subjected to these days (at the games)

Just don't get too hooked otherwise your head will be in the phone more than the game. Very easy to do! Although probably easier in the dark days haha.

In 92/93 I decided I go for Manchester United (Red Devils) because of Melbourne Demons -  with the demon/devil link.

During that time United have won the league (13 times), the league cup (4 times), the fa cup (5 times), the Champions League (2 times), the Europa League, Intercontinental Cup and the Club World Cup - in comparison the Demons have won 1 Flag and 1 AFLX trophy.

Around this time I started supporting Liverpool and from that exact moment onwards very much went in the opposite direction haha. Still won about 6 major trophies in the next 25 years and the last 5 years have been very happy so no complaints at all!

Round 21, 2017. Sunday, 1.10pm. We drew 53,115 to a home game vs St Kilda.

That was when both sides were pressing for finals. It was the game, IIRC, where we mocked St Kilda about us making finals instead of them. Then the following week we blew valuable percentage against Brisbane when led by 32 points 5 minutes into the last quarter, then conceded a stack of goals and only won by 13.

And then lost to Collingwood, thereby missing finals by the smallest percentage ever recorded.

Having mocked St Kilda about making finals three weeks prior.

Sigh. Those were the days.

I assumed I had a situation where if one club was doing well, the universe would balance this out by having the other do poorly. You've ruined my theory here .

    DISCO INFERNO by Whispering Jack

Two weeks ago, when the curtain came down on Melbourne’s game against the Brisbane Lions, the team trudged off the MCG looking tired and despondent at the end of a tough run of games played in quick succession. In the days that followed, the fans wanted answers about their team’s lamentable performance that night and foremost among their concerns was whether the loss was a one off result of fatigue or was it due to other factor(s) of far greater consequence.  As it turns out, the answer to

TIGERS PUNT CASEY by KC from Casey

The afternoon atmosphere at the Swinburne Centre was somewhat surreal as the game between Richmond VFL and the Casey Demons unfolded on what was really a normal work day for most Melburnians. The Yarra Park precinct marched to the rhythm of city life, the trains rolled by, pedestrians walked by with their dogs and the traffic on Punt Road and Brunton Avenue swirled past while inside the arena, a football battle ensued. And what a battle it was? The Tigers came in with a record of two wins f

It's Game Day and the Demons once again open the round of football with their annual clash against Richmond on ANZAC Eve. The Tigers, coached by former Dees champion and Premiership assistant coach Adem Yze have a plethora of stars missing due to injury but beware the wounded Tiger. The Dees will have to be switched on tonight. A win will keep them in the hunt for the Top 4 whilst a loss could see them fall out of the 8 for the first time since 2020.

There’s a touch of irony in the fact that Adem Yze played his first game for Melbourne in Round 13, 1995 against the club he now coaches. For that game, he wore the number 44 guernsey and got six touches in a game the team won by 11 points.  The man whose first name was often misspelled, soon changed to the number 13 and it turned out lucky for him. He became a highly revered Demon with a record of 271 games during which his presence was acknowledged by the fans with the chant of “Oozee” wh
