Posting unsubstantiated rumours on this website is strictly forbidden.

Demonland has made the difficult decision to not permit this platform to be used to discuss & debate the off-field issues relating to the Melbourne Football Club including matters currently being litigated between the Club & former Board members, board elections, the issue of illicit drugs in footy, the culture at the club & the personal issues & allegations against some of our players & officials ...

We do not take these issues & this decision lightly & of course we believe that these serious matters affecting the club we love & are so passionate about are worthy of discussion & debate & I wish we could provide a place where these matters can be discussed in a civil & respectful manner.

However these discussions unfortunately invariably devolve into areas that may be defamatory, libelous, spread unsubstantiated rumours & can effect the mental health of those involved. Even discussion & debate of known facts or media reports can lead to finger pointing, blame & personal attacks.

The repercussion is that these discussions can open this website, it’s owners & it’s users to legal action & may result in this website being forced to shutdown.

Our moderating team are all volunteers & cannot moderate the forum 24/7 & as a consequence problematic content that contravenes our rules & standards may go unnoticed for some time before it can be removed.

We reserve the right to delete posts that offend against our above policy & indeed, to ban posters who are repeat offenders or who breach our code of conduct.

WE HAVE BUILT A FANTASTIC ONLINE COMMUNITY AT DEMONLAND OVER THE PAST 23 YEARS & WE WOULD LIKE TO CONTINUE TO BE ABLE TO DISCUSS THE CLUB WE LOVE & ARE SO PASSIONATE ABOUT.

Thank you for your continued support & understanding. Go Dees.

No need to be so narky D11.  There have been lots of posts saying he is gone where the poster implies they have inside knowledge or use the word official loosely.    It's unreasonable to say 'officially' until it is announced by the club or player. And it is reasonable to ask anyone posting the basis for their statement. If by 'offically' you mean you have a reliable inside source that tells you it has happened, you should simply say so.

Can we say official now 😉

I think you’ll see us look to trade in a late first rounder, the plan being to then send that to WC for pick 2, satisfying the AFL’s requirement that they maintain a presence in the first round.

Maybe pick 2 & 20 for pick ~17.

Then pick 20 to pies for Grundy (not what I want, moreso a prediction)

That’s unders for sure. AFL seem very open to giving WC exemption to pick Luke and not have a first round pick this year.

If he really has said that either club is fine then, it still sucks, but I have a lot of respect for it.

Really this is how all go-home cases should be if they do honestly just want to be near family imho.

No Grundy FCS.  Have to assume he's damaged goods and can't play forward anyway.

Need a Tall KF play maker / contested mark inside 50 to replace BB whenever that's needed and support Macca/JVR foing forward

Thanks for the contribution, Luke.

I’d have been happy for him to stay but I’m not heartbroken that he is going. We won’t miss his contribution in the short term, and who knows what he will contribute elsewhere in the long term? There are no guarantees that he will be a star. Remember Weid’s great final series in 2018?

Out of interest, I checked Luke’s standing in our B&F for 2020 and 2021. In the former year he came 19th, one position behind Charlie Spargo. In the next year he came 12th, one position ahead of Spargo. Yes, I know… different ages, different positions, etc. But still, it’s interesting. I can’t see Jackson improving on 12th this year.

Disappointed that Luke Jackson is leaving the Demons.

I guess the longer it dragged on the more likely it was going to happen.

I was hopeful he would stay...but the pull of family and big money won out.

At least he helped us break our 57 year Premiership drought. Nobody can ever take that away from him.

Glad he just said a WA Club as that gives the Demons more bargaining power.

I would expect either 2 first round picks or a first round pick and a good player in return.

Let's now enjoy seeing Fremantle and West Coast fight it out to give the Melbourne Football Club the best trade deal for Luke Jackson.

Sad to see him go but can't hold it against him. Seems like a decent guy and he's an MFC premiership player which isn't a huge list in the scheme of things.

Hopefully he has genuinely said he wants to go to WA and not Freo so we can secure decent compo for him and not settle for two mid-1st round picks.

This scenario is very plausible so the AFL don't have to break their own rules to get a good trade done with West Coast. He's done us a favour nominating the state, not a specific club. This is how all trades should be done where go home is the reason. Free agency is when a player can nominate a specific club.

If the above scenario played out, I'd prefer we don't bring Grundy in and either take 20 to draft or use it on another type of player, similar to the Langdon deal. Would be good to draft Cadman as a KPF with pick 2, then trade in a classy player for the half forward flank to upgrade the Nibbler/Spargo type role players and make us more potent up forward.

West Coast can trade out of 1st round with special permission. Read somewhere today that there is a belief that AFL would tick that off fairly quickly in the event of a Jackson trade given his age/achievements.

Not holding it against him, think it's a bold move and not guaranteed to bring him success or happiness but that's the risk of life. Will be forever grateful for his contribution, he's a loss no doubt about it. We really just need to get the best deal possible and keep moving forward.

Been thinking.

Next year is a bumper crop and I wouldn't mind grabbing a future first rounder for next year.

Zane Duursma is a player I'd die for, younger brother of Xavier who has been dominating games as an under-ager.

He's likely to go top 5 though so we'd have to work some magic next year.

I just get the feeling that's the draft we should hit hard given the talent available in those first 10 picks.

We could really set ourselves up.

I hope Luke and his family are fully aware just how absolutely brutal the WA supporter base and media can be.

There is some genuine frustration and anger already from Freo supporters with the players that are being pushed out to fit this guy in alone.

It's going to take a while for Freo/WC supporters to warm up to him because of the high expectations they'll have on purely from how much draft capital they've had to give up.

Interesting.

How do you feel about Lever ? I'm sure you loved that he came to us.

And what do you know about Luke's situation. Nothing I imagine.

Supporters get way too caught up in emotionality about an individual they know nothing about.

“How do you feel about Lever ? I'm sure you loved that he came to us.”

And I’m sure Adelaide fans didn’t. The discussion here is not about how Freo/WCE supporters feel about getting Luke Jackson.

“And what do you know about Luke's situation. Nothing I imagine.”

Is that really a prerequisite for feeling disappointed? Are we expected to know the personal goings-on of all players before being allowed to feel let-down?

We pay our memberships, and the kids are paid untold amounts of money themselves, so we can skip the whole “getting to know you” process, and treat this for what is - mass entertainment.

“Supporters get way too caught up in emotionality about an individual they know nothing about.”

No, they do know about him. They know that he’s a guy we drafted three years ago, who we elevated to the heights of AFL glory and who collected a Rising Star for himself along the way, and now he wants to go home where he’ll get paid more than what we can afford, and that’s all they need to know in order to form an opinion about him. This is footy, not Oprah

It’s perfectly acceptable to be ticked-off that this guy is leaving, for the exact same reasons we were so jubilant that Trac and Clarry signed on for life. Club loyalty is a quality which has become more and more unique to our game, and I for one see this decision - after merely three years - undeserving of any kind of admiration.

Across the 215 pages (god help us) on this topic, there’s been a lot this “you don’t know his situation” lecturing towards people who dare suggest they’re unhappy about this. It’s not like anybody is planning to actually harass Luke Jackson or give him a piece of their mind beyond this forum. If I ever met the guy I’d express my gratitude for the ‘21 cup and happily leave it at that. But you’ve got to allow people express their frustration, disappointment and even anger (within reason) if the only reason not to is because “there might be something you don’t know”.

Information in this article update is consistent with what @Demon3has been stating re our compensation request.

UPDATE: Demons ruck requests trade to WA club - https://www.afl.com.au/news/842339

"But now the Demons will be locked in trade talks. If he chooses Fremantle the reigning premiers would be expected to target two first-round picks for Jackson, including a top-10 pick this year."

"The Dockers hold pick 13 in this year's draft, but could look to move up the draft board using other selections, with the club bracing for trade requests from Rory Lobb, Blake Acres and Darcy Tucker, with Griffin Logue also considering a move to Victoria."

"West Coast holds picks No.2, 20 and 26 this year but as AFL.com.au reported in May, would need AFL approval to trade its first pick under League rules. The AFL would be expected to tick that off given Jackson’s age and experience."

Maybe not now, but deals create outcomes.

As an example GWS have 3 and 21 and will get plenty more via Taranto and Hopper.

They may do a deal for 2 with 3 and another pick for example.

GWS will only do that to snare Cadman from right under our nose. Does sound like an MFC thing to do.

LEADERS OF THE PACK by The Oracle

I was asked to write a preview of this week’s Round 8 match between Melbourne and Geelong. The two clubs have a history that goes right back to the time when the game was starting to become an organised sport but it’s the present that makes the task of previewing this contest so interesting. Both clubs recently reached the pinnacle of the competition winning premiership flags in 2021 and 2022 respectively, but before the start of this season, many good judges felt their time had passed - n

Demonland Trackwatcher Kev Martin was on hand at Gosch's Paddock for Monday's training session and made the following observations. About 38 to 40  players down at training.  BBB walking laps.  Charlie Spargo still in rehab, doing short run throughs.  Christian Salem has full kit on and doing individual work with a trainer. He is is starting to get into some sprints. I cannot see Andy Moniz-Wakefield out there. Jack Viney and Kade Chandler have broken away from the

    DISCO INFERNO by Whispering Jack

Two weeks ago, when the curtain came down on Melbourne’s game against the Brisbane Lions, the team trudged off the MCG looking tired and despondent at the end of a tough run of games played in quick succession. In the days that followed, the fans wanted answers about their team’s lamentable performance that night and foremost among their concerns was whether the loss was a one off result of fatigue or was it due to other factor(s) of far greater consequence.  As it turns out, the answer to

TIGERS PUNT CASEY by KC from Casey

The afternoon atmosphere at the Swinburne Centre was somewhat surreal as the game between Richmond VFL and the Casey Demons unfolded on what was really a normal work day for most Melburnians. The Yarra Park precinct marched to the rhythm of city life, the trains rolled by, pedestrians walked by with their dogs and the traffic on Punt Road and Brunton Avenue swirled past while inside the arena, a football battle ensued. And what a battle it was? The Tigers came in with a record of two wins f
